Such a wide variety of categories and so many talented writers. Where do you get some of your ideas from?

usually I am struck by a scenario, and then take that a step farther by saying what if.

Once you start a story how long does it take to complete it? I find once you start a story i love it when they add chapters and we can continue following along.

I am writing my first right now and I have no idea how long it will take or if it will get published~ and they will hopefully stand alone as well as be chapters. My ideas have built up ober time, progressed and been part of my sexual fantasy-life. IF I was penning someone less like my real self, I am sure I could roll out many more raunchy tales of debauchery, but as it is I will have to hold true to myself and my style. I think mine will fall under different categories: Hardcore, Taboo, Supernatural, Fetish... and "others"~ (as my brain can be a very creative place). For inspiration and things I have to dig and be in that mood.

I have one story on here (Even Steven) that was inspired by a letter in a Dear Prudence column.

My mind. I like drama, so I write it. I don't write mindless and generic sex scenes like most people do because it's boring. Think about it. If those stories were put into a television show, wouldn't you being clawing your eyes out? It's like trying to watch True Blood... Makes me shutter. When you're bored, you might as well write something to interest you; maybe people will like it too.

For me, right now, it's things I want. Kinda like painting a picture of an alternate reality. There are other stories I have in mind of things I want to do or have done.

"Story" ideas come from my mind / imagination....EXCEPT as I might state otherwise in the story itself. "Poem" titles / topics are often a serendipity thing ... most likely a chance comment during a black box convers. or a big chat box convers. Sometimes it is something I've seen. My poem "Reflections..." was purely from the cover photo. Earlier poems were an expression of how I was feeling / thinking.

My characters are usually based upon people I know in real life that I find to have interesting personalities. Maybe they are part of a sexual fantasy and then I will write a story about it, expanding on the idea. As far as the sex, I just ask myself what I think would really turn me on to see the characters do.

I don't publish until a story is finished. How long it can take varies depending on the story. But I typically can write at about 1000 words an hr if things are going well. Sometimes it might be more like 3 words an hour Embarassed

It takes far far longer to edit than write. I write as it strikes me, quickly and committing my words to the story before it flees. Then I will edit paying close attention to continuity; does the sentence push the plot or character development? Building, showing my story vs telling it. Along the way consistently checking and correcting verb tense, punctuation, and other grammatical errors.

My last short story submitted (something borrowed, link in my signature) took me a week to prepare.

So far, the few stories I've penned for Lush draw heavily from facets of my life and personality. I think I may have to lose those crutches at some point in order to move forward as a writer!x

Talented writers? *shuffling inconspicuously into the room and trying to appear as if I belong*

naughtynurse hit the nail on the head with "what if?". That's exactly the question that tends to pop up in my head and gets the literary juices flowing. It used to be harder when I started writing and inspiration would sometimes take extended leaves, but like with most other things, practice makes it easier. The "what if?" questions tends to pop up a few times each hour, and sometimes the smallest things, just a name I read or an image I see, can set an interesting premise for a story. I've even taken to carrying one of those electric fly swats around, to fend off packs of overzealous plot bunnies.

As for chapter updates, I really try my best not to keep readers dangling for ages, but sometimes life interferes or my muses push me into another direction for a while. I used to feel guilty about that, but it's actually part of the learning experience as a writer to get feedback as I go, and it is also a part of Lush's charm to see other writers evolve while their story progresses.

Usually dreams from sleeping or my sick, twisted imagination when I'm in a situation or see a suitable candidate to base my characters off of.

I've always found a lot of good, well, interesting, story ideas on the restroom walls in select bus stations.

In idle moments, I think about sex a lot (go figure!) so I put it to good use and imagine scenarios, then I write out some bullet points and think on it some more. I try, really try to make it credible, that's a hard part.

Mostly from real life - people, places, conversations I've had. Ex-boyfriends, old relationships, casual encounters, friends, pulling from specific memories or moments and then getting creative with the way I recreate it for the purposes of story-telling.

There's usually an initial spark or concept and then I build around it... kind of like a sand-castle.

Ok. I said magic.

Which is mostly true.

As most of what i write, most of what I've ever written in fact (a majority of which has been of the non-erotica variety) comes purely from my mind. I also get inspiration from some of my favorite authors here, but more often from my favorite published, non-erotica authors.

Usually I get inspired from one scene that just pops into my head. Or a theme. Or a location. And I build everything else off that.

Imagination and desire. I come up with a scenario (like, say, having oral sex in a bakery) and then build some kind of story structure (plot, characters, etc.) around that. There may be snippets of life in it (the escort in my one story draws on some life experiences of mine) but mostly it comes from my imagination and from desires/fantasies that I have.

For me it's everyday life, reading, watching moives, talking to friends and other people, etc. etc.

I mainly write just for the pure joy of it.

My true stories are written purely from memory with as much factual dialogue as possible...

My works of fiction on the other hand are a whole other process... I almost never have a plot in my warped little mind when I begin a story. The vast majority of the time I let the characters develop on their own and let the plot take natural and organic twists and turns.
Which, in blind hindsight, is probably why most of my stories are so damn long... Most are over ten or twelve pages before I do a brutal edit to cut out some of the fluff and other non-essential words/paragraphs.

Flash a Trucker... It's appreciated!!
