Now they are thanking Van Gough for their kind words. I suppose this person will thank us all for our words.

This is very bizzare in my opinion.

But, all the work appears to be down. So that is a good thing.

I may be so happy I shall right a story.....hahhahahah

Okay, so I just left off a phone call with my attorney (his specialty is criminal law, but he's a close friend, so he's handled other matters for me and I keep him on retainer) and here is what he had to say, more or less: It's like trying to put out a million tiny fires. Unless and until someone publishes your work under his or her own name in any profitable format, preferably in a physical entity format (a book, as opposed to an ebook) there's really no legal recourse except the DMCA. I'm kind of at the "fuck it" point now; he's going to talk to a friend who is a copyright attorney, but until I hear back from my own attorney, I'm not going to do anything.dontknow

I'm with you on this. Yes, it irks me that my stories and audios have been stolen.

I used to care a whole lot more, but you know what? Each time we go after one site, another one will pop up and do the same thing. It is a never ending cycle. When you post ANYTHING online, you're risking the chance of it being stolen. Be it photos, stories, art work, music, whatever the case may be. That is just, sadly, how the internet works. Sure, you can chase them down, but as I said, more sites will pop up and keep it going. If you want to spend your days chasing them down, more power to you. But, me? I really can't be arsed.

Best of luck to those who do, though.

This

I've had mine stolen repeatedly, and yes I email them. But has been pointed out, its like weeding. they always come back, and then I've spent hours of my time for what? Possibly this is why I am a terrible gardener.

I'm very glad for the care Lush verifiers put into ensuring that those who post here are posting original work. I'm even more glad that Gav puts as much work as he does into attempting to maintain the security of the site. But as long as I have even one pirated download(book, song, or movie) on my hard drive, I have no reason to complain. Embarassed

I was having a PM conversation with a friend about this and I thought I would share my feelings on the subject...

The way I see it, when I write a story and publish it in the public domain, then it's no longer mine - it becomes public property in some way - people will read it and do what they do. If there's an audio version, they can save that to listen to over and over.

I find writing cathartic, for me, it's more about getting the stuff out - once I've done that, it's served its useful purpose, it's easy to forget about it and while I like the feedback and so forth that I get here on Lush, in the grand scheme of things, if other people pinch it and read it elsewhere what does it matter? Okay, I may not get the personal credit I deserve, but at least they read what I wrote and hopefully enjoyed it?

The other thing is that, in the past, I would follow up on these websites, ask them to remove my work and sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't but no matter how often I would do this, more sites would pop up and do the same - it was like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic, kind of pointless and the results aren't really worthwhile enough to merit either my time or my emotional investment...

I guess this must be how musicians and bands feel when people download their music without paying? Or when people share stuff on FB without crediting the original poster or person who made/wrote it...

As for stopping writing and contributing? Well, I don't get paid for it, it's not like they're stealing from my purse. I just do it because I want to, it's a hobby. I'll keep writing here because it does me good and also because people seem to enjoy what I post - if they enjoy it somewhere else without my say so, well, that does suck a bit, but at least they're still reading it... The only person I'd be punishing by not writing would be myself.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

What a great way to say everything I wanted to :D Big Hugs

Oh, motherfucker! I checked, and saw some my i____t stories on there. I saw some of Sweetestsins stuff, and a story from the ever so clever, and nice MadameMolly too. This is a crock of shit.

Feel free to check out any of my stories. I have a few poems too.

Nice. Whatever. They can't write their own quality erotica, so they have to steal it. How classy. And to those from that site reading this now, if you had any balls, you'd POST your address. You don't, so you won't.

About half of my stories have been stolen at one point or another, but I just find it so hard to care. And I know it's me that's the unusual one here—you guys are all absolutely right to be pissed off and to go hunting down these assholes.

*shrugs*

Best of luck to you all.

I am with clum on this one. I am sorry for all of you who have had stories stolen and I understand your frustration - you have every right in the world to be pissed. However I have learned (the hard way) to pick my battles and this is just not one of them.
First off, I am not in the habit of getting into fights I can't possibly win. Even if we bombard these sites and get them closed down, another will pop up like tissues in a Kleenex box as soon as we do. This is like our troublemakers on Lush - they disappear in one place only to pop up somewhere else under a new name. In addition, since some of these sites are in foreign countries, there isn't a whole lot that can be done to pressure them into compliance anyway.
Next, I have not been shy in telling you all that I write my stories for me first of all. My writing is therapeutic for me - it helps me express the dreams, fantasies and feelings that otherwise would drive me out of my flipping mind. So writing, whether accepted or not, whether stolen or not, helps me. The fact that others like my stories is icing on the cake. And the fact that someone would go to the trouble of stealing my story is in a twisted way a compliment!
Is it right - no. Should these people be punished for their crime - sure. But if everyone was called on every thing they did wrong in this world, the Internet would be a far different and far lonelier place!

Actually, J... In this case, the perp did listen to our collective voices and not only took down the stories AND site, but she apologised to each of us there and responded to my personal email...

So, we DID make a difference... this time!

Sorry I don't have time to do more. I used to, until it thoroughly depressed me as to how rife it is, and impossible to contain.

Even I, Techno-Retard (Thanks Gav!) as I am, realize that ANYTHING you post ANYWHERE on the Interwebnet-thingy can be re-posted, plagiarized, stolen...

PERSONALLY, I write SOLELY for Lush Stories, for a site I know and trust, for people I respect... (I don't even write for the Blue Site, in fact...) What I CAN'T and DON'T expect is that my stuff here is protected from thieves from other sites, be they site owners seeking to up-grade their content or individuals seeking to pass off my work as their own... Put quite simply there is FUCK ALL I or anyone can do about that...

Two things occurr...

These other sites look like A PILE OF SHIT compared to the site we are all a part of here. They are FLOODED with base advertizing, (I am REASONABLY certain that 'girls in my area' are not begging for my cock...) have no editorial control and moreover if they had the talent WE have they wouldn't really need to go a-stealing...

Also, I don't write upon Lush Stories to make money... I have never published so much as an Ebook... HOWEVER... IF IT COMES TO MY ATTENTION that any INDIVIDUAL is attempting to make MONEY off my work then I will see the motherfucker in court since I can PROVE that what I write is mine and mine alone. (This extends to Intellectual Copywright in terms of Character and plot...) A background in the music business, and (to a MUCH lesser extent) the movie business, has taught me that a threatened law-suit tends to 'cur beaginin smacht ar' (In English, "Put a bit of fucking fear/respect into") people who are fucking me around...

I make a formal complaint simply to ensure that I'm covered in the event money is ever made of my work (not at all likely, but one can always hope)

This way, I am on record as demanding they don't use it. My experience is though that it does little good. Usually, my name is still attached, so if I'm credited, I really don't care. Even if I'm not, well, at least people are reading it.

That's why I write it, so what the hell.

Surely silence can sometimes be the most eloquent of replies

I received a PM this morning alerting me to all of this. It upset me because I honestly feel that, at the very least, they could leave the name of the writer on the story or poem. As my mother says, there is no honor amongst thieves. I went through hell and back to get a contact email. I'm not good at that kind of thing at all. I should have known to contact Sprite. I sent several emails and tried to get several comments attached to my stolen work. DancingDoll, you are the best. I did not have the faintest idea of what to write. If I had that shell earlier... It's all very stressful and I've been at the hospital with my mom most of the day.

But, then I ran across this thread...

I'm so proud to be a member of this community. You guys are absolutely great. Possibly (thank you for the PM sweetie), Sprite, DancingDoll and all of you who went into action as soon as this thread went up. It is like having a team on your side. It's really what makes this community special. You will not find that on other sites.

Yeah I know, I'm all super sensitive today. But, I just wanted to say that.

This exactly why one should NOT be complacent with things such as copyright material and ownership.

With people spending the hours as we did in addressing our rights, good things happened.

You won't ever see me being grateful that "at least people are reading my work" when I have not given permission to use my work and some pirates have snatched my work. I think the results are well-worth the four plus hours addressing my stolen work to three sites.

To all those who don't care and those that did e-mail the offenders ... at least two sites no longer have your work (or mine) .... and that is something to be grateful for.

As has been explained on countless occasions, if YOU can read a web page, it can be scraped programmatically.

Gav could write a program to extract the HTML of any website in 5 minutes, no matter what measures have been put in place.

Even if we made lush a pay site, someone could join up for a month, and use that login for their program to gain entry.

Name me ONE web site where you can't view their HTML, please, humour me.

You can get into a never ending battle of frustration when you start fighting these fly-by-night bulk copying operations. Most of the time the person running the site is unresponsive, because they know damn good and well they're stealing the content. The people hosting the place are typically unresponsive because they're usually in a country where nothing much can be done to them, and they're getting paid. The registrars don't care because they're only responsible for the domain name.

Even if you do get them taken down, they'll probably be back tomorrow at a different URL run by the same jackass.

You have to learn to accept that once you post something for free on the internet, you've more or less given away your right to control it. There's little to nothing you can do to stop people from copying it and putting it wherever they please.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be pissed off, or that the catharsis of trying to whack a mole or two and having some success isn't worth it, but keep the reality in the back of your mind so it doesn't become an obsession.

Very well said.

Lushstories is by far the best erotica site on the internet and that's probably why it's been targeted. I don't think it's possible to totally protect a site from someone stealing content. Look at the huge retail companies that constantly get hacked and think of how much money they spend on security. Even the Pentagon got hacked by the Chinese. I only blame those cheesy websites that stole stories here for being thieves.
