I think the meaning of life is to just be, to move with whatever moves in you.

The meaning of life is the knowing of yourself. if you can know yourself, you understand why you live. before born and after death, and time between born and death, they make life meaningful.

another answer for this question, the meaning of love is to love and to be loved

Why is it that we search for the meaning of life?
Life evolved on this planet; Earth, about 3.6 billion years ago because of conducive environment and merger of molecules of carbon and Hydrogen.
Life started of its own; without a creator. When we search for the meaning of life, we in fact search for the WILL OF A CREATOR.
Life is to protect itself, procreate and enjoy, thereby evolving better prospects for the future life.
We must understand that LIFE DOES NOT MEAN SIMPLY HUMAN LIFE.
Life includes all forms of life and therefore it is imperative to create cleaner environment for LIFE arround us and for our posterity.

The meaning of life, the purpose of life, the value of life are all based on the human notions of meaning, purpose and value. It is a trait of our primitive, human, pattern-seeking intelligence to seek for meaning where there is none, to look for purpose where there is none and to imbue value where there is none. Life has no meaning, no purpose nor value - in a billion years or (probably) earlier life on this planet will have been extinguished and the indifferent Universe will carry on for many more billions of years on its way towards it's own death. There's no meaning, no purpose nor value in that either - it just is.

Relationships are another thing entirely. Every person is at the centre of their own web of relationships and others who are closest to the centre of that web are treated with a higher apparent value than those further away. 'Further away' is meant in terms of connectivity, geography and time; most people don't care about strangers who may have suffered in another country a long time ago but they grieve when that suffering is applied to their Mothers or Sons. Relationships don't imply an absolute value to life (which, on a Universal scale, is worthless) but only a relative value. Strong emotional relationships make life appear to be worth living...

MajPaddy;
Could not agree more. You hit the nail on its head. Absolutely 100% correct. Much better expression then mine or others having similar thoughts.
Strong emotional relationships make life appear to be worth living...
A real mature thinking and expression.
Fully endorse you. But do wish and aspire that people also feel, if not as strongly at least somewhat, when some bad news appears in any part of the world.... to any human being or beings.
It is more then 15 years that the Hotoos and Tutsi (I may be wrong in spelling) tribes fought in Central Africa and over 800,000 lives were lost in just a matter of 15 days or so.
I still feel it is a scar on the consciousness of the knowing politicians who knew and did not react at the appropriate time to save those almost 1 million lives.
Similarly, the Sudanese fought and killed over 300,000 South Sudan population and no one came to save them in time.
These and many others are permanent scars over the consiousness of Humanity at Large and specially the United Nations.

nazhinaz: Thanks for the comments - much appreciated.

I think sorrow at the suffering of others comes from the ability of humanity to put themselves in other people's shoes and imagine their horror. One can't get away from the fact that life is cheap and is and has been treated as such throughout history. In modern society we rely on the thin veil of civilisation to get us through the day without having to always look over our shoulders for potential threats to our life but, in the recent past and in some parts of today, some lives don't even have that privilege; there are sad reminders everywhere.

The meaning of life? It is the experiences we happen through during our journey we embarked on the day we were born. The choices we make, good or bad, build our experiences and how we precive the next adventure in our journey. The ultimate goal (to some) is to feel true joy. Happiness and joy are not the same although happiness can lead to joy.

I've been trying to figure that one out myself there Right Rev...actually, more specifically, been trying to find out if there is intelligent life after birth...

Which reminds me, I need to head over to your fine quality drinking establishment for some refreshment...not sure it will aid in my search for intelligent life, but it can't really hurt...

Btw Reverend...any drink specials in honor of this here contest I been hearing about on Lush?

I guess I'll find out when I get over there...

meaning of life? i think it is being happy in what you do, and being surrounded by people who love you for you and nothing less. I think life is about being happy and enjoying getting up to go to work every morning, or even having that will to get out of bed. Life is all about heartbreak and we all say love fucks us all over, which is so true, BUT its those heartaches that allows us to become smarter and more wise, and find someone that you will love unconditionally with no reason to question.

Don't life your life being scared, its a waste or time. You need to live wild and free like there is no tomorrow, and learn to conquer those fears to learn to grow in life.

I think much time is wasted looking for meaning. We are all part of a big complex web in which lots of shit happens; most of if mundane and forgettable and some of it beautiful and memorable... things and people evolve... they grow, they learn, they die with or without "contribution". Generations after we're all dead --- was there any meaning? I say live life well; help others grow and learn; enjoy the diversity of the world; laugh often and don't bother looking for deep meaning...

Meaning of life?
Why ponder the meaning of life, just live it and be happy as possible, love with your all, give all you can,
be who you want to be and never forget the people who helped you on your way. Don't be a stranger,
always be remembered for how lovely you are.

The meaning of life is to do the best you can with what you have been given in life, take that how you will.

I find there can be no text book answer to this all important question. Life is what you make out of it really.

There really is no meaning to life. Sometimes I think there is but there really isn't. I guess it all depends on how you look at it though.

If you think life on the earth is an accident then there is no actual meaning. There can't be. You just are. Or you can say you were born to die to make room for more humans that will eventually overrun the planet. You can eventually conclude that the meaning to your life is to destroy the planet...but why? With this path of thoughts life really has no meaning.

If you believe that something created us, then yes, life must have a meaning. But what is it? To worship what created us? If that is the case why did this being create such doubt in us too? To watch our confusion like some kind of sick and twisted TV show? He created love and pain, but why? Eventually all love will end in pain. Someone will die, someone will fall out of love, Someone will use someone that loves them etc. You can say that he created all these things in us so we can find our own way and hopefully chose a path of good so we can go to heaven and have everything we want... With this thought process the meaning to life is try to be good so when you die you can be as selfish and greedy as you want in your own heaven? Seems like bullshit to me too.

So what is left? There probably is no "meaning". Just the very real fact that we are alive and we have these brains that ask these questions.

At my most negative I can tell myself that we are all going to die so nothing we do really matters to anyone beyond a few simple chemicals in their brain telling them to have a reaction to your actions. Yes, we can invent something or leave a legacy. Like Einstein, Salk, Washington, Beethoven, Shakespeare etc.. But who really cares? How many of you think about the greatest people to have ever lived for more than a couple seconds if you see something about them on TV or something? Probably not many of you. At my most negative I can say all Salk did was make more people able to live.. But for what, so other people can be happy they didn't die yet?

I mean, does your fucking turkey sandwich have a meaning? Maybe, I guess it's meaning is for you to eat it and shit it out so you can live a little longer... But eventually the planet will eat YOU and shit you out too. Eventually the sun will eat our solar system and there will be no trace of the human race left. We haven't figured out if anything can eat the black hole that will be left over once the sun dies... But something probably does.

So what is the meaning... Sometimes I can make it make sense in my head that the meaning to life is to die...

It's strange to be anything really. Conscienceness is strange. Having these questions is strange.

Maybe the meaning to life is not thinking about shit and trying to have fun or reduce suffering for yourself and people who for some strange reason you care about. I guess that is an easier answer and line of thought. Still seems like just agreeing that 2+2=5 to just not bother with what the real meaning might be.

The meaning of life is simple, and can be summed up in one simple word... BooBs. hahaha, and if that isn't enough, well... just having fun and enjoying yourself.

Life is what YOU make of it. It doesn't matter what other people think, whether they're atheists or christinas or whatever. It's what you think and are happy with.
