Precious Things

I had her name traced above my heart
Cupped my belly, feeling the spark
Within, I felt the beat of life, the echo of her cry
Her breath a butterfly
Brushing the cobwebs from the grave with her wing
Oh you precious thing

And she, oh she had his name tattooed on her wrist
Delicate letters, a secret script
A reminder of what is precious, and what is not
And hearing that, I smiled and thought
Of all the songs he used to sing
Oh this precious thing

I remember one song, such a simple little rhyme
How does it go? Once upon a time…
There was a child, a light
Burning wild, burning bright
Gunfire erupted in the night
Where are you now, Reverend King?
Good bye, you precious thing

Love not hate.

Rachel <3

You have a big heart and precious soul. Your words transcend.
You couldn't have expressed it better.

BEAUTIFUL, and I'm sure they feel the love.

Powerful.

Wonderfully done, Sprite. It can be brutally hard, trying to make sense of it all in what often seems like a senseless world...

Thank the Fates that there are good souls like you out there making the effort, inspiring the rest of us to do the same.

I've read this Lord knows how many times now and every time it still has the same impact. Not much can make me cry, but this just gets me. Once again, thank you for this beautiful poem.

Reaching for tissues...

This was just the sweetest and most beautiful thing I've ever read. Something really worth saving and committing to memory.

Truly a precious kind of gift.

Thank you. XO

I do enjoy the rhythm of your poetic flow.
Thanks for sharing this piece.

Even a man can know this when his woman has lost one on the way. Or he was in the Civil Rights movement many years ago. I loved this profoundly. You really are a very special lady Sprite.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. [President Abraham Lincoln]

I crave so much more than a physical connection. I crave your words and depth. I crave who you are and where you came from, your desires and fears. I yearn to know every inch of you beyond the surface.

Lady Astor to Churchill: "Winston, if you were my husband I would flavour your coffee with poison." Churchill: "Madame, if I were your husband, I should drink it."
