Sunday -- The Colourful City

The hectic city embraces me,
Frantic people surround me,
Crazy children are all over me.
Adults wear their best clothes,
Children exhibit their worst behaviour.

The city is fast paced, and too noisy for my taste.
I am jostled about as I day dream
of how wonderful it would be to walk around an empty city,
To enjoy the powerful music of the city’s silence
in the early morning is a beautiful experience.

I wonder as I walk: why I am part of this hectic city?
I long for empty streets early on a Sunday morning,
And wish I could at least hear my thoughts.

The hectic city is too much for me,
It is even too much for the City itself.

People behave badly, trying to hide it from the crowd,
Or they don’t try to hide it at all.
Children are on their worst behaviour,
Because they don’t know any better.
And me, in the middle of the crowd,
Try to figure out what I am doing there,
While I yearn to feel the soothing power of a peaceful Sunday morning.

That was wonderful, She!

And I can definitely relate to everything that you spoke of.

I went for a walk at dawn on New Years Day in my city and I was shocked at how beautiful the silence was. And somehow eerie as well... you aren't used to being alone with your thoughts when living in the city.

Great poem... thoughtful and eloquently expressed!

Thank you all for your nice words, I appreciate them, but you have to know that (and I am not trying to devalue myself) poems without Gypsy's touch wouldn't sound like that. She trully is amazing!

I completely understand your feelings! I remember, it was few years ago in capital city, Sunday morning, emty city, very quiet, not even the sound of birs, just city, sun and I. Walking through empty streets, I heard street performer playing on his accordion some French chanson.. The power at that point I felt it, I cannot describe.
