You'll have to make sure you write on EVERYONE's profile just so no one feels like they're missing out ;)

And come on - be honest - I bet you've had good nose around to see what your friends are saying on other profiles hahahah!

Are you referring to my inquisitive nature Over ??

That may well be the case, but I don't need a 'who's who, and what's what' on my activity list to do it. It just means scrolling through lots of bumpf to pick up on the odd frind's forum posting that may be worth reading.

I only just noticed I lost 20 votes on my bagoween story. The rest are the same as before dontknow

UPDATE: Not even 8 hours later after I posted this, I lost another 15 votes on my first story :(

There is a reason for this. The old version of Lush recorded anonymous votes by recording a timestamp and an ip address, but not the actual score. When a score becomes stale (after a new vote), then the system needs to rebuild the story statistics. Unfortunatly the anon votes from v1 wont be counted as they have a zero score.

Make sense dontknow

Makes sense, not happy as I didn't have big amounts of votes to begin with LOL, but I understand - just!

Does this mean that the no comments on all votes is now in place? I ask only because of the above and because I have noticed new stories lately with scores or 2 or 3 without the "Scored with a 2 because...." comment

Also noticed that when I filled out my location, it doesn't show up in the forums.

It makes technical sense but you will probably understand that it's still disappointing. I understand from your description, that you couldn't do anything about it even if you wanted to. I'm sure we both have more important things to get on with.

Good job by the way (apart from the obvious of course).

I'm having some trouble seeing that some of my friends are online. Is there a "stealth" feature I don't know about, or is this a bug?

I understand, I'm sorry. Without allocating a random score for all the anon votes, I was stuck. Really dont know why the old system never recorded the score angry7

A comment is no longer required for a 2-3 vote (as per a thread a while back). You sill need to be a member though.

I'll get a fix for the location.

Thanks for your patience Miss F.

Still need to be a member for what, if you don't mind me asking?

I still see the option for "Members only can vote on my stories"...

Actually after reading this, I believe there should be a little clarification (if I may LM)

What I think he is referring to is I can see what all of my friends are doing on my profile. Yes it's the usual stuff like commenting and scoring stories, however it now tells you that "X user" has posted a comment on "Y users" picture. Previously that was not a part of the information stream.

Hope that makes sense. For what it's worth this is amazing, so much faster!! Great job again guys thank you so much!

The details of my friends comments/posting wall pics, etc on their friends walls are things I do not need to know and my area is looking like .... well ..... that only 2 people do that alll day long and alllll night long. I rather just know who has updated their status and wrote/scored a story or published their own stories.

thanks

Agree.

If you want to give a story a 1, 2 or a 3, you have to be a member to do so. That makes people accountable, and will stop the anonymous manipulators...

Btw, that last issue I mentioned seems to be unique to Lush, and not over at the other upgraded site...just doing a bit of checking...

Ooops, ignore that last post...apparently it is a problem on the other site as well...I just tried putting the same thing in my status over there as I did here and it came out in code...

It might have something to do with the fact that my status her includes a URL...maybe?

The last status was just regular type words, and that seemed to work fine...

Actually, I haven't a clue...dontknow

And, of course, I'm deleting them...and they're still showing up...as code...

I think you may have misunderstood. The information doesn't exist. It can't be restored. It's not that Gav hasn't or won't do it, it's not possible.

The information existed in v1 as - a number of member votes with scores, a number of anonymous votes with no scores, a temporary total and a temporary average score.

The anonymous votes have disappeared in the transfer because they had no scores attached. When you get a new vote, the temporary total and scores are recalculated from the remaining data, which only includes member votes from before the switch and any votes after the switch.

I'm sure Gav will put me right if I'm explaining this wrong.

Sorry everyone. I've lost votes too, but they are gone.

I believe you that the votes cannot be retrieved and restored but the votes had to include scores (each vote only registers at 1 to 5) because the loss off votes changed the scores in some cases quite a lot.

Nothing can be done but it is still a very bad bummer!

That I can't answer. Maybe Gav can shed some light as to how it worked out the average with no scores in the database, lol. I'm voting for magic.

Bummer indeed.

Maybe Gav will have an idea of how to protect our stories that yet have not had their votes decimated.

I was going to post some pictures in the Forum but there was no image icon link showing on my Forum today. It was there before.

MOW, you have a in-depth understanding of the code, fancy a job?

So Lush V1 recorded the scores real-time, simple accumulating a tally of 1 - 5. The recording of anonymous votes was simply a way to block the same surfer from scoring a story multiple times. This worked fine in the relational database world.

In Lush V2, we now have a document storage model (not an RDBMS). The member and anonymous votes are stored in a document along with all the other attributes of a story (think of a spreadsheet containing all the fields to a story). When a new score is recorded, it would be too costly to pull back the entire document, add one vote then save this back to the database. So, instead, I simply send the score to the database to append the score to the existing document. I then flag this story as stale (the score needs recalculating). So the next time the story is retrieved from the database, it will recalculate the score before presenting the story to the user.

I'm sorry about this, there is no way for me to recreate these anonymous scores from V1. Would people prefer to leave this as-is, or for me to generate a random score, 1-5 for these missing votes?

Or was that a sarcastic dig to stop trying to explain what I don't understand Embarassed

Thanks for explaining it MoW, even I can understand what happened now.

It's very unfortunate, but those anonymous votes have all been lost. They are irretrievable. It is the same for everyone.

Gav - I take it you were joking. You can't assign a 4 or a 5 to all the missing votes! lol

OK, first off...I admit I'm not always the sharpest shed around the tool, and I'll never be a rocket surgeon...but, for the life of me, I cannot comprehend how a vote cannot have a score attached to it...that is something I don't think I'll ever comprehend, and I'm not going to try to strain my few remaining brain cells to try to figure that one out...

From what I gather from this whole conversation here is that a lot of people have lost a bunch of votes that were non-member anonymous type votes...I have to admit, because of the number of stories I have which is somewhat more than a big bunch, combined with my limited mental capacity, I really don't have much in the way of a clue as to the actual number of votes on most of my stories...I do however have a fairly general idea of my overall average on this site and the other fine English language sister site...

For instance, I have a poem over on Sister Stories with over 100 votes...that seems to be unchanged from what I can see...I happen to know for a factoid that most of those votes could not be by members, since it would mean that about a third of the total members would have voted on that one poem...not possible, take my word on that one...

From the looks of things, it would seem that all those votes are still there...last check it had 117 votes...I think it went up at least one since the big V2 upgrade...

Basically, what I be looking to figure out here...did I come out unscathed out of this mess? Or, is there some big surprise yet to come for me?

Or, did a third of the members of Sisters Space actually vote on my poem?

I'm just trying to get a clue as to what is going on...might be first, go easy on me here...Regaeman Man

They will all be member votes Alan, plus votes from surfers over the last fortnight or so you guys have been running on Mongo.

Gav has categorically stated that all anon votes have gone. It is a common code base used for all 3 sites, everything is programmed the same.
