Here's the Media I'm used to seeing for the last 30 years!

BBC Uses a stolen 2003 photograph from Iraq to incite the flames towards war with Syria.

A BBC spokesman says the picture, illustrating Sunday night’s story “Syria Massacre in Houla Condemned as Outrage Grows,” was taken down “immediately” when the source was identified.

“We were aware of this image being widely circulated on the internet in the early hours of this morning following the most recent atrocities in Syria. We used it with a clear disclaimer saying it could not be independently verified,” he added.

These words about information “which cannot be independently verified” have become a trademark of media coverage of the 14-month conflict in Syria.

It looks that the mantra “cannot be independently verified” serves as a disclaimer to publish information which wouldn’t stand a chance of ever being verified.

I can think of many other examples I've seen in newspapers around the world since 1979, how many can you remember? List 'em here.

Here's one I remember, which pissed off everyone who heard our US President proclaim this at the time... On CNN

Hell, this comment alone probably caused 100,000 men and women to enlist in the US Armed Forces the next week.

The news media, the corporate news media that is, has become more and more a tool of the governing elite. The government is pretty good at using the media to advance their agenda even without the help of the press, but when the press and the government have the same agenda it's even worse. What the press in the USA does best these days is advance the agenda of the very wealthy. Maybe it's because the major media is owned by the very wealthy. We are given the illusion of a free press and a free electoral process, but it really is only an illusion.

Is the WMD debacle in Iraq too obvious of an example?
