Home-made steak and kidney pie - (even made the pastry myself.) Followed by home grown rhubarb crumble.

It's rained all weekend, and I can think of no nicer way to while away a few happy hours than tinkering around in the kitchen. (Well, maybe I can think of 1 or 2 but I'm tryng to be clean, afterall it is Sunday !)

I smoked a pork shoulder, about 7 hours to bring it all the way to 185f, just right for pulled pork sandwiches. Carved a few slices, added some bbq sauce and had Texas chili beans, fried corn with jalapeños for the side.... Had a good work mate over and we tossed down a few and relaxed.
I will not claim it was healthy, but it sure was delicious.

Tonight a sirloin roast on the spit with garlic mashed potatoes and kale sauteed with onions and mushrooms.

Wine will be a 2006 Cabernet blend from California

Well today being a special ocassion I will buy a really good steak (Organic and 28 day matured) and have chips etc. with it. I also have a really good half bottle of Chablis which I will drink whilst cooking and a half bottle of again really good Fleurie to have with the steak.

Last night at home (with several friends over) grilled ribeyes, marinated in soy sauce and red wine and garlic, grilled with pineapples on top, barbecue-brown sugar baked beans, and grilled 'cracklin' corn-on-the-cob. We had choice of wines or ice cold long neck bottled beers.

For dessert oven heated blondies with melted caramel and vanilla ice cream on top.
