So there's an male archetype out there that many, maybe most, hell, maybe all woman love: the guy who is wearing an expensive suit, and wearing it well, every hair in place, perfectly knotted tie, expensive cufflinks, yadayadayada. Are there any women here who do not find that attractive? Anyone into, say, the t shirt and flannel working man? The bespectacled academic surrounded by books and papers? The rumpled, dreamy romantic? I can pull off a suit reasonably well, but am definitely not the impeccably dressed and coiffed kind of guy. Like, at all.

I met a woman once that didn't find it attractive. When I mentioned my thing with suits she said that for her it was the opposite. She liked good, nice clothes, but not suits. I think she was around men in suits in a regular basis and for her it was just a work thing. In any case, did nothing for her.
But being into one of these types doesn't mean you can't feel attracted to the other.
Since I was very young I liked suits. Now that I work in a "big corporation yadayadayada" environment, it's not only the suit but the "thrill of power" thingy.
But, as I think I mentioned some time ago in some other thread, I also love men who work with their hands and build and/or fix stuff. I think your "t shirt and flannel working man" fits there.
Academics surrounded by books and papers? Hell yes. I'm thinking nice woollen sweaters.
Dreamy romantic? Ten years ago yes, now I don't really think so. I'm into practical men.
I think the most important part is the "wearing it well", whatever it is. Feeling comfortable and confident in your clothes (and your skin).
And, by the way, I could ask the same. Stockings, heels, all that expensive and sophisticated stuff... nobody into jeans, yoga pants, Tshirts and Converse? :P
Impeccably dressed doesn't do a thing for me. I grew up a tomboy on a farm in rural Ohio, riding horses and wearing jeans. Now I run a company that manages investment properties for a bunch of millionaires, and I know what kind of assholes they usually are. I grew up around wealth and it doesn't impress me. Neither do men with power. I'm much more drawn to ordinary guys who are honest and down-to-earth. They're not phonies, and they don't take girls like me for granted.
This particular woman isn't turned on just by a suit and impeccable hair....it's what's beneath the suit and inside the skull to which the hair is rooted that turns her on.

There's nothing quite like a well-dressed man with personality and character that matches his exterior. A foul attitude and a nasty disposition can make an expensive suit look really cheap and unattractive. On the flip side, a positive attitude can make a tattered pair of jeans fly.
It's about the character, personality, intelligence, and attitude - not the clothes.
As many have said already, its the man inside the clothes who is the real determining factor for me. Beyond that however, the immaculate suit will definitely get my attention. It's an archetype. The powerful man, the working man, the academic, the artist, these all make good fantasy fodder. Men have their own fantasy archetypes, the librarian, the free spirit, the girl next door, the bad girl...
I have to agree with everyone here. Yes a guy can look incredible in a suit but a suit doesn't necessarily make me attracted to him. And some guys you definitely wouldn't want in a suit. Think James Dean or Indiana Jones, etc. You want those guys looking hot and scruffy but definitely not wearing a suit.
What about librarians who are bad girls? You know, hair in a bun, glasses, tight white stretch button down shirt, mid thigh pencil skirt, stilettos, looking at you over her glasses while chewing on the eraser end of a pencil (because librarians NEVER use pens ).
I swear, if I could be anything at all, it would be that. So much hiding under such an unassuming exterior.

I do love a man in a suit, but I grew up in the country so my type generally runs toward the jeans and t-shirt kind of men. A man that is good with his hands.
Now if you give me an intelligent (nerdy) man that is also good with his hands, I'm in heaven. Throughout high school I was in love with my Science teacher. He was a jeans and Converse man.
I still sigh when I say his name, mmm, Mr. Thornton.

My guy is a modern urban style guy, so while I do like the suit, I much prefer the stylish city dweller. He may indeed work in the corporate world of suits and power, but when he's himself it's something casually fly. A man in dressed neatly and wears glasses... yummy!
Like the other ladies say its all about the person behind the clothes. But if we are concentrating on outward appearances, the be-suited corporate look does nothing for me. I've always been more attracted to guys who dress casually, and then on a special occasion look fab in proper formal wear. The contrast in style is fun and very sexy!!
That is really visually appealing but it's the person behind the clothes like the others stated.
I concentrate on faces and eyes more than anything.
Sure I would be attracted to a man such as you described. The flannel and blue jeans guy would have just as much of a chance or the fireman or....the list could go on and on and on. I am not attracted to one type of man. What does attract me is a confident man. This is probably the quality I find most attractive in a partner.

Not attracted to one specific look. And it all depends on the guy. A nice suit , jeans and a tshirt, guys with tattoos, sporty guys. All works it just depends on the guy and if there is attraction. And you could be incredibly hot but you have to have the personality and connection to make anything look attractive.
I don't mind a man in a suit, but it really isn't my thing.
If anything, for "dressed well" I like a man in black slacks and a white button up shirt.
But, I rather my man in comfortable Levis, or better yet, Carhartt jeans, yum! The ones that fit the bum real nice, with a nice shirt.
I like my man to look clean, but comfortable, not all suited up, with every hair in place. No thanks. I'm too relaxed for all that nonsense.
I find suit and tie guys attractive if it's all part of their sex appeal awareness - in porn and erotica.
I don't really have that same response to them in real life because usually they're working stiffs and not the fun kind. My husband's an Average Joe.
I have to wear a suit and tie to work, so I like that to be impeccable, tailored and the cuff links, etc., but you'll never catch me with every hair in place. That ain't me. And as soon as I get home, its cargo pants, jeans or shorts, sneakers or cowboy boots, t-shirts, baseball cap or cowboy hat OR motorcycle gear.
If it is a quality person of good character it doesn't matter what they wear.
what's the saying? a man in a suit is like lingerie for women? i for one LOVE seeing a well dressed man. however, i also like seeing men in pajama bottoms just getting out of bed, in sweats and a t shirt after playing ball, khakis and a polo at a bbq... i think you catch my drift. there isn't one particular outfit that does it for me.
It's not the clothes you are wearing, yet the personality and intelligence beneath them. I'm as much attracted to a man in jeans and a tee without hair as one in a $3,000 dollar suit and perfectly groomed.
