Where do you get the pictures for signatures and such

Where do you get the pictures that you use in your signatures and, I guess "story covers" for lack of a better phrase.

Do you just find them on google, take them yourself, draw them yourself?

I'm curious about this because I'd like to make a picture for one of my stories.

Also, if you're serious about marketing yourself and your work, a subscription to some sort of stock photo service is a great idea.

I do know that some authors who go on to publish e-books have such a subscription to avoid any sort of legal hassles.

I create cover art by buying and then manipulating stock-art images. Places like www.depositphotos.com and the like let you pay a picture at a time - or buy big packages with hundreds of photos you can download. When I use an image for a fun something I buy a small 72dpi image that costs me about $1.00
