Experimenting with the Notifications API

I’ve been playing with the Notifcation API available with most modern web browsers. It enables us to publish a notification to your browser that appears as a native notification (like you might see with other applications on your device).

When you see a prompt to accept notifications from Lush Stories, if you choose Yes then you should see an echo of the black box message you receive from the Lush website.

Let me know what you think.

It's pretty cool! I often do things on other web pages while the browser is still open so it's handy in that respect!
I did notice though, that these messages pop up and say they are from [my username] rather than who is sending them, which may or may not be something you can correct? (Eta: I noticed this has been sorted out, least I think!!).
And a little frustrating if you have a lot of Lush tabs open because you get a notification for every Lush tab ... my issue not yours smile
Otherwise, très awesome! Thanks.

I saw the "pop-up" and clicked yes. I figured I'd give it a try. Looking forward to seeing how it works.

It was annoyingly, naggardly persistent. I'd guess you succeeded.

The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

Looks nice. The way it works can have some unwanted consequences though.
For instance: I usually open Lush in a separate window in private mode, that I can hide behind a regular browsing window if necessary. I can imagine that more members do something similar, depending on where they are. These notification show up on top of every else, whether the tab that runs Lush has focus or not. So it essentially gives away the fact that Lush is running, even when that window is hidden.

I don't like it and have shut mine off. It makes just more attention to your screen.

You get the black box and then the notification box. Too many boxes in my opinion.

Not keen .. I have a Lush tab running but I am elsewhere and I get notifications of online boxes ... I get the noise so I dont need a pop-up in addition.

I responded to the request with a "no" because I had no clue what it was for. I'll keep it that way. I get too many notifications as it is. I do thank you, Gav, for keeping the site up to date. I did notice the added information now showing up on ones "my stories" page.

I like it, Gav! smile

Finding it handy, as I'm often on another window and get distracted and don't realise a friend on here is saying hi. Works for me, so far!

Good to see some of you find this a useful feature. I understand concerns over unwanted notifications appearing on your desktop.

I was toying with the idea of showing the persons avatar that is associated with the message. But then the thought of a masturbating daffy duck being presented to the other patrons of my local coffee shop has me doubting this feature.

Thoughts?

You people all have too much imagination. As if Warner Bros. would make a cartoon in which Daffy was masturbating

It's great for other people, but it's not for me, I'm afraid. Is there a way to stop the "Would you like..." box appearing every single time I open a new tab or page, please?

It's great when you're bouncing from window to window. I'd pass on the avatar though... Mysteria's wiggling bare ass would be just too much.

Hoozah! The "Would you like..." boxes have now disappeared. I clicked yes, and actually, it's not bad, and doesn't bother me, and I love how I don't see the avatars. Brilliant. Good job, Magic Tea man!

If it was limited just to lush it would be ok, but it pops up in every window I have open... it was a little awkward the other day because SJ sent me a BB complaining about his cooties and how badly they itched and my sister just happened to be using my laptop at the time

It is good in a way that it makes it harder to miss a message if you're floating around the site which can be annoying, that said, though it also makes it harder to pretend you missed messages from people you don't feel like talking to at the time or who constantly message you which can be annoying.. not that I ever do that of course

Can be a tad annoying seeing those people who consistently log in and out every 10 seconds because not only do you get the alert pop up in 2-3 boxes here now, but you get it on any other website you might be browsing... I would imagine this could be a little distracting for people watching porn at the time seeing "Kiera has just signed in, poke her" for example every few seconds, unless of course they do in fact want to poke me/them in which case perhaps this is a good thing

I actually like it for the most part and it's really handy if you are chatting to someone, but also say, perhaps on Facebook too, so you get a message when they reply instead of having to keep flipping screens and checking. Privacy is not an issue for me, it doesn't matter all jokes aside (sorry SJ the devil made me do it ) if anyone using my PC see's a message pop up because they know I come on here and I also have no significant other, but that is not the case for everyone so I would think that having the options to turn this on or off, or at least the option to just limit it to lush if you have not done so already might be the way to go, but that is just my

All in all, great job, Gav biggrin

So, you have Lush open every time you're on your computer? While I love Lush, when I'm done here I exit out and move on. Hence, when I'm not on Lush, no pop-ups. It can be handy when your BBing with a member and you click on a link to read something someone shared, you know when they've responded. Too often I don't hear the ping because I keep my volume low.

The notifications are great and I'm glad they are here. If you loan your computer to a friend or sibbling, close or logoff of Lush. It's really that simple.

I fail to see how you came to that conclusion tbh or where in my post i insinuated that I have lush open whenever I am online?

Obviously, the first part of my post was me jesting...SJ got rid of the cooties a few months ago, he is clean for now so long as he steers clear of N69

Kiera, you are so funny. So, since you didn't understand why I said what I said, allow me to show what you said that let me to what I said...

Now, your relationship with SJ is your business, but you were the one who wrote the above message... not me. And for these alerts to "pop up in every window you have open" means you have Lush open in one of those windows.

Then there is this phrase...

Now, you can just set yourself as invisible so no one knows when you're on. Many of us including our wonderful Mods use this exact setting so we can surf Lush at our leisure without interruption.

Here again, for this to happen means you have Lush open in one of your windows. Gav, correct me if I'm wrong here, but my experience has been the pop-ups only appear when I'm actually ON Lush... and not just on the internet. Hence, I have one of my windows open to Lush.

I sure hope SJ knew this was a joke. It kinda read like you were outting him. However, SJ is a good fellow so maybe he knew you were just being a brat as usual.

Actually, this is what the feature is made for. If you only had Lush open on one tab or browser, you would see the black box because its the only window open. If you had multiple tabs open, and Lush was one of them, you will get the extra notification on all tabs, including the Lush one, regardless of what tab you had active so you dont miss any messages. Why someone insinuated you are always logged in was because if you weren't, you would not get the notification. People read between the lines they are given. For those that dont like it, next time it pops up, click on the settings of the pop up (looks like a gear or cog) and turn it off. Its really that simple.

When visiting Lush in Firefox's Private Browsing mode this feature becomes pretty annoying quickly. There's no "Always Block Notifications" option in Private Browsing mode, only "Always Receive Notifications" and "Not Now". Choosing "Not Now" only seems to work for the current page, resulting in the dialog popping up on every page (re)load.

I agree, I dont have a privacy issue, its just damn annoying that the box appears every time I open a new page. I like to have control over what appears but I cant stop this notification Box. I appreciate that others love it but I dont want it and how do I stop it. As to clicking on the setting (the cog in Firefox), that is useless as it does not give you the option to add a site that you dont want to receive notifications from.
