Writing a comment on friends' profiles

Hello...

I cannot seem to post a comment on a friend's wall. Is this because I am not a paying member or am I being really dumb and missing where to type it?

It's my understanding that those with 'free' memberships cannot post to a friend's wall, at least not after the trial period for new members has lapsed.
