Copied this from today's NY Times. There are five more on the list if you need more suggestions. For me, any list beginning with Catherine Deneuve and ending with Nicole Kidman, is worth perusing.

“Fifty Shades Darker,” the “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequel that chronicles the relationship between a budding journalist and a damaged business scion with an affection for whips and chains, is released in the United States today.

In her review for The New York Times, the critic Manohla Dargis deemed the movie, based on the novels of E. J. James, “almost bad enough to recommend.” But not quite bad enough, it appears. (Read her review here.)

If that seems short of a ringing endorsement, here’s a roundup of other kinky movies you can catch if you want to scratch an itch for kink:

‘Belle de Jour’ (1967)

Luis Buñuel’s meditation on bottled-up desire caused a stir when it opened in Europe and the United States: The movie centers on Séverine, a French housewife who, out of boredom and frustration with her husband, dabbles in prostitution in the afternoons. The edgiest bits are Séverine’s fantasies, which include being tethered to a tree. (Read Renata Adler’s review here.)

Dirk Bogarde as a former SS officer who shares a dark past with Charlotte Rampling in Liliana Cavani’s “The Night Porter.” Credit The Criterion Collection

‘The Night Porter’ (1974)

Charlotte Rampling stars as a Holocaust survivor who, more than a decade after the war, rekindles a sexual relationship with the man who tortured her in a concentration camp. Maybe unsurprisingly, this Italian movie, directed by Liliana Cavani, stirred some controversy (and mixed reviews) when it was released. (Read Nora Sayre’s review here.)

Raucous sex appears pretty frequently in Pedro Almodóvar’s movies, but nowhere more explicitly than in this bondage comedy. The movie follows a man, played by Antonio Banderas, who ties up a woman in her home, sure that she’ll fall in love with him if she can just stay put for a while. (By the time the pair eventually re-consummates, the rope’s come off). (Read Vincent Canby’s review here.)

‘Crash’ (1996)

David Cronenberg’s film (not to be confused with Paul Haggis’s Los Angeles-focused 2005 film of the same name, which won the Oscar for best picture) centers on a couple with a fading sex life, who discover a mutual sexual interest in fender benders. The movie has a happy ending, of sorts: The leads rejuvenate their bedroom chemistry by bringing themselves to the brink of death in a vehicular accident. (Read Janet Maslin’s review here.)

‘Eyes Wide Shut’ (1999)

Stanley Kubrick, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise raised eyebrows (and pulses) around the world with this movie, about a couple with a lagging love life, who get roped into a high-powered underground sex ring in New York. After its release, the movie became instantly known for a memorable masked orgy. (Read Ms. Maslin’s review here.)

Steve McQueen in The Getaway. A great case of Stockholm Syndrome and cuckolding.

It's never made totally clear but the implication is that she has sex with the prison boss in order to get Steve McQueen out. I mean, cuckolding Steve McQueen?!!

There's a Roman Polanski film called Cul De Sac that always fascinated me. Nothing is ever explicit but there are definite cuckolding / humiliation undertones. I love the subtlety and having to fill in the gaps.

For me it's not sufficient to be sexy or erotic. It's got be a great film and have subtlety and finesse, not just porn.

I'm onboard with your thoughts, LW. For me, the sexiest film, all-time, is "A Man and A Woman" Of course, it's straight sex and romantic, but... .. It's just about the only movie I've watched where I was glad there were sub-titles instead of dubbed over English voices.

Just occurred to me that, "Last Tango in Paris" might qualify for the, kinky. The gal repeatedly cheats on her fiancé with a stranger to include the famous 'butter butt' scene.

"Secretary"
If you're in to dominant/submissive storylines with the sex scenes to match, this should be right up your alley. Although, come to think of it, there really isn't that much sex, just lots of kinky... well... you've got to see it to understand.

"Bound"
Also a great movie with an incredibly hot sex scene towards the start although there isn't much of anything all that kinky beyond one of them getting tied up for a good part of the movie (not in a sexual way though).

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

I just watched "Lost Girls and Love Hotels."

It's been described as a mix of "Lost in Translation" and "Fifty Shades of Grey," but in my opinion it bears more more similarities to the former. The kink aspects are played down a bit.

It's based on the book by Catherine Hanrahan.

This movie came out today and the critics were not kind.

I do get a tad irritated when critics catch a whiff of BDSM in a film and then immediately jump to the old 50 Shades comparisons. They see the addition of any kind of kink in a film as merely a way to shock viewers.

I was looking forward to this release mainly because I hoping to see some authentic visuals of the Kabukicho district of Tokyo, which has always fascinated me. The kink aspect was simply a bonus. It was understated and realistically portrayed in my opinion.

They didn't really show a lot, but instead tried to make the viewer understand why the protagonist was the way she was. A broken person looking for anonymity in one of the most densely populated places on earth.

I'm starting to think that a lot of modern critics these days are not watching a film and viewing it as a piece of art or as the way to tell a story.... They use the piece that they are critiquing to show the rest of the world who they are by their response to something that they point out as "socially unacceptable."

Reflections In a Golden Eye (1967). Brian Keith cuckolds Marlon Brando who has the hots for a younger man who rides horses naked through the woods near his house. And Brando takes a beating from Elizabeth Taylor for disrespecting her horse.
