So, Charlie Jane Anders is seriously on a roll right now. Won both the Nebula and Locus awards for best novel, two of the biggest honours in s-f, and is up for the Hugo for best novel as well, which would give her a literary hat trick. All for her first full-length novel, All the Birds in the Sky, which I am currently reading (she does have a Hugo for Best Novelette from 2012 for another work).

Anyhow, her major gig up until last year was founder and co-editor (with her partner Annalee Newitz) of s-f/fantasy news site io9.com and she wrote the following essay for that site on her early efforts at writing.

I Wrote 100 Terrible Short Stories that I'm Glad You'll Never Read

So cheer up those who are wrestling with their writing. Even one of the best new writers of this decade had to work at it to get to where she is.

This makes me smile. Sci-fi is not my thing, but will attempt to read her work for her honesty. Also, yours for sharing these words of encouragement. This is the kind of post that makes lush a good place x thank you for sharing it, Scott. Exx
