Win or lose, they will be walking away with paychecks larger than most of us will see in a year (or a lifetime.)

I was actually going to make this thread but I actually thought I would be the only on on Lush who would be even remotely interested in this fight.

I'm a huge MMA fan so I'm obviously going for Connor. Mayweather is a multiple-convicted woman-beater who at 40 years old can't even read.

That being said, McGreggor will be a huge underdog in this fight. Both guys will both be walking away with over 100 million dollars each. As a long time fight fan, the best fights usually aren't put on by multimillionaires.

This will be the biggest fight in history though, so it will definitely be worth the 100 dollar pay-per-view.

I'm with Damon - i'm also a huge MMA fan and a big fan of Conor. I am not into boxing, but from what i heard, Mayweather's last fight was pretty uninspiring and Conor has the energy of a madman and the a lot of heart. Plus, he doesn't take it outside of the ring and beat on girls. it is Floyd's sport, but i think Conor's gonna surprise a lot of people - mostly, i just WANT him to wipe the floor with the douchebag.

I am an MMA fan too and as much as I'd love to see Conor kick ass I don't think he has a chance. From the looks of it the rules are just stacked in Mayweather's favor. No kicks or take downs and heavier gloves. If it's a straight on boxing match, gotta go with Money.

Be rooting hard for Conor though.

Reports are out that Conor McGregor got knocked out while sparring in a training for his match with Mayweather. Not a good sign for McGregor fans, especially considering the 14 oz. training gloves compared to the 10 oz. gloves that will be used in the real match. Maybe McGregor broke his concentration. Who knows?

I'm pulling for Irishman but not overly optimistic.

As Nikki notes the rules lean in Mayweather's favour but I think there are a lot of unknowns and McGregor may surprise his ass. McGregor has a two inch reach advantage and an unorthodox boxing style and if he stays outside he may pull off an upset and the boy can punch fucking hard! I think McGregor is going to get carried away by his own enthusiasm and will try to take the fight to Mayweather. If that's the case Mayweather will wait for his opening and drop him.
I'm thinking Mayweather's usual defensive stance may not work as well against McGregor and if McGregor lands one really hard shot Floyd's going down if not on that punch in the flurry that will follow. If McGregor fights smart or gets just a little bit lucky he will win. I see the age differences as a huge factor.
And don't kid yourself McGregor can box.
I'm rooting for McGregor all the way.

If you missed the press tour, check out the highlights on youtube.

They did 4 stops: LA, Toronto, New York, London

By the last stop Conor was treating the whole thing like a roast on comedy central.

I especially liked seeing Mayweather's meathead entourage take a break from gym, tan, laundry and try to insert themselves into the scene.

How many millions of dollars is this spectacle? People are throwing money in the air and these guys are wearing tank tops?

And did nobody point out the irony? How many domestic violence charges does Floyd have? I'm sure Jimmy Fallon's writing staff are "workshopping" wife beater jokes as we speak....

Doesn't help my opinion of him that he just referred to Conor as a F*gg*t. Fingers crossed that he goes down hard.

Evidently, Jesse Vargas is the source for this story. Who Knows?

Like I said, I'll pull for the Irishman. I'd love to see Mayweather get clocked. Other than being a great boxer, he's a real shitty person.

There is no "story". Click on one of those links you posted and watch the 3 min video and then tell if you think that it's a "credible source." Tsk, tsk. This is a great example of how fake news gets started. Somebody uploads a shaky 3 minute "interview" onto their phone, and then a bunch of of internet "journalists" jump on in and try to craft a story around it in an effort to maximize the number of 'clicks' they get before they go sit on the toilet and finish off their workday by completing the minimum number of 'tweets' that their parent company has mandated they perform each day. #deathofjournalism

Because we now live in a world where journalists (yes, even sports journalists are journalists) are judged by by how many twitter followers they have and how many clicks they can generate. So it is up to us, the consumers of such readily available information, to discern whether the sources referenced are actually credible.

Now I will applaud you for two things...

First of all, you managed to passively aggressively post 4 shitty sources as opposed to just the usual 1. Congrats.

Second, you made me feel like one of the Conor McGregor fanboys that I've been shaking my head at for the last two years. My interest in Mac has been lukewarm at best, but now I feel like I should be wearing and Irish flag as a cape and chanting "ole, ole, ole, ole,"......whatever the fook that means.

Damon, I didn't passively aggressively do anything. Take the links for what they are, vague, yes. True? Who the fuck knows? But it is something that is out there. Is it possible? Yes, wouldn't be the first time a sparring partner takes a shot at a bigger name when they notice they've let their guard down. Or who knows what?

If it is true, then McGregor should have to put a pause in his sparring schedule after suffering a concussion. If there is no pause from sparring then that should show that nothing happened.

I first saw it on Forbes. You mentioned Forbes as not being a great source for MMA news so I looked up and just added a few other link sources.

I think the fight could be great entertainment. A great chance to have a party with a bunch of friends and watch it on the flat screen while consuming large quantities of alcohol, nachos, and dip.

So maybe the promoters of the fight will 'arrange' for it to go the distance. Now I'm just being facetious.

Fuck Mayweather. Hate everything about him including his "style." Wife-beating POS.

Don't really care about MMA either though. Unless it's the female circuit. Paige Vanzant is smokin hot.

As for Connor getting knocked out? Welcome to the ridiculous BS of modern boxing story lines. Pumping out stories to make Connor look like a dweeb with even less of a chance than people thought going into it. Logic says that it's his camp pumping these stories out. I have no doubt about that.

Buzz, you should change your name to "Chill." You're like Internet Valium. Always so level headed.

My previous reaction was probably received unfavorably. I know you posted the links without reading the stories or watching the video. I get it. Enjoy the fight.

Paige won't be fighting for a while....

but Alexandra Albu is fighting on the Jon Jones Card July 29

People should watch the Conor/Mayweather fight in August because it will be one of those historical fights blah blah blah... But UFC 214 will probably be the best night of fights this year.

Jon Jones is the best fighter on the planet. It's too bad that his fight is being overshadowed by this Mayweather clownshow.

I just hope Jones can refrain from snorting "blackroot" for the next month.

To all the old school boxing fans chomping your cigars in your smoke filled rooms in bowler hats I hope you realized that your day is done.

When this fight was announced the odds were 26-1 that Conner would win one round. One round! I was wrong because I thought Conner would last 12. I have never seen such a biased commentary in my life. Sugar Ray Leonard, you should be ashamed. I hope the next time you choose to embarrass yourself, you actually do your research.

This entire thing was an attack on mma, from the boxing based commentary to the idiot in the bowtie who not only stopped the fight early but continuously penalized Conner for clinching and rabbit punches even though Floyd did more.

Everyone in the boxing community needed Floyd to "teach McGregor a lesson" but unfortunately this spectacle just indicated a changing of the guard.

A fighter with 0 boxing matches gave the best fighter in history a run for his money.

I can only hope that Conner goes back to real fighting rather than chasing paydays.

didn't watch, but i did keep track of the round by round blog - sounds like Conor wasn't a push over, considering it was a sport he's new to. having spent time training in both martial arts and boxing, i know how very different the disciplines are - switching like that on a profesional level can't be easy. also, Conor was hampered by having to wear gloves, while Mayweather got to wear lighter gloves than normal, so the match started on uneven ground. no loss of respect for McGregor at all - that said, yeah, rather see him in the Octagon.

Taking the sentiment out of it McGregor fought well but Mayweather's experience carried the fight. As expected McGregor started off strong but he couldn't sustain the pace. McGregor threw way more punches but most didn't land and Mayweather just waited for him to tire. Mayweather fought a smart fight, didn't let McGregor use his reach advantage and his defense was far superior to McGregor's. As for the ref stopping the fight early that's often a controversy but McGregor was getting pounded, he couldn't keep his arms up to defend and that's usually when the ref will intervene to stop the fight. Had the 10th round been almost over I could see letting them box but the way it was going McGregor was gonna get dropped or potentially seriously hurt. I think Mayweather was the better boxer but full credit to McGregor, he just ran out of gas.
The conditioning needed for a 12 round fight is significantly different than MMA; obviously McGregor is in great shape but if you've ever boxed you'll understand the difference.

These are the scorecards for the fight.

Now if you watched the fight, then you would have seen that Conner won the first three rounds and possibly the 4th and fifth rounds as well. The fact that two of the three judges only gave Conner round one indicates the level of corruption that permeates boxing.

This kind of stupidity and ignorance is why boxing is a dying sport.

Yeah, there were more bets placed on this fight than any other in history. They even showed the fight in theaters which cut into what was already the worst box office weekend in years.

Which is why those scorecards are troubling. People made bets on how many rounds Conner would win. Those terrible scorecards probably cost a lot of money.

UFC/MMA is still just a fledgling niche sport with a graffiti skinned fan base which doesn't even follow real sports. 50% are just probably on the wagon if you catch my drift. So, allow me to educate you with some facts regarding the fight.

1)Sugar Ray Leonard is a boxing legend. Just cuz you didn't like his commentary doesn't change that fact. Of course he's biased, he's a boxing great. Probably a little miffed at the audacity/disrespect of Mickey G' to even want to get in the boxing ring with Mayweather.

2)The guy in the bowtie stopped the fight "early" as you say is so Mickey G could save a little face. The powers that be were not about to let McGregor get hauled off on a stretcher. How would that look for MMA?

3)A 40 year old former boxing champion who hasn't fought in 2 years handily defeats The face of MMA. A 29 year old in the prime of his career MMA champion at that. Mayweather did surgery on Mickey G. What do you think would have happened if Mayweather was 29 and in his prime? Huh?

4) Even Brock Lesnar was a mma champion even though he couldn't cut it in the NFL or WWE. What does that tell you? Keep tellin yourself it's a legit sport.

There ya have it. It was your pleasure.
