Back in the days when the Writer's Bug bit me, online publishing was still a great distance in the future. To write for publication meant only one thing, to write for the print media. I wanted to write serious nonfiction. I wanted to write articles on science, auto mechanics, electricity, electronics, photography, etc. I wanted to have those articles published in mainstream publications but breaking into those markets was almost impossible for an unknown writer with no published clips. I bought Writer's Market, I sent out queries; I submitted articles on speculation, with no success. Editors answered my queries asking for clips. My over the transom manuscripts came back with polite rejection slips. Then, one day, a friend suggested that I write about sex and sexual fantasies for all the "Real Letter" magazines that were just starting to pop up all over the place. I did and I sold four out every five submissions. Back then erotica was the easiest genre for a new writer to break into. That was over thirty-five years ago. I haven't written erotica for money in over thirty years now. Today I write in my chosen genres for both online publishers as well as for print publications. Today I write erotica simply because I enjoy writing it.

Today I also write erotica because it's a way for me to express my feelings about the way society perceives human sexuality. I have always felt that what ever gives two or people pleasure and causes no one harm is good for them and should be no ones business except their own. Many years ago, a very wise college professor told us during a Psych 101 lecture that no one can legislate human sexuality and that no one should have the right to try.

I would love to hear how you started writing erotica and why you write erotica today. Post your answers here, or, if it's too personal for everyone to read, send me a direct message and I'll respond in like manner.

I really enjoyed the stories of an author on another site and it sparked the desire in me to write. I eventually made contact with the author through email and hinted that he was the reason I bothered to write at all.

I've been writing erotica for about three years. I was looking for an online community to which I didn't need to "tone down" the content. I love this community as a way to express my self and also to hear feedback regarding my work. At the same time, I love to read erotica and the most intimate thoughts of the people who come here to share them.

I've always been a writer and a roleplayer (basically, collaborative writing on the internet). Then two years ago, I ventured into sexual roleplaying and ultimately erotic fiction. I'm 21.

I started writing in 1999 as an outlet for issues I had (and still have). These days I mostly enjoy reading and the stories I write are not at all erotic. The stories I recently posted here are some of my older work from other sites like Literotica.

I write erotica because I find it a challenge. From the surroundings I was raised in, writing erotica isn't even heard of-- let alone thought of. I started writing erotica, though, because I had spent years reading erotica on another site and felt I could do better than some of the few I had read. I still write it because most of my feedback tells me to continue my stories.

My writing, erotic and otherwise, started out as letters to a friend. In the beginning the letters were travelogues with passing references to sexual partners, but sex was a closed door to my friend and thus an endlessly fascinating topic, so as time passed... well, you get it.

It took six or seven years for us to start creating sexual fiction. And it was years after that before I was dreaming up the stories on my own. Now my hubris has grown to such an extent that I actually entertain the idea of someday getting paid for writing.

I should post a couple of the early stories. They're even more amateurish than the stuff I've already offered, but some of them are pretty hot.

The best thing about my path to writing erotica is that the collaborative nature of it taught me to write outside my own box. Endlessly rewarding, that.

I've written sex-related stories almost since I knew what sex was. I just have the constant urge to write about what's on my mind, and being 19, that's often sex.

It was really quite simple: I love writing and I love having sex. Now, throw in the fact that I love having sex with women; usually older women, and you've got a lesbian erotica writer who writes tales of cougar and kitten passion. I write from my heart; far more interested in creating depth and character. Erotica is all in the chase and seduction; not really the sex. And of course, the morning after. I also want my characters to love each other and to be loved by the reader.

Perspectives of, and sentiments towards sex in my home are very restrictive, vanilla, repetitious, bland, unimaginative, and unsatisfying - for one of us, anyway. Taking the experiences of my past and the near-misses, almost happened, or extrapolations of encounters or moments from my past, I started writing out what I had been fantasizing about for years, and found the many different angles, avenues, and the varying moods and roles that could be imagined in each, I found a way to organize, direct and enjoy further my fantasies and and enhance my memories, which were often the only fuel I had.

I found writing very exciting, and then realizing that others might enjoy reading my scenarios, and responding to them with comments, critiques, shared similar thoughts and experiences, to bring more satisfying results. I finally felt like I was expressing my long-repressed and disregarded human sexuality, which was a great source of elation and an outlet for me.

I started writing erotica by writing adult fanfiction. For those of you who dont know what that is..its writing stories based on characters that you love whether they be on TV..or in a movie..or even in a book. Some people have even written it about their favorite celebrities and even video game characters. They are written by fans for fans to read and are never published professionally nor is money made on them. They are just for fun. Not all fanfiction is adult or erotic. Mine happened to be. So...when I joined Lush...I decided to branch away from that and write stories involving original characters.

Fan fiction is how I got started too thats whay I do POV style writing. I alway wnated to see the entire sex scene in movies so I began writing it myself. I never posted any of my fanfiction. I got excited to think that my stories were being read and enhanced someones personal pleasure.

One day after 5 years of no sex within my marriage. I exploded with 3 fan fiction stories. Then a week later exploded with 4 more stories posted here at LUSH. The 4 stories I wrote are condensed sexual urges I have had over the past 5 years. I have 4 new stories I'm working on right now. Just a lot of pent up sexual desire. My husband read my first story Boy Interrupted and had a hard on for three days and pouted that hed diddn't know me anymore. He's working through some issues. Has been for 5 years.
May your orgasms be multiple.

I grew up in a very sexually repressed household and tiny country town. But my imagination would not be contained or controlled. I started keeping a diary when I was in college, and related my occasional "hits" and my far more frequent "near misses". In my middle 20's to middle 30's I had a number of delightful and bizarre sexual encounters, all which went into the diary. When the personal computer came out, I bought one, and immediately starting typing up some of my experiences, and then embellishing them, so that even the near misses became hot erotic successes. I discovered that writing erotica made me very aroused, as I could almost relive those events. For years, I wrote erotica just for my own entertainment (and for a few like-minded sex partners). Fast forward to Lush. Finally, I found an online community where I felt I could publish (most of) my stories, and spread the entertainment to a wider audience.

The first erotic story I wrote is half true. I actually did go to meet a cyber friend in the hopes of a bit of kinky activity. In person, it just didn't feel right to me, so nothing happened. Instead, I wrote a story about what I wished could have been.

I came across an article on sex fantasies on the net. There was a link to a sex fantasy story/chat site. It was free, so I joined. I thought it interesting to read the various stories people wrote, but never thought I would write anything. For one thing, I didn't want to write up the usual stuff that was written up a thousand times before. After a while, OK a few days, I get tempted by their "Hottest Fantasy" list...it seemed like a challenge, sort of like a mountain that needed to be climbed. Anyway, took me two tries...my second story about a girl who gets tied up with her own hair went to the top...
I guess I just sort of kept on writing after that...

After years of reading (and thinking) erotica, I have to admit it was 'Lush' that gave me enough self belief to write my first ever stories. The stories may not be the greatest you'll ever read, but I hav been grateful for the encouragement, advice and support found on this site.

And "no", I am not sucking up to the powers that be, although I do have a few fantasies regarding some of our more articulate ladies!!!!

It is for me, yes. I managed to work out my problems and finally resolved my...interests...byt marrying a like-minded man who has given me three children and a lot of love and understanding.

I started writing because I couldn't find many stories that fit all the dirty little desires and fetishes that filled my mind. After looking for stuff to satisfy me, I thought it would be simply easier to write my own.

Boredom and an overbearingly dirty mind combined with my natural inclination to write.....nobody quite thinks like anyone else, and even when we do share fantasies there's always the need to embellish. But until we get to that point there still needs to be a match to the fuse eh?
If that makes any sense, you will understand why I write erotica.

I started writing when I was apart from my then-partner for a few months and it just went from there. I've since had stories published. I've not written anything for a little while now because of family illness and relocation but I still enjoy reading erotica. Maybe one day soon I'll get my writing mojo back (-:

And somewhere, between when you said “I would never leave you”....And when you said “I can’t stay here anymore”....My heart got caught in the crossfire of all your words....

It was easy really. I already had a few fantasies I had been developing in my head while masturbating. The stories had grown quite detailed over the years and I just put them down in words. I've found it more difficult since I was actively trying to write new material.

My response starts off like that of Alison90 (above me ... or below ... or anywhere), but I digress .... It was easy, I have always let my imagination run a little free when I travel (especially if while waiting at red traffic lights) and the erotic stories crystalise in my mind for a while ... then I simply find time to put them to paper (in a manner of speaking). QED, see.

I started writing erotica stories in late 2000. It was something that was new and a challenge for me. Today, I write erotica because it is fun and exciting. I enjoyed writing material that people love to read.

I just recently started writing erotica. I am an insomniac so I journal and I am constantly writing! I write lists, journal entries, short stories normally but this one night I wrote something while I was semi-conscious and in desperate need of sleep. I re-read it the following day and was aroused by what I wrote. I had never written like that before. The content was taboo for me and my strict Catholic upbringing, but the story was so clearly erotic I almost tore it up. I told a friend about the story and he coaxed me into letting him read it and with his encouragement and now with my husbands support I write erotica and I love it!

I began collecting erotic stories from websites that dabble in such things, once I'd finally obtained internet access. My inclination has always been toward lesbian fiction (yes, Virginia... I'm one of those guys), so sapphic stories made up the vast bulk of my personal library.

I began to idly tinker with some of those stories, fixing dumb spelling mistakes (like "didlo," "tounge," or "throws of passion"), bad punctuation, misused words, mangled sentence structure, etc.

Then I graduated to editing out obnoxious terms like "fun bags" or "cunt meat" -- in fact, anything comparing women's body parts to meat. You know, the kind of things that really immature guys write.

And then there were writers who had their characters dropping trite lines like "Eat my fucking cunt, you little pussy-whore!" or screaming "Cummming!" at the moment of climax. (Does anyone actually do that!?) I tried to make the talk a bit more like what you might hear in real life, even in the heat of sexual passion.

The next step was removing whole scenes with sex acts I wasn't into, like scat, bestiality, serious violence and humiliation.

Soon I began to write male characters out of sex scenes, something that grew amazingly easy with practice. Then I tackled rewriting male characters into female -- a trickier proposition, but not too difficult after a few tries.

Finally, I began to write my own parts, fleshing out the characters, adding more sex and -- most important of all! -- putting more detail into the buildup to sex. To me, that's the crucial part of a good erotic story. A well written seduction can be even hotter than describing the fucking itself.

I never really thought of doing anything with these stories, you understand -- at that time, they were intended only for personal enjoyment.

Eventually, though, I summoned up the courage to post a story at Lush, one rewritten so completely that nothing of the original remained.

The response was positive, so this time I wrote a story completely from scratch and nervously made it public. Well, how 'bout that -- they liked that one even more! So now I'm an erotic writer. Wow.
