What's the ONE song that when you listen to; no matter what mood you have, no matter how hard you try not change your mood, but when you listen to that ONE song it makes you cry?

I have to go for My Immortal by Evanescence Once i hear the intro, everything changes and i start to cry and just cant stop....

The Swan by Saint-Saëns

Either listening to the song itself, or watching the famous ballet solo of the Dying Swan set to this piece... I cry everytime!

I second that especially when played at a military funeral.

Some Fantastic Place by Squeeze. I cry like a baby every time I hear it because it's so true about so many of the people I've lost over the years. They wrote it together about a woman that had helped them out in the early days of their careers. It's just about the most beautiful set of words ever to me.

She gave to me her tenderness
Her friendship and her love
I see her face from time to time
There in the sky above
We grew up learning as we went
What a voyage our life could be
It took us through a wilderness
Into the calmest sea

Her smile could lift me from the pain
I often found within
She said some things I wont forget
She made a few bells ring
So simple her humility
Her beauty found in grace
Today she lives another life
In some fantastic place.

She showed me how to raise a smile
Out of a bed of gloom
And in her garden sanctuary
A life began to bloom.
She visualised a world ahead
And planned how it would be
She left behind the strongest love
That lives eternally

I have the hope that when its time
For me to come her way
That shell be there to show me round
Whenever comes that day
Her love was life and happiness
And in her steps I trace
The way to live a better life
In some fantastic place

Damn it. Just reading the words brings the tears...

I second that. This song is as full of wisdom as any I've ever heard. Every new parent should listen closely.

Another that brings a tear to my eye is Mr. Bojangles by Jerry Walker among others.

Surely silence can sometimes be the most eloquent of replies

Same here, and being a 'retired' paid firefighter officially on Monday, 05April10. This song/music is going to mean more to me. My new job will be after the 'scene', state fire marshal's office.

Beyond the Sunset - by George Younce

The song includes a poem called "Should you go first" Which has so much meaning if you lost a loved one.

Should you go first and I remain
to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden, dear
with happy days we've known
in Spring I'll wait for roses red,
when fades the lilacs blue,
in early fall, when brown leaves call
I'll catch a glimpse of you

Should you go first, and I remain
for battles to be fought,
each thing you've touched along the way
will be a hallowed spot
I'll hear your voice;
I'll see your smile,
though blindly I may grope
the memory of your helping hand
will buoy me on with hope

Should you go first and I remain
to finish with the scroll,
no length'ning shadows shall creep in
to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness
we've had our cup of joy,
and memory is one gift of God
that death cannot destroy

Should you go first and I remain,
one thing I'd have you do;
walk slowly down that long, lone path,
for soon I'll follow you
I'll want to know each step you take
that I may walk the same,
for some day down that lonely road
you'll hear me call your name

Congrats and my sympathy as well. You didn't get in to be "after the scene" but at least you're able to go back in some way. Good Luck my friend.

Lou Reed - Perfect Day...there is an undertone of sadness and hopelessness in his voice which contrasts with most of the upbeat lyrics like he knows this one moment will be the only good one before life hits him down again...It's simple and emotive

Doesn't make me cry but it does have an edge, especially the way he sings it.
And love this part!
