Interview with AutumnNymph

AutumnNymph is one of our most popular authors. We sat her down on the virtual couch and asked some probing questions. If you would like to have an interview with Lush, please contact us.

Favourite author(s)
I would take up several webpages if I listed them all! Let's see. There's Adam Rapp, Cecilia Ahern, Dick Francis, Douglas Coupland, Elizabeth George, Elizabeth Peters, Faye Kellerman, Jonathan Kellerman, Mitch Albom, Neil Gaiman, Robert Fulghum, Stephen Fry...and that's just off the top of my head.

Favourite book(s)
Oh my, this is yet another long list. The first book that comes to mind is Sue Monk Kidd's The Secret Life Of Bees. First book that had me crying like a baby after. Harry Potter, the 7th book in particular. Again, off of the top of my head: Alex Delaware novels by Jonathan Kellerman, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarden by Robert Fulghum, Amelia Peabody novels by Elizabeth Peters, Girlfriend In A Coma by Douglas Coupland, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, PS: I Love You by Cecilia Ahern, Reading Lolita In Tehran by Azir Nafisi and a hell of a lot more.

The book that changed my life
Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom. There are no words that can properly define the simple beauty in that book. It touched me emotionally and spiritually; I was in a daze for days after. "Death ends a life, not a relationship." Truly inspiring.

What are you currently reading
A number of books. Stephen Fry's Moab Is My Washpot is one. I've read that book quite a number of times, but it never gets old to me. Oh, and Emergency Sex (And Other Desperate Measures) - True Stories From A War Zone by Kenneth Cain, Heidi Postlewait and Andrew Thomson.

I'm inspired by...
Art. Animals (I have two puppies, a smattering of kittens, a few horses and a turtle). Books. Bubbles. Carrie Underwood. Cheap finds. Clay. Coffee. Food (fried chicken, pies, sushi and turkey come to mind). Intelligence in the most unexpected places. Jason Mraz-oh, how I love that man. Laughter. Literature. Little kids. Music. Peppermint. Pleasant surprises. Rainbows. RENT. Starbucks (I'd probably go through withdrawal if they ever shut down). The '50s/the '60s. Vintage style. A lot, basically.

I started writing because...
We moved around a lot when I was younger, so I didn't take to making new friends easily. So instead of potentially awkward situations in the outside world, I turned to my writing and churned out my own fantasies in my inside world.

Aside from writing, what occupies your time
Life in general, haha. I'm almost always writing something, whether it's a dirty little ditty on a napkin during a night out with friends or a song to help me through a rough situation in my laptop. My desk has a pile of napkins, receipts and other such paraphernalia with the most random things on them! Other than that...I play the guitar and the drums, I sing, I'm very much into photography; it's really all about the arts for me.

How did you get in to writing erotica?
Okay, this isn't something I'm entirely proud of. I had a rather wet dream about a certain celebrity that my best friend and I have a common crush on. I was initially e-mailing her about it, but I ended up writing a whole story! That got me started, really.

What's your favourite writing genre and why
I don't have a particular favorite, save maybe for romance. Even then, I don't always incorporate that into my pieces.

Where do you get your creative juice/story ideas from?
Usually I'll see something or hear a certain song and that'll get me going. Real life, too - Cal's Sexcapades, for example, are loosely based on a friend's sexual adventures.

What are your turn-ons?
Ice cream, intelligence, a sexy voice, and nice eyes. Deep blue or startling green eyes usually get me. Like I said earlier, I really do have a thing for color. Submission, too - I'm naturally a Dom, so there's always that.

What are your turn-offs?
Beastiality, anything that has to do with bodily fluids, painfully horrid English grammar (spoken and written), people who are full of themselves.

Music I frequently listen to
A lot! I love music. Adam Pascal, Annie Lennox, Anthony Fedorov, Anthony Rapp, Barenaked Ladies, Beyonce Knowles, Bob Dylan, Broadway tunes (Annie, Avenue Q, Cats, Hairspray, RENT); Carrie Underwood, Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, Idina Menzel, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Lea Salonga, Linkin Park, She Wants Revenge, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tori Amos and a lot more.

My favourite work of art is
Nik Arnoldi's Coffeestain Comicks is one, particulary Fred the Pear. In terms of paintings, Nik's Pudding does the trick for me. It's a beautiful piece that, I feel, represents me well! You can see a photo of it if you check out my avatar.

Favourite Movies
Across The Universe, Adventures In Babysitting Amelie, Annie, Chocolat, Dead Poet's Society, Erin Brockovich, E.T., Legally Blonde, RENT, Serendipity, The First Wives Club, The Last Samurai, and more.

Which websites do you regularly visit
Other than Lush?, Dogster, Gmail, LiveJournal, MySpace,, Slashdot (on ocassion), Stephen Fry's blog, and a number of others.

What would be a perfect weekend for you
A sexually-charged getaway with my significant other would be just fantastic. Actually, it doesn't even have to be sexually-charged; just spending time with him is good enough for me.

Ideal holiday destination

At home I cook
A lot! Italian food, mostly - lasagna, risotto, stuffed sausages. I like obscure foreign food, really, so there's always something different boiling/frying/stewing in my kitchen.

The hardest thing I've ever done was
Fall in love again, especially after I swore to myself that I wouldn't. It was doubly hard because at the time, I had zero idea if that person felt the same way about me.

Most surprising thing people could find out about you
I'd actually rather be behind a camera than in front of it! Photography keeps me sane and serves as a wonderful outlet for me that's more physical than writing.

I don't like talking about...
Nonsense, and my past relationships. Not that I have anything to hide; it's more like I'd rather not revisit the memories of pain.

What I find amusing is
Conan O'Brien, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Dat Phan, Drawn Together, Kelli Dunham, Last Comic Standing, my puppies' antics, Neurotically Yours, Starbucks paraphernalia (I collect that), Striperella and Strongbad's E-mails, among others.

What I don't find amusing is
Anyone and everyone who types as if they were using a cellphone instead of a keyboard, burnt toast, high gas prices, Marilyn Manson, my turn-offs, people who poke fun at mentally/physically challenged folks, prolonged exposure to people I can't stand.

If I wasn't me I'd like to be
Neil Gaiman!

I often wonder...
...what would have happened if I hadn't been as brave with love as I am now.

Thanks AutumnNymph for you time. We thoroughly recommend you have a read of AutumnNymph's work.
