Hello again.

Topic Would you meet someone from Lush in person?
Posted 22 Aug 2013 14:26

Yes I would - the older I get the more I don't give a damn about consequences and simultaneously want to cram in as much living as possible. I also love travel- still have the Stepenwulf inclination.

Topic What's the one band that according to you, can do no wrong?
Posted 21 Aug 2013 13:00

There's a whole lot more to great music than just technical virtuosity. Many virtuoso musicians make crap music in my mind, because all they want to do is show their skills. Give me an awesome vibe/riff over any virtuous jibberish any time.

And rock groups not being bands? P-lease, the 1940's are long gone and jazz is not the norm to measure everything by.

My main point wasn't so much to revive the 40's as to what I feel of as a band - not that I think something being modern necessarily means good either and as for the expressions you used they were jazz ones anyway. As Cole Porter wrote ''I'm sure that if, I heard even one riff, it would be more terrif.....ically so''. Your implication is that a lot of jazz players are self indulgent however that also applies to players in other fields but stuff like ''I Don't Get Around Much Anymore'' or Take The A Train can't be considered self indulgent. I also acknowledged that rock groups are technically bands but my point was that in my mind ''band'' conjures up a group of musicians that play more than just guitars. I can remember when the expression ''group'' changed into ''band'' - it was in the late 60's but it still sounds strange to me in this context for the reasons I have stated.

Topic The Ultimate Sci-Fi Showdown: STAR WARS vs STAR TREK
Posted 20 Aug 2013 03:04

To me Star Wars is sort of kids stuff like a western set in outer space albeit entertaining. Star Trek although it sometimes has a preachy feel to it does have a more intelligent and optimistic approach to the subject. It is also more believable in itself for example - light sabres are really too much to take. If Al Capone went for Luke Skywalker with a tommy gun I think Capone would win.

You know I can't help adding another comment. We've all been using the word band and what comes across is what I would call rock groups - I realise that strictly speaking even that grotty lot One Direction yechhh are a band but the word to me connotes more instruments that just vocals, keyboards, drums and guitars. My father's generation produced some amazing musicians as opposed to the current vogue (and I am part of that) of self taught rock musicians which has prevailed since the 50's. Names like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Bennie Goodman, MJQ, Dave Brubeck etc it would be very difficult for many rock groups to equal their technical virtuosity. In fact the ''biggest band in the world'' would be the first to agree with that.

Topic Attraction (Science) - Would you agree?
Posted 18 Aug 2013 05:33

I am baffled by the use of ''shame'' in this discussion - I understand ''introspective'' but shame to me indicates guilt over some bad action - not to be confused with some ''rebellious inclination'' but something to be truly ashamed of (or is ''shame'' just some sort of point of reference term?) Why would that be appealing to a mothering instinct? I would have thought some sort of ''helplessness'' indication would be a better definition in this context of mothering. Also I thought that women are attracted to good providers therefore in today's world that would be the potential high earners rather then the past's more primitive criteria. If I was a girl I would like clever laid back guys who don't compete and try and prove themselves all the time as that's the kind of women I like.

Am I getting this right? Are ''speedos'' these - to me quite normal looking bathing costumes as opposed to those current awful long ones that must feel dreadfully nasty and wet flapping around your legs yechhh! It must be a cultural thing/gender thing (I've never seen a girl in one thank god). They also look very old fashioned to me and when I was younger anyone with that sort of costume was a figure of fun - it was a cliche for a corny tourist - with cameras around the neck, a Hawaiian shirt and ....Bermuda shorts.

Topic Older men, do you really want to be with a younger woman atleast one in your life?
Posted 18 Aug 2013 00:50

All of them - any age women are just so gorgeous. I internally drool on the metro at the sight of them - a lot of women nowadays of all ages make the best of themselves. I can catch my breath at some lovely strong limbed creature in outrageous clothing but also many older women have poise and confidence and are extremely attractive. I'm afraid I'm just a dirty old man that's never recovered from discovering girls.

Topic What's your favorite Disney Movie/Character?

The pekinese in Lady and the Tramp. Amazing how Disney let the character be shown as it was quite risque especially for the 50's.

I believe nutrition can make a difference on health as a whole if you consider it thoroughly and entirely. If you simply drink green tea, but eat at McDonald's the whole year, you might not really notice important benefits. It's the cumulation of small benefits that make you healthy in the end.

Myself I eat healthy foods 90% of the time and I feel quite healthy and energic, have clear thoughts, have no medical condition, etc.

I do appreciate your comments. I wouldn't be seen dead in McDonald's ironically I went in once and they had great difficulty in finding me one of their advertised salads (an indication of what most people eat there). :) However you didn't quite answer my question - is this stuff the miracle tonic of its reputation or not? I feel I do eat mainly healthy foods, am the same weight as when I was 16 - 9st 6lbs but do have bronchitis (a legacy from my smoking days). And like a lot of older people am fixated about my health - yes you all have this to look forward to along with different sleep patterns due to having less of the chemical that keeps you asleep, and a fascination with bowel movements (told you I was fixated about health).

Topic What's the one band that according to you, can do no wrong?
Posted 16 Aug 2013 06:23

I like lots of bands however there are tracks played by all of them that I don't like so to answer the question truthfully I can't think of any performers who I would feel were always perfect not even the biggest band of all time.

After research on the net I have started drinking powdered green tea the idea is that as it's powdered you get more benefit from it as you consume everything. However I have my doubts about all so called health foods and would be interested in anyone's experience regarding this as part of me thinks I am just going through the motions and finishing the packet as it was very expensive.

Topic Poor Little Old Oprah Winfrey
Posted 14 Aug 2013 23:42

I don't have any particular axe to grind against Oprah Winfrey I felt she gave quite an impressive performance in The Colour Purple. However I do feel anyone earning these vast sums of money is drastically overpaid. I don't give a damn if anyone thinks I'm jealous of a rich life style but it is obscene to spend 38000 on a purse in fact it's obscene to offer it for sale in the first place and I do have a problem knowing I live well compared to third world countries where people starve never mind can only afford 1 car a family (by the way I can't really afford a car but don't want one). I suppose my inclinations are towards socialism but some fairer distribution of the world's resources seems the only thing rather than pretending to 'rescue' poor oppressed countries like Iraq which just happens to be the world's second biggest oil producer but ignoring other oppressed places like Egypt where the main industry is only displaying the past. I see this whole pretentious incident a symptom of these contradictions.

Singing In The Rain.....

"I'm singin' in the rain
Just singin' in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
And I'm happy again.
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark, up above,
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love.

Let the stormy clouds chase.
Everyone from the place,
Come on with the rain
I have a smile on my face.
I'll walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singin', singin' in the rain."

Simple but so very classy

I agree with this one I believe it is the most shown film clip of all time.

Topic what grabs your attention when reading profiles?

The resume part which is often a bit aggressive and off putting. The kind that says things like be respectful etc. I would prefer it if people made positive assumptions about unknown people rather than the opposite. It's perfectly obvious what civilized behaviour is and there is no need to belabour the point.

Topic Do u guys enjoy kissing? or just straight to the action?

Well the young couple I saw on the tram this afternoon obviously like kissing. They were devouring each other to the point where I nearly offered them the price of a hotel room.

In The Heat of The Night. Sidney Poitier falsely arrested for murder is asked by the inefficient racist red neck police what he does for a living he replies '' I'm a homicide detective for the Philadelphia police.'' One of my all time favourite movie moments.

Topic Jealousy
Posted 28 Jul 2013 13:35

Our ideas about 'faithful' relationships are built on jealousy otherwise none us would have any problem with extra marital relationships trust breaking etc we would all agree to a well rounded 'mature' acceptance of all our little kinks and quirks. However this is not the case and I'm sure this would apply to sub/dom relationships too.

But what about my statement would you use to support that statement, Jack_42?

If we are talking a reasonable length of time of course I would respect some crazy hangup with waiting until the union is sanctified; but 30 years - give me a break this would make a good movie. ''Yes here it cums a pent up wall of orgasm 30 years worth of sperm drowning the innocent virgin as she sacrifices her all for her chosen mate.''

Topic Just Wondering, Please Help?

Not simply James Joyce, but some Henry Miller, William Burroughs, Thomas Pynchon and others. They were experimenters with writing who intentionally wrote to obfuscate and try to teach a new way of reading. Stream of conscious writing does not lend itself well to actual storytelling which most erotica is.

Joyce's material didn't touch on the erotic or Henry Miller? Obfuscate? I don't think the idea was to confuse the reader so much as depict the way thought patterns work. Most novels are story telling (or are you saying Ulysses doesn't tell a story or Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man ) stream of consciousness notwithstanding? There is also an argument that some erotica is not so much telling a story as depicting a function or scene. Anyway my point was ignored with this digression into the literary style lesson you decided to go into.

Topic Who is your favorite actor to play James Bond?

Nobody (as Lush is so fixated on correct grammar etc) has answered the question correctly so my choice of an actor to play this part would be Will Smith he looks a suitable Scot.

Topic Guys, please answer honestly!!!
Posted 28 Jul 2013 02:40

It's very easy for we who are not you or in your situation to make a quick judgement however nothing is ever straightforward. I have had friends experience this situation and as others have said it can get more violent. If you personally feel that the plus side of this relationship is so good that it needs saving then I would go for professional advice or arbitration. The time to mention this would be when he is in ''forgive me for being so awful'' etc mode if he doesn't agree to it then I would seriously consider leaving. It can get to the point where the aggressor urinates on someone who he has beaten to the floor. There was an experiment once I believe to rehabilitate rapists that was very successfu and I feel this indicates that this attitude can be reversed.

I suppose if you wrote stories the way James Joyce did you'd get banned on Lush. Not sure how Oscar Wilde would have viewed Joyce's stuff.

That's unfortunate, Adagio. Hard to believe, even. I'm sorry to hear that's true, but many, if not most women (and men) who choose to wait are not in fact evil bitches. To everybody who isn't the guy with a lot of pent up rage about this, I realize we're only hearing a small fragment of one side of the story.

I'm sorry but if I thought for one moment that this was true they would be evil bitches.
