Meh. You want to live in a perfectly safe environment, go find yourself a NERF planet and move there. I never said make confinement in a mental health facility mandatory. I said offer counseling to kids who appear to need it. And I never said more laws wouldn't help. I said YOUR laws wouldn't help.

Have you said why registering guns and real waiting periods and classes and mandatory training before getting a gun wouldn't help or have you just stated they wouldn't? I'm all ears.

I didn't say you said to make them mandatory I said you would need to for that to work. Are you trying to say someone like Rodger would go to a mental health facility willingly? His parents reported him to the police. Do you think they didn't try to get him help before resorting to that? Laughable and talk about a bandaid solution.

This will get us started.

How Pick Up Artist Philosophy and its Misogynist Backlash Shaped the Mind of a Killer

The Terrifying, Twisted Online World of Involuntary Celibates

The Pick-Up Artist Community's Predictable, Horrible Response to a Mass Murder

and not one I necessarily endorse, but I'm still thinking about the points within:

White Guy Killer Syndrome: Elliot Rodger's Deadly, Privileged Rage

Yeah all this shit is pathetic and it's right up there with penis enlarging pills and snake oil. Sounds like something desperate our immediate gratification culture has created. Men think they can pay their three easy payments of 19.99 and they will be taught how to pick up chicks from the bar instantly and they can finally get their dick wet. I can see the most inept, lonely and gullible of men falling for this. Unfortunately what can you do about it? Snake oil salesmen have been part of america since before it was even America and now they have freedom of speech and capitalism on their side.

It is disturbing that men will buy into that. That they think women work that way to begin with. The whole system adds to it. Its passed down from father to son, they see their moms give into it or not even notice it happening. The media blasts it on every screen. Music, listen to rap, R&B, dance, country just to name some of the more popular genres and it's there too. ~ You know you want it ~ How many women themselves sing about needing a man or their world is empty? Open up a comic book aimed at teenage boys and look at the way women are drawn compared to men. Even some of the most socially aware comic books like the X-Men drop the ball when it comes to the way they depict women. They have strong female characters but they also have to be sexy. In the new movie which I thought was great they have an incredible female lead in jennifer lawrence playing a complex not quite hero not quite villain character. That is great except they chose to make her naked most of the time. What does it mean that she is naked? Could be it just looks cool, 14 years ago thats how they first made that character for the big screen (she's clothed in the comics), it could make more sense for her power, or it could be that yeah they made an incredible female character but guess what, she's still gonna be naked.

And what does it all mean? Why are we like that? What can we realistically do about it when it relates to mass killings? We can't really change our whole system in a timely manner can we? It takes generations, centuries for us to change that. History can show you that. 100 years ago it was harder to be a woman. 100 years before that is was even harder. It still is hard. Thats why I posted the quote about men being afraid of rejection and women being afraid of death. But there are no laws that can be made to protect women from a misogynistic mindset. In fact the first amendment protects them. In time the more and more these type of men like rodger don't breed the less of them there will be. 2,000 years from now they might almost be extinct.

All right. If you're serious instead of just wanting to rant about your own personal bugaboos.

First, I'd decriminalize pot. Start commuting sentences and reducing prison populations. Use the savings to open up some of the mental health treatment centers that were defunded during the Reagan years. I'd require teachers to have more training in child development and how to perform mental health evaluations. I'd require children to have more thorough mental health screenings, and require schools to tighten up their wasteful spending and offer counseling to students that appear to need it.

And I'd hire someone to bitchslap Elliot Rodger's absentee parents into the next century.

That would do a helluva lot more that any of your bullshit would.

I agree with that. The only thing is you'd have to make mental health facilities mandatory BEFORE the patient has committed a crime. The thing is that mandatory health facilities (I live by one of the largest criminally insane mental institutions in the US) tend to not release their patients/inmates. They are there for life. Would it be ethical to put people like elliot rodger in such a place before he even commits a crime?

The irony of what you are proposing though is that it would create more laws and more paperwork and more bureaucracy than what I am proposing in having a department that regulates guns in a thorough and useful way. You argue more laws and regulations don't help anything but that is what you are proposing. I guess it's okay as long as it has nothing to do with guns. What is even more ridiculous is that your guns wouldn't even be taken away.

That's true.

Lots could be said about misogyny and rape culture, how we got to this point where there is so much supposed equality yet so much objectification. How much of the media drives it, and how much of it is engendered in universities. Is it more of a white collar/upper class problem? Is white privilege itself dangerous in some ways? How much is left to be said between girls/womens plights today? Does glorifying the murderer make him a perverse patron saint among other angry/spurned misanthropes? How about the pickup artist subculture's extremely sexist response to all this? How much could we talk about here besides gun control? I'd say a lot.

But yes, if the discussion is about proactively going about solving/reducing gun crimes in general, then of course less guns will accomplish that. We've been through that debate here a time or twelve.

Like I said before, though, I think I just mistook the purpose of the your thread.

Unfortunately the other gun thread was deleted out of nowhere when a certain naked thread mediator that is now not one embarrassed himself repeatedly. If it hadn't had been deleted I would argue about guns in that thread.

I haven't seen the response by the pick up artist subculture but I have seen you mention it twice. Why don't you post some links so we can inform ourselves although I suspect they also glorified him as a hero.

I don't think it's white privilege. It's a society that is used to immediate gratification, fast food, pretty colors at the movies, being able to live in a very comfortable way for relatively cheap. One of the only things left that a male has to actually work for is the true affection from a woman. You can't just go buy that. You can't just achieve it in a day or a week or a month. You combine that very human fact with our culture of immediate gratification - that we all love lets not kid ourselves - darwinism and guns and you have a recipe for what happened last friday. When you add something like a gun to the mix you no longer have survival of the fittest. You have something else. There will always be males that women pass on. Always. And the same for women males don't want.

The thing is, what the hell can anyone do about our whole culture. Nothing. We can take very reasonable steps toward a department of firearms that is run like the DMV. That in no way goes against the second amendment. The second amendment is the right to bear arms not the right to bear as many arms as you want with absolutely no restrictions or regulations. Like Nudiepants said, with enough money you can get ahold of pretty much anything short of your own drone. So are they really arguing that we should all be able to have guns to overthrow the government or to police ourselves or defend ourselves like the second amendment was intended or do they just like blowing stuff up and satiating their paranoia and fear with a bunch of guns they don't need and creating a demand for more and more guns to be made that will eventually end up in the wrong hands the more guns there are?

You're a joke and your reasoning if such it can be called is flawed at best. The stats on firearms crime are abundantly clear, more laws are NOT needed better enforcement IS. Now, you and that needlessly massive ego of yours are free to MOVE to anywhere you please on the planet. I understand gun ownership by citizens is also banned in: China, North Korea, Vietnam, or ANY of the Islamic nations...bon voyage! Write if you get work!

Aren't you the guy that was stalking and harassing various females on this site not too long ago? I remember reading your disturbing rants on here before. They rejected you and you were going off about how they are liars and whores and shit like that after they wanted you to just leave them alone.

For every one of those countries there are twice as many more that have the same laws that don't have their problems. You're a stupid old dinosaur and I'm not gonna reply to you anymore because you bog down the thread with idiocy and it makes it boring to read.

In terms of solving it and stacking it neatly into a drawer, you're right. You can't prevent violence or insanity any more than you can prevent jealousy or anger.

But I was interested in what your original post implied, that this one is a unique mixture of class/race entitlement, rape culture, and gun violence. If it was just a setup to reveal that all but gun control were fallacious arguments to make, then I mistook the point of the thread.

It's a pretty juicy topic aside from that though, even if it's not the discussion you were aiming for.

Right off the bat the first reply was about guns because what has anyone said about misogyny that isn't just "well it's wrong". The combination of our rape culture society made him justify his actions as righteous in his mind and many other men's minds. The guns gave him the balls too. We can't regulate misogyny but we can guns like every other civilized nation does. I said it would be great if we could actually do something legally and ethically to people that have these warning signs but we really can't economically or morally.

Uh huh. If you think inpatients can't get drugs, you're stupid. But enough of your strawmen...

This event wasn't a "spree". It was planned, premeditated. He waited years before acting. I could guess why these types of madmen usually kill themselves before being caught, but it would only be my personal theories, so lacking fact or data I'll refrain.

Keep focusing on semantics and metaphors that go over your head. What an idiot.

Topic Elliot Rodger kills 6, injures 13 others. Is it rape culture, guns or something else?
Posted 28 May 2014 11:22

That's not really what I was implying; I could have been clearer.

I do think a casualty of gun-rights debates is that even now, the underlying recipe for violence isn't dealt with. I think guns are a big problem. I don't think they're the entire problem. As I stated before, this case brings to light a few things different than most mass shootings lately, and makes a whole other discussion possible. If you want to just stick with the gun angle though, fair enough.

There is no solution for making people not violent. It is our defining trait as human beings. It says GUNS right there in the title of my thread. Gun regulation at the moment is the only thing we can even begin to discuss as a solution because there is no intelligent arguments for anything else. I haven't heard any from any of you.

For example. Look at this genius.

This shouldn't even be a pro-gun vs anti-gun discussion. It should be a "how can we be proactive in preventing wackos from repeating this kind of terror attack" discussion.

He says it shouldn't be about guns but rather about how to prevent wackos from doing this. BUT then thats where his ideas stop. He has none. No one has any. Civilized nations on par with us have all adopted legitimate gun programs and laws and this doesn't happen there. It's not hard to understand. It's something that can be researched and actually measured with statistics. "stopping wackos from doing this" while keeping guns in their hands. Is just a statement. Go ahead nudiepants. How should we go about doing that?

Yes, junkies in treatment programs get illicit drugs smuggled in every day. And what are you gonna do - get rid of every stick in the world? No, unless you're an asshole, you teach the kid not to hit.

Elliott Rodger was a severely disturbed individual. He was able to obtain firearms in a state with some of the strictest firearms laws in the nation. More laws wouldn't have prevented this. This wasn't a brief "dark period" in his life. He plotted it for years.

Assume for a moment that we live in your gun-free utopia, and that Rodger wasn't able to use a firearm. So? His first three victims were all stabbed to death. In your mind, I suppose that's a more pleasant way to be murdered.

He would have used knives, bombs, clubs, even his cherished BMW. The death toll might have been even higher, the tragedy greater. People like you are the problem, because you refuse to acknowledge what the real problem is. You want to blame a tool for the actions of the user, and that's not only counter productive, it's just insane.

They are the strictest in a nation where the laws aren't strict at all.

If he could have done the same with a knife and kill more people like you say then why didn't he keep using the knife. Why didn't he use the knife to kill himself instead of the gun? Why do the spree killers all kill themselves before getting caught in almost every spree killing? Because the guns give them the balls too, that's why.

You obviously know nothing about treatment centers. The doctors can tell when someone is on heroin lol.

Not really making a pro-gun argument here. Just stating that in this case, I think we were dealing with one of those who'd have projected his rage at others one way or the other.

Some ways are less deadly than others.

You said there was merit in not making it hard for people like this to stockpile firearms because they were gonna do something stupid anyway. Don't see how anyone with common sense could think that the result would have been the same if he didn't have the fire power he had.

The onion's article on this was pretty spot on even if it's tongue in cheek.

Do I wish he hadn't had a gun? Yes. In this case though, do I think he'd have probably knifed a few people, maybe started an apartment fire, and perhaps run somebody down in his car? Yes.

Nothing scientific, just a hunch.

By that way of thinking why not just make fully automatic weapons legal then? I mean he was gonna kill someone anyway. I guess he would have managed to hit nearly 20 people with his car right? If he was lucky he would have started the fire in a way where the building burned down before the firemen got there right? Why don't we hear more stories about apartment buildings trapping everyone inside and killing them all before the firemen get there? Must be because they are good at what they do.

If they are going to kill anyway and it's not guns then why do we even have any kind of laws about it. Why are some guns banned and some aren't? What is the difference then.

None if which would have done a single thing to prevent a single one of any of the recent acts of violence committed by mad men.

You think all those measures wouldn't help weed out insane people like your fellow nudist above having guns? Insane people can't jump through all those hoops. You think all those measures wouldn't stop people in some dark mindset for a couple weeks from obtaining a gun and carrying out some moment of insanity. You know damn well you can just go to a gun show and take home guns as easily and way faster than going out to a car lot and taking a car home today.

Why are you so against responsibility. Are you afraid you wont pass the tests? Has the government come and taken your car because it's registered? No and No. So why are you so against a responsible gun system? People like you are what is wrong with society. If guns dont make it easier for these people to go on a spree killing then why don't they use knives or clubs nudiepants? Answer the question, or you can ignore it because you have no answer that doesn't make you look stupid.

As far as your strawman argument goes, if you want to "cure" a heroin junkie, you get him into a treatment program. You don't remove the substance, because you can't. He'll always be able to get it if he wants it badly enough. You remove the desire for it. Give any other answer and you're just fooling yourself

Oh you mean that they have heroin for the junkies in the treatment program? And the the treatment program is just a bunch of people convincing the junkie to not take heroin? LOL a treatment program forces the junkie to get clean and go through the withdrawals by taking the heroin away...

You can't remove the desire for people to commit violence. That's the thing nudiepants. You can't do that. There is no answer for that. You CAN remove a tool that makes it easy for people to kill a bunch of innocent people though.

The way you think is so stupid. It's like having two children in a room and one of them keeps hitting the other with a stick... Instead of taking the stick away so the victim stops getting their head split open your solution is remove the desire for the kid hitting the other with a stick but you have no way of actually removing that desire. Your solution is to basically do nothing. That or give the other kid a stick too right? So they can both fuck each other up. But then one kid gets a bigger stick so the other kid needs a bigger stick and on and on and on. When you could have just taken the stick away to begin with THEN try and figure out how to remove the desire for violence. Your solution is backwards.

All because you enjoy your little man's hobby of shooting. I get it you need to feel powerful somehow. But when does common sense and the wake of despair left behind after these senseless mass murders outweigh your love for your hobby?

In any event, the discussion her should not be about gun control, knife control, club control, or car control. The discussion should be about society. How did society fail the victims of this madman?

As a society we failed the victims because we refuse to do anything about making it easy for madmen to kill them. You can't rid the country of madness, misogyny and violence with the stroke of a pen but you can rid the country of insane people having guns by having registries in place, having mandatory classes, extensive testing and extended wait periods for guns.

When a junkie has a problem with heroin the first thing people around them do if they want him to get clean is take away the heroin. If you ask the junkie the first thing he will say is that the heroin isn't the problem, he'll say trying to get more and more heroin is the problem. You ask a gun nut like yourself the same question and the last thing you believe anyone can ever do to stop gun violence is to regulate guns in a serious way.

On a side note, It did make me laugh that there is more than one gun nut nudist in this thread. Where does a nudist conceal his gun anyway?

We are also talking about a relatively SMALL...ILAND nation. And, a nation wih many OTHER laws that differ from our own. (PC don't fly there. SO, how many of THOSE do you want to propose?)

So your answer is because they are an island nation and "other" laws. What are the other laws? And it's not that small its similar to the size of california in population.

Oh Ok now I get ya. No He would not (or SHOULD NOT) have been sold a gun HERE IF he had been making threats at the time of purchase. In fact, sellers routinely ASK, "You don't intend to shot anyone with this gun do you?"

LOL Jim Bob asks Hoyt Clyde "you aint's gonna be shootin' no one is you?" at the time of purchase. Well then, how thorough.

One insult following another with you and your friend up there and she wonders WHY I talk down to the two of you. She starts off with the idea that anyone and everyone who owns a firearm is an ignorant, moronic fool and then gets insulted when I treat her Pollyana thinking as imbecilic?

I would never feel talked down to by someone moronic... But you aren't really proving her wrong.

Oh and Felix, a firearm owner with a concealed carry permit is already held liable for any harm his or her rounds may do whether or not they hit the intended target.

It's impossible to know how many people have guns since there is no registry... But it's estimated there are over 250 million guns. Of all those millions how many of those gun owners have a concealed weapons permit? The fact that you are using that as any kind of argument is ridiculous.

A registry isn't so Obama can come take your guns. It's for making sure guns stay in the hands of the original owner. Cops can use it to see how many guns are in a home before they enter it. You don't think that is a useful piece of information for them? Where do you think black market guns come from? Do you think they grow on trees? They are made here, they fall off a truck here, they are stolen here, they are given away here. All of them were legal at one point. Since there is no registry it's all too easy to lose track of a gun. Just the fact that they are so easy to obtain has companies making more and more guns. Black market guns aren't being made by criminals here in the US. Maybe in the Philippines but here in the US all those black market guns are just guns that were legal at one point.

I only asked because I thought that in the Waco siege there was a lot of legally owned weapons like that, not tanks though.
AK 47's an Uzi's are legal aren't they? They are assault weapons, not weapons of defence!
Your idea of passing a test seemed to me like a sensible one. Maybe add that insurance is mandatory, like with cars.

Yeah but they can't be fully automatic. BUT you can purchase one legally, take it home and convert it to full auto if you want.

The insurance is a good idea actually in case some dumbass misses his target or fires it by mistake and hits you. They should have to cover all your medical bills.

Now this is a serious question, I know little about how much the law allows in the US.
Is it legal to own hand grenades, rocket launchers, bazookas or tanks? How far can you go over there, where is the line drawn?

I'm pretty sure you can't own any of that except maybe a grenade in some states. I'm sure one of the gun nuts knows all the loop holes and exactly what you need to do to get a grenade. You can probably have a tank actually but without artillery shells and shit like that. It's just a vehicle without the ammunition.

Do you do ANY thinking before you type? No actual police force? Who do you think enforced the laws that WERE in existence? The fairy god mother? Whether you call them police or militia or city guard or whatever, police have existed in some form from the beginnings of civilization! Native American tribes had "police" in the form of "shirt wearers" who enforced tribal laws! And, yes, to those of you who have never been to locales where unarmed people were at the mercy of anyone who DID have a gun I guess it might seem "paranoid and silly". Just as it might to those who have never been held up by an armed robber. (Yes, as a teenager.) Nor, have a clue what a fight to the death IS. (Again, YES!) FYI this nation has NEVER been "safe"! It has always been a dangerous place to live as is ANY society! WHY? Because, butcherous cowards who prey upon the weak, helpless and DEFENSELESS have ALWAYS existed and still do! Prostitution may be the oldest profession but crime is as old as mankind. Silly? What is SILLY is the Pollyana notion that by passing a law or two you can some how legislate ANYTHING out of existence. IF such were the case there would be no: drugs, prostitution or crime. The last time I looked our nation was filled with prisons so over crowded that they REGULARLY discharge animals back into our midst after they have served only a fraction of the sentence they were given.
Oh, and as to your assumption that you are far and away more intelligent than men like Jefferson and Franklin (whom you obviously regard as being mere bumpkins by comparison as they didn't live in this technologically advanced age... laughing6

Militia aren't a police force. When the constitution was written we were a baby nation without many things like a police force. In those times it was also possible for all the men of this new nation to grab their musket and fight off the British if they returned because we didn't have a military like we have now. It's fairly simple to understand.

Oh, and as to your assumption that you are far and away more intelligent than men like Jefferson and Franklin (whom you obviously regard as being mere bumpkins by comparison as they didn't live in this technologically advanced age... laughing6

Where did I say that? Like seriously. If you can't even comprehend what you are reading how can you be expected to comprehend a situation where guns are involved. That is what is scary. Dumb ass people with guns.

Can you explain why Japan has virtually no gun murders. They have a total ban on guns and they seriously enforce it. Can you explain why the criminals aren't running around shooting everyone there? Japan has one of the most violent histories of any nation by the way so don't say some racist shit like it's because of their culture or they are a gentle respectful people or some bullshit.

How can you function in society with the kind of paranoid delusions you obviously suffer from? There are mental health programs that you can access, people who can offer counseling and therapy. Please seek help. You don't have to go through life suffering from delusions and psychosis.

Everything you have said here is nonsense and lies. A rational person would recognize that immediately. The fact that you not only take it for truth but are actually confident enough in the truth of your position to post about it in public is very telling. I hope you have family and friends who you can rely on, tell them about your fantasy view of life and ask them to help you find help.

AND he probably owns a bunch of guns... But I guess asking someone like him to take a few tests and classes where his obvious psychosis can be caught before he acquires a bunch of guns is unconstitutional.

While I could stoop to your level (and that of Felix) I will instead suggest that you two mensa candidates have a little chat with some of the members here who reside in Australia. ( Because YES FELIX their gun laws ARE worse than the UK! As are those of Chicago, I live downstate but we KNOW what their laws are and want NO part of having them imposed on the remainder of the state THANK YOU!) I'll let THEM explain to you that when guns are turned in by law abiding citizens (who have FIRST been sold the bill of goods that "we only want to register them. " REALLY? For WHAT? Do they expect those guns to VOTE? OR, do they want to know where to go to gather them up? ) ONLY THE CRIMINALS THERE NOW HAVE GUNS! As a result everyone else is at the mercy of people WHO HAVE NONE! Just like the Vietnamese villagers who were helpless and could not protect themselves NOR could the government protect them! Speak to what you KNOW! I do! Oh wait, that wouldn't leave you much to say now would it?
"Protect our way of life"? SERIOUSLY? READ some history! Hitler, the Bolsheviks and Chairman Mao had one thing in common... the FIRST thing they did was disarm the populace! Pardon me, BUT; the last time I looked a "workers paradise" (like North Korea) wasn't "our way of life'! Totalitarian regimes exist because government has rendered the populace helpless to resist. This nation's founding fathers were well aware of that and trusted NO government...not even the one they were establishing! That is WHY the Bill of Rights was written in the first place! d'oh!

Oh and the "black hole" exists in the minds of those who EXPECT criminals TO obey laws! THINK with your HEAD, the emotions were never designed or intended for that purpose.

Oh you mean you need your guns so you can fight the government so it doesn't become fascist one day. My bad.

- As this thread gets more replies you all can see how paranoid and silly the gun nuts sound. Registering a gun like a car equals Nazi Germany to them and of course they think they can take down the government when it comes to that. They also will talk about the constitution like there have never been any amendments or like it wasn't written in the time of muskets and canons and when we had no actual police force. -

If you get your information from Main Stream Media, you have no idea what really happened. First, there were multiple shooter. Witnesses all tell of at least two people shooting. He was on as many as 5 drugs with 2 of them being anti psycotics. Same drugs used by ALL mass murderers. He was also under the watchful eye of doctors with direct connections to CIA mind control experiments. Also notice within hours of the shooting a father is crying on camera about the NRA and more gun control! What? I'm sorry, did this mental patient hold a firearms permit? I think NOT. This is a classic FALSE FLAG. A Psyop to manipulate the masses. Remember Sandy Hook? Tons of dead kids, but no blood, no bodies, no death certificates, no survivors. Nurse was a Spanish singer/actor with no legal nursing certificates. Shooter actually never existed. Homes all bought in cash several years prior. Dead children seen in photo with president after the shooting! 26 xmas trees for the dead children see in air photos before the event. Donation pages set up days in advance. No local abulances allowed to respond. The entire event was a made for TV SHOW!!!!!!!!

The MOST strict gun laws can be found WHERE? Chicago and Australia. The highest violent crime rates can be found WHERE? Chicago and Australia!

Chicago has stricter gun laws than Japan and the UK? Are you stupid...

Australia has one of the lowest homicide rates in the world.

Oh and Felix those "ridiculous" Constitutional protections were devised by guys with no trust in government (hmmm) and who were geniuses (Thomas Jefferson did WHAT? How many inventions AND all of those famous documents?) So, pardon those of us who would prefer to keep the Constitution and Bill of Rights INTACT rather than have them ripped apart by modern vote whores!

Registering firearms once a year to make sure they are still in your possession or making people take a few tests and classes before owning one doesn't take your right to own a gun away you big fucking dummy.

- It's scary how some of the dumbest people who can't even comprehend what they are reading are the ones with guns. It's bizarre how this idiot weavindreams thinks that having a better more responsible system for gun ownership is ripping the constitution apart -

I hear a lot of people saying "someone should have known he was about to go nuts because of his social media posts and done something". Who is to say that the next Elliot Rodger isn't one of those despicable people posting their support for him on Twitter? Shouldn't they *all* be followed up on and checked out?

Too bad we can't do that. Like we just don't have the manpower or resources that that would take. Would be nice if we could.

Aside from the cultural education component and more awareness about mental illness (and I'm talking about narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, psychopathy, antisocial behaviour etc), I still think that the gun culture and general availability of guns contributes to this kind of spree killing. I don't want to start another gun debate (I've done that in spades already), and yes I know someone can kill with knives or search out black market weapons 'if they really want to' - but making it so easy for anyone to load up on ammo and guns *does* impact the potential for an unstable person to see this as the ultimate solution and max the damage, thinking they are going out in a blaze of glory as some kind of hero of the underdogs. And - the vile support these people get from other social misfits just makes me absolutely sick and shows just how deep the decay and cultural pathology is growing.

Anyone who says that guns don't contribute to spree killings is in total denial. If they don't contribute then why don't any of these people choose to use knives? Why do they always use guns? Because guns make it easier to kill.

The fact that people in America get all up in arms about any kind of step toward gun legislation is really bizarre. Its crazy that a car rental place won't even rent someone a car unless they are 25 but this kid can buy a bunch of guns at 22. Because we all know what great decisions 22 year olds make.

Why can't there be a department of firearms like there is for cars? What is so wrong about that? It's not banning guns. It's not getting rid of the second amendment. It would be a way to ensure that all the guns purchased by someone stay in their possession. Tests and training to get a license should be required just like it's required for a car since cars can be deadly. Can you imagine if we treated cars like guns? You can just go buy one without a license or any experience. Can you imagine all the accidents on the roads. But no... The pro-gun Americans think that is somehow unconstitutional. It's ridiculous.

Magical_Felix, you wrote this... "Would you be able to kill as many targets with a knife as you can with your glock in the little time you have to do it?"

I don't know. In the Chinese incident, there were 46 casualties, all inflicted with a knife. I do know that I would much rather take on someone wielding a gun than someone wielding a knife. Look at the Giffords shooting. That guy was disarmed by being tackled, including by one man who did have a pistol on his own person. Someone with a knife is by far more difficult to take out without being injured oneself than is someone with a pistol.

Are you sure there were 46 dead in a mass stabbing in china? I see where there were 6... I see another incident where a guy stabbed over 20 but they all survived. I see another where 29 died but that was a coordinated attack by at least four men who were actual militants. The chinese government suspects a Muslim separatist group is behind the stabbings but can't prove it.

As for a guy with a knife being more dangerous than a guy with a gun... I don't know... I think I'd rather fight a guy that was pointing a knife at me instead of a gun. By your rational we should just give our soldiers swords... I wonder if there is a police officer here that can answer wether he'd rather have to taser a guy with a knife or a guy with a gun. I would suspect he'd chose the guy with the knife.

She married him because her family wanted her to marry him. They like him much more than they like me. But she sticks up for me fiercely.

Is her family's last name Van Helsing?

Some people are blaming women. How? That's crazy. How is a woman to blame? If a woman doesn't have the right to say no, then what rights does she have? Others say it's the guns. Others, still, say guns don't kill people...people kill people.

What we have done is we have created a society that grabs for the instant gratification, that wants to hang with the beautiful people (whoever you view the "beautiful people" to be), that does not want to be held responsible for what they do and furthermore, doesn't think they should be held responsible for what they have done. The Peoples Court and Judge Judy are taking it to the bank...cases so ridiculous they should never see the the inside of a court room. Just a bunch of irresponsible people trying to weasel their way out of responsibility.

But this is about murder.

How to deal with it all? Who knows. I sure don't have the answer. But i don't think the 2nd Amendment has done us any favors in this regard. An irresponsible and fucked up society should NOT have free access to weapons. But we do.

I felt so sorry for the fathers of one of the victims. He was broken because of this self-centered lunatic. He lost his boy and was crying...questioning how many more have to die before something is done. Well, I feel for him, his pain and his broken spirit. But honestly...if losing 26 children and teachers at Sandy Hook wasn't enough to change the culture in this "experiment" they call democracy...nothing will. Especially, not a whacked out dude from California.

May all the victims rest in peace and may the murderer rot in Hell.

And one last all men who are blaming women for what this guy has done...would you feel the same if it was a gay man who killed cuz he couldn't get laid? try that one on for size you you bunch of fucks! All those tweets and other postings from men hanging this on women cuz they wouldn't fuck the guy. What if he was gay and couldn't get his "piece of ass"?

Bend over gentlemen...or get on your knees and open wide! Now how do you feel about once a month "charity fucks"?

Excellent points.

Do you think he was just some whacked out guy or do you think our whole society has been warped? Like the way we raise girls and boys. The way we teach girls to protect their drinks in clubs, to not walk alone, to cover up etc instead of teaching boys not to rape, not to hurt women, that women aren't something they are entitled to just by treating them normally. And do you think that has something to do with it, that that itself is what made him "whacked out" or do you think people like this will eventually do something like this regardless?

In your world, sexual harassment at your office is probably a daily occurrence too, and expected.

In the corporate world Pussycat, everyone fetches their own stuff.

In sole proprietorships where you excel, you, as the boss and ruler of your universe - can pretty much tell people to go jump in a lake and they gotta do it if they want a paycheck.

In your universe nobody should even look at you oddly, or you'll have them out the door and on their ass faster than they could bark, "sorry, boss'. And then you'd deny them unemployment insurance...but knowing you - you probably work 'em just enough hours where they can't qualify for it anyway and as for benefits... heheh, they get 31 hours a week and they're paid in cash - that's their benefit.

It really couldn't be any easier to wind you up laughing8

I don't know, but obviously there is something wrong in this country. Instead of making them famous like Ted Bundy, just don't report it. Although, if someone doesn't, someone else will. So maybe there is a big part of the problem there, so it's gonna get air time no matter what. Maybe if the news stations shut down, that alone would cut this kind of thing down. I really couldn't say why this keeps happening, because I'm not in their mind. Maybe we should try to invent something so you can enter someone's mind. You can at least see what they were thinking, and see what the person was going through before it happened. Just a suggestion.

Like on Minority Report? Might be pure Sci-Fi fantasy that.

The parents and a counsellor of this kid did report his behavior to the authorities because they were worried he'd do something like this. Can anything really be done when no crime has happened? Should the guns have been taken away from him at least? Is there enough money to have a cop trail these individuals that raise concerns but haven't done anything yet? I would say no, there isn't enough money for that.

Some people might consider certain themes in your writing or mine as alarming. They might think we should be watched.

The psychiatrist on CNN made a few good points about them fantasizing about their celebrity that would follow their violence. What if the media refused to publish their name or picture? I don't know. Who really knows?

I think it's impossible to hide the identity really. The media will report it because it's news. Even if they chose not to publish the name and picture it would find it's way to the internet anyway.

But we know that spree killing is not exclusive to the USA. We've seen it recently in Norway and China, and what about the genocide in Africa and in the not distant past in Europe (old Yugoslavia)? And not to mention the constant mass terrorist killings that come from the Middle East. What the hell is wrong with people?

The killings in those countries are political or terrorism or some perceived cause. It is not quite the same as the spree killings here in America.

The recent one in China though was very much like Sandyhook. The guy in China managed to kill 7 and the guy at Sandyhook killed 20. Do you know what the difference between the two countries was?

400 rounds of ammunition really is not much at all. I have many more times that, right now.

Why would someone in an affluent town in Southern California need three handguns and 400 rounds of ammunition for self defense? Is he gonna fight off an army before the police arrive? For how long?

Can you tell me the last time having that many rounds of ammunition saved someone from a home invasion? Certainly that would make the news. How about how many times that amount of ammunition was used for evil, like a spree killing?
