There were festivals celebrated around the Solstice and in the late Fall long before there was a Christmas. Christmas even nicked bits from some of them. Further, Christmas has become secularized enough that one can enjoy the celebration without ever mentioning Jesus. The decorations, presents, family dinners, and so on have little to do with Jesus and a lot to do with just getting together and celebrating being together.

For me, there is still spiritual meaning to the season even if I stopped calling myself a "Christian" a long time ago (what I am is complicated and in flux). I will even go to Christian services on Christmas Eve without the slightest intent of being ironic. The story of hope for "Peace on Earth, Goodwill among men" born in simple surroundings is a resonant one and fits nicely with other festivals celebrating the coming of light into the darkness of the winter.

I'm a farmer myself and most of my life revolves around harvest. Christmas and Thanksgiving are just harvest festivals. It's no coincidence that they take place when farmers/growers/agriculturalists/botanists are less busy and enjoying the literal fruits of their labor. You don't need to be religious to celebrate those days. In fact, it's religion that stole them and consumerism/capitalism that perverted them.

TheAngryishLover,

Yes, you're a troll. But, I'm deplorable like Trump in my compulsion to respond to disgusting people who are full of shit and unfairly disparage others.

i have no mercy for bullies - most all bullies are grossly inadequate in one way or another. Since you are being a snob, we'd probably be safe to presume that you are insecure about your intellect.

Unlike the sincere and polite forum member who you've been insulting and attacking, I DO take offense. You're a bully - and like we see from many slithering democrats, you are projecting - I mean PROJECTING your ass off. I haven't seen you put forth a single bit of evidence to back any of your hateful statements about Trump.

I'll respond to a couple statements you've made just to shut you up, otherwise, you're not smart enough... if I were to go back and forth with you, then LeBron James might as well challenge Michelle Obama to some one on one.

Islam is not a race. If anything I'd be a bigot for mentioning Muslims, or more likely, someone who is bothered by the behavior we've seen coming from Muslims who have flooded into European countries, and don't want such assaults and rape happening to my family and neighbors.

Donald Trump has about thirty specific policy and action items that he spelled out in every single campaign speech - in the weeks or probably months prior to the election. Every speech is on youtube. Are you too lazy to listen to one speech before making statements about how "Donald Trump will not create jobs for middle America," or about how his campaign had no substance and just stoked people's racism? You do realize that everything you are saying about Trump - you are saying to over sixteen million Americans who supported him? Do you think there are 15 million white supremacists in America boss?

I get it. Like many who are now finding themselves with no clothes, you are scared. But it isn't for what Trump might do. You are scared because Trump's victory is making you honest... Our historical victory has signaled the end to the political correctness that your kind has weaponized. You are use to winning without arguments - convincing without facts. You are caught in a corner and frantically shooting out buzzwords like "racism," and " white supremacist." Well guess what? Fuck you, it's' over, nobody cares - your bullshit has been exposed, is now impotent and ineffective.

If I were you, I'd start looking around for facts and truth, and learn how to deliver honest, articulate, reasonable arguments. Because, you'll no longer be winning with dishonesty and tricky leftist attack language.

Shame on you. Thank god Trump won. So beautiful to watch progressive ideas and dishonest tac tics dying..

Dude... this is the best. Wether it's a troll or not. Look at it. Dude, read it seriously. If hes not serious, it's funny as hell... if it's serious then it's mind-blowing. It's pretty retarded either way.. Totally retarded, but you know that, poor souls reading this, you know that.

I know that, you know that, but....I'm just trying to get a Trump supporter to be honest! Because either a Trump supporter is genuinely racist (amongst other stuff), or have decided that they can live with it so long as he 'makes America great again' (whatever the fuck that actually means. As you rightly say, no one actually knows what his first year will actually look like because the 'liberal media' forgot to actually ask him what his policies were).

But they don't. Talk to a Trump supporter about Trumps' links, support and hiring of White Supremacist, and they will immediately put up a smoke screen and talk about ANYTHING else other than his blatant racism. As if they've genuinely convinced themselves that he never said any of that stuff. That it's just media lies ('media lies' has seemingly become a term where people point out that Trump stood up, in front of a camera, and said the things that he did).

Good luck dude.

It's a big stupid vortex you really don't want any part of.

Dude, remind Ruthie you wear bifocals so depending on your angle the font size changes, duh. how can she be so ignorant? (Ruthie... shame) It's not cool dude and it borders on harassment. And I'm pronouncing it hair-es-ment, so you know I'm serious.

Trump can appoint whoever the hell he wants. At least he's not appointing Muslims with ties to the Islamic Brotherhood.

You lost - now step aside, shut your mouths, and let patriots get to work.

Yeah, shut your mouths libtards! Let the patriots do the thinking!

I didn't insinuate you were a white supremacist at all, I've clearly made the point (over my last few posts) that you are wilfully ignoring what it is he has done or said (IE you are option B), and I made that observation because you absolutely refuse, even with direct questions, to discuss the fact that he both appeals to white supremacists, and also has hired them into top government jobs.

Donald Trump will not create jobs for middle America. Robots were taking over most of their jobs well before the Chinese did- but that's beside my point. My questions are based on the fact that I can't understand how someone like him was allowed to get into the White House (at all, let alone as the actual President), without a lot of otherwise clever people either ignoring his hate based rhetoric, or deciding that they just didn't care enough.

Did you ignore it, or did you not care?

First of all, you're talking to an unstable person... but I think what she is trying to say is that the end justifies the means. We don't know what the end is yet though (only what the promised end is) so the means and the willingness to accept the means by people like simmerdownchick frustrate people like yourself. Trump's first year will be very interesting... if he can stop getting into twitter wars about dumb shit that doesn't matter that is. The president elect tweets a dozen times a day, erases his own tweets and argues with people criticizing him in the media. It's beyond ridiculous. I imagine an advisor trying to talk to him about important shit and trump putting up his finger to silence them because he has to finish his tweet roasting Alec Baldwin lol.

I'm not going to get into an argument with you about this, because you are just trying to back me into a corner.

Clearly someone has way too much fucking time on his hands to ask such a stupid ass question.

BTW... to be picked for a jury, you must be a "documented" in some way. They use voter and DMV (or BMV) registration to pull from the pool. Since undocumented immigrants cannot register to vote and except in California have a drivers license (and those are marked as such), your last choice is worthless and your whole question is pointless.

All of your options in the United States is unreal. Any good defense lawyer wouldn't allow any of those options to ever happen. Plus, the odds of getting 12 (plus alternates) people with the exact same demographics is nearly impossible.

Taking the question literally is pretty stupid too though.

It's sexist because you're taking a picture from her chosen profession and using it to belittle, demean, and imply that she's unworthy of First Lady status because she "looks like a hooker". You're not just saying she looks like a hooker, you're implying that since she looks like a hooker, she's unfit to be ladylike enough to be in the White House. You're placing value on her because of scantily clad outfit.

I think it's more like when she stands next to Trump that she looks like a high end prostitute. It reminds me of Vegas and pointing out which guys are paying their lady friends by the hour. It's like the slug bug game but with hookers.

You guys do realize he's not going to do anything he said he was going to do, right?

Hillary won't go to prison.
Mexico won't pay for a wall.
There won't be a task force busting down doors rounding up illegals.
He won't get rid of NAFTA.
He won't ban muslims from entering the country.

Maybe...just maybe, he might dismantle the affordable health care act and replace it with... well, nothing.

He'll probably just ease into the same ol' GOP default policies. I just hope he lowers taxes, gives employers a break and doesn't invade the wrong country or something like that.

In business this is what we refer to as 'locus of control'.

If you have an internal locus of control you feel that you are the reason for your issues and that, therefor, you have control and can change them. Improve things. If you have an external locus of control you feel that others are the reason for your issues and that, therefor, you have little to no control and cannot change them. Cannot improve things.

If you cannot find a single job - and you want to blame everyone else as if everyone else thinks and acts the same like they're in some hive-mind - you have an external locus of control and need to work on that. Be real, quit lying to yourself, and figure yourself out in a real way.

And until she addresses her ACTUAL problems - like mannerism and appearance during an interview, resume presentation, etc - she's going to continue to have the problem, do nothing because she wants to blame everyone else but herself in a 'victimizing the self' mentality.

This is one of the best direct questions a person can ask of anybody... Nobody does though. not in a direct way. And definitely not worded like that. Because even the dumbest people will lie about it. You might as well have a face up poker night, lol. "Business", to go along with your fantasy world, is chess, not checkers. It's poker actually, but that's not checkers either. Lol can you imagine in actual "business" people saying "locus of control" you'd sound like such a fucking greenhorn.

It was funny when you said "in business". You should have said "in school".

I love the Lush community, people here can voice their concerns and their political affiliation without being ridiculed. In one forum one man suggested dividing the country into red/blue states and that the red states produce 90% of the fuel and food for the USA. Where would you want to live? I found this posting to be very disheartening and disturbing for the country as a whole. I wish there could be more of a working congress, one that benefits all Americans.

Take out the Monsanto frankencorn and the fast food beef farms that kill Americans slowly and expensively then post what the real percentage of "food" the red states produce. Lol

Since you won't be able to purchase alcohol on election day, I'd stock up on some Tanqueray & Schweppes, have some fresh veggies & fruits on hand & call up my main squeeze and spend the day with someone you love to shag.

The hell with voting for anyone at the top of the tickets this year. Get out early of the morning and enjoy selecting your state and local candidates, but let other people assume the blame for Clinton or Trump.

Go home before noon and fuck the pain away.

Your plan is to get drunk, eat a carrot then fuck your couch on Election Day?
