Mate. This is super weak by your standards. Fell flat actually. There’s a difference between say, disliking American political and foreign policy (and who can really blame them given an unending war that’s created several splinter terror groups and the election of a blubbering con man with xenophob and sexist ideas) and enjoying certain pop-culture touchstones such as music, film, and art. The two aren’t mutually exclusive and show the ability of a human to rationally discern the good from the bad.

Who’s eating up “our” music though. That’s one thing I’d say now has so many global influences it no longer really belongs to one country unless we are talking unchanged tribal music and the like.

Thank you for the compliment.

But, if I may, falling flat means no one cares right? I can’t post a thought without you guys getting offended or whining about something.

Look, you can’t sit here and say America has a great ass and tits and in the same breath call us a bitch and expect us to be like oh you haha no worries.

I swear these threads are devolving more and more quickly.

This was about television!!! I figured it'd be safe to wade in.

Now, 3 pages in, all we have is gun porn, Canadian-bashing, whether "latino" is offensive, and all the standard name-calling. Sometimes I wonder if the Think Tank is mostly composed of bots programmed to argue with each other.

Why are you always such a pussy... seriously. Stop crying, damn.

Opportunistic in an extreme predatory sense.

That’s rich coming from you. Obviously you’re very very very non threatening, but you think you are. That’s why it’s rich. You’re like a broke dick toothless dog. But your instinct is still to bite, so you’re a hypocrite.

Just look at the music, the most popular pop songs have a strong South American influence. Also my bad I didn’t know ‘latino’ was offensive. I’m just saying, they want to deport people why playing shit like Despacito and Havana on loop. That’s not even mentioning the fashion etc.

That’s Puerto Rican. That doesn’t count. Not South American btw... Puerto Rico is an American territory. I’d be willing to bet that song was recorded in New York or something. More Puerto Ricans in the US than PR.

America is in a unique position that our vast immigrant populations can fuel media that seems like it’s not from America. It's what make's us strong really.

I wonder if I’d around the same reason why Americans love Latino culture yet want to deport immigrants. dontknow

They love Latino (a questionable word by the most sensitive) but they love Latino culture how?

Weird for the average non-American. No question of that. But out of character for that particular non-American? Surely, you jest!

Step back for a moment and consider the average non-British Lush member posting an involved thread ripping British society up one side and down the other solely based on "Fawlty Towers" and "Are You Being Served".

You'd consider him just a bit CDO* if not "straight 'round the bloody bend."

*CDO: Like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) but with the letters put in the correct alphabetical order where they belong.

Shut the fuck seax.

I am not very familiar with the show 'Roseanne'. Didn't she do a horrible rendition of the national anthem at a ball game once that made the entire stadium 'boo' her? I don't know much about her.

The only shows on Damon's list that I know much about are Seinfeld and Frasier. My parents watched those shows as I was growing up. I've really enjoyed watching Seinfeld over and over in syndication.

I like how they hired a vulgar comedian to “sing” the national anthem and were shocked when she tried to make it funny.

It’s like hiring Steven Wright as a color commentator and then being shocked when he brings the energy to a crawl.

People are so stupid.

You're really scraping the bottom of the nationalist barrel now huh? Congratulations. You've now managed to delve into Seax territory when it comes to nationalistic ignorance. Congratulations again on taking what was intended as joke post and trying to paint it as an attack on America.

Seeker already explained that our two countries share 99% of our pop culture, but I find it disappointing that you even need such clarification in the first place.

Either you are a lot more ignorant than I assumed or you are just trying to pick a fight. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest it's probably mix of both. If you find it "weird" that I watched the same TV shows as the people that lived 30 minutes away from me in the 1990's... then you are showing your true intellectual colors. (Psst... I spelled "colours" the American way just so you won't get confused.)

"Gee? I wonder how people in Belfast know anything about Irish televisions shows....?" dontknow

As to your inquiry, yes, I have seen all the aforementioned sitcoms. (Huge Seinfeld fan by the way).

Of all the stupid topics you chose to engage me on, this was your pick?

Maybe in the future, if you want to use the whole "Canada" thing as an insult tactic you might want to learn at least something before cementing your role as Seax Jr in the forums and reinforcing the whole "ignorant American" stereotype.

In the meantime... I'll stay in my lane only make Canadian pop culture references. Stay tuned for my next thread on Degrassi...

https://upload.lushstories.com/784097562-degrassi.jpg

I’m just saying that there’s something fucky about someone who obviously harbors a lot of contempt for the US to also be so in love with it’s culture. It’s weird.

I just seems that there’s a lot of non-Americans who hate us but can’t wait to go watch the new avengers movie. The world eats up our culture, our culture... our music, our TV, our movies... yet, they hate us.

Did you?

Anyway, I'd have to put some time into that, that I don't have right now. But I'm sure i could come up with 8 for either the US or UK. And perhaps Germany and Belgium as well even.

Yeah I did, you acting stupid is your own deal, have fun with that.

And don't bother, you goggling 8 shows and reading a synopsis on them to regurgitate here isn't very interesting or meaningful.

It was a separate paragraph in Jack's post that I responded to.

She is implying that the picture you tried to paint was disingenuous. I'm pretty sure she realizes it was a "separate paragraph" since she pretty much stated that in her response to you. You're being extra willfully ignorant. More so than is the norm for you.

I just mentioned 10, though The Kingdom is not 30 years old yet. But you asked for at least 2 decades old.

I asked for 8 30 year old shows from a single country.

Look, you know and I know what I'm getting at. Don't make yourself look stupid.

About half of the list DamienX posted (Fresh Prince, ALF, Seinfeld and Frasier). Home Improvement was on here as well.

Danish: The Kingdom (Riget)
German: Derrick, Der Alte
Swedish: Pippi Longstocking (in Dutch 'Pippi Langkous', was dubbed in Dutch as it's a children's program)
Belgian: Merlina
British: Monty Python and a whole bunch more, but since I can't say for sure whether I saw them on Dutch television or on the BBC I'll leave them out

Most television shows on Dutch tv, apart from news, debate shows and quizzes, are probably foreign.

So you haven’t watched 8 30 year old shows from another single country. That’s what you’re saying?

Topic Three Cheers for the New Roseanne!!
Posted 31 Mar 2018 02:23

Why is it weird to watch shows from another country? I'd say it's weird to only watch shows from one's own country.

Okay... what 8 shows from another country have you watched? With the caveat that they be not from the last two decades?

Topic Three Cheers for the New Roseanne!!
Posted 31 Mar 2018 01:38

What I find fascinating is someone being an expert on the TV programming of another country that is 3 decades old. Think about that. What does it mean?

.........what does it mean?

Can you imagine, let’s say, a French person detailing the TV of Spain from 30 years ago with this amount of detail? Or like a Bulgarian detailing the 30 year old TV of Romania like this? Let’s imagine a Swede going off on the ancient TV of Denmark with this amount of detail and disdain ... It’s a little weird right? Like really, what does it mean?

I really do find this kind of stuff facinating. Countries often criticize America for being self centered... but those same countries insist on putting us on a pedastal and then get upset when we aren’t perfect.

So many experts on American society and culture.

Like, Did DamonX watch all these series? Did he watch them when they aired? Just recently? Or what? Kinda weird for a non American either way.

How many threads are there about Canadian TV?

It really is strange to me.

Is it flattery, jealousy, hatefulness, unrequited love, boredom or what?

Dude, are you just mad because I totally owned your ass in that other thread?

Poor you, seems like your 'brevity' even fails at evacuating your frustrations satisfactorily.

And since I'm starting to believe that you're genuinely dense rather than just playing a dense character, let me explain it to you. 'Jack and Coke' is quite literally a mixology colloquialism which is used much more often than 'Bourbon and Coke' or any other insignificant drink that you came up with. If I was in a restaurant and I'd like to order a 'fish and chips' with mashed potatoes instead of fries, I wouldn't be dumb enough to call a 'fish and mashed potatoes'; I'd call a 'fish and chips' with mashed potatoes. Arguably a 'Makers and Coke' or 'Bulleit and Coke' is still a 'Jack and Coke' mixed with a different whiskey, and I personally much prefer my own 'Jack and Coke' with the original Jack Daniel's. Simple enough?

Hopefully one day you'll understand the subtleties of language and break out of your handicapping stupidity brevity. thumbup

Jack and Coke is a staple cocktail while other Bourbon and Coke variations really aren't though.

So yeah, Jack and Coke is pretty much the gold-standard of Bourbon and Coke (and the one I prefer to mix).

I too use both Jack Daniel's and bourbon interchangeably in cocktails, but for some reason I've always preferred using Jack Daniel's in a proper Jack and Coke. It's mostly a superstitious preference just to remain 100% true to the drink (although Bourbon and Coke is a perfectly valid drink too), but when the summer arrives and I tend to drink highballs more regularly to quench my thirst, I usually prefer to buy Jack Daniel's to mix myself plenty of Jack and Coke.

That's like saying I like to use Maker's Mark in a proper Maker's and coke... lol you dope.

Topic Any Bourbon drinkers on Lush?
Posted 29 Mar 2018 20:06

I think of Jack Daniels as a bourbon. Bourbon itself is a whiskey. I'd bet Jack Daniels never labeled their product as a bourbon or bourbon whiskey to separate themselves for marketing reasons as you suggested and part of an Tennessee vs Kentucky rivalry.

The best way for you to decide for yourselves is to do your own taste test.

I've found you can substitute Jack Daniels in any drink mix requiring a bourbon and no one knows the difference.

Drink up!

Really.... I find Jack Daniels has an extremely distinct taste due to the charcoal filtering process. That's why you would never make an old fashioned with something like Jack. It would be like making an old fashioned with Jameson. Just doesn't taste right for actual whiskey cocktails.

Are you seriously that dense? You're at least minimally intelligent enough to realize that George Lucas doesn't actually intend to destroy entire planets as Darth Vader does, right? The ideas and affirmations emitted by fictive characters solely represent the perspective of those characters, absolutely nothing else.

Look dude, I really do appreciate your cyber-persona where you're cleverly concealing your own lack of articulateness into some kind of funny retarded character that can hardly write more than two successive coherent sentences. I seriously do, it's highly entertaining and genuinely makes me laugh every goddamn time. But please don't be absurd enough to proclaim that Shakespeare was your main source of inspiration when he was the perfect archetype of flamboyant eloquence and literary splendor, the absolute antithesis of what you stand for yourself.

You're making me curious about your reading habits though. When a friend allegedly sends you an interesting article, do you expect a persuasive multi-paragraphed text or two miserable sentences? When you reach for a fascinating book, do you grab a convoluted story of a few hundred pages or a children's book educating you about the importance of pooping hygiene? When you're educating yourself about the history of Europe, do you rely on encyclopedic volumes or are you satisfied with a shitty pamphlet announcing that the medieval fair will soon hit your town?

One day you might find that the 'brevity' that you advocate unavoidably has severe limitations…

Many European countries have had a ban on all guns for many years now.
Our gun related crime has gotten no lower in any way, as those who use guns to commit crime?
Get them anyway, illegally, and many citizens who are not allowed to have guns in their home?
Can't defend them selves by law.
The 1,000's of cases of home invasion murders using guns never gets mentioned in the world media it seems.
The answer is to protect the children in our schools.
The kids in the US think that getting rid of all guns is the answer.
It isn't...crazies will then come into their schools with machetes, knives, hatchets, and axes.
And no one will be there with a gun to protect the students.

With many of the refugees who commit crime here where I live, and can't get guns?
They use large knives, axes, hatchets instead.

There has been no significant decrease in ratio of gun related crime in any European country since they banned guns.
In many European countries, gun related crime it has gotten worse, as again,
criminals get guns anyway illegally, and common citizens can't defend themselves.
It hasn't worked, and Germany, along with many other Europeans countries are now re-evaluating our guns laws again.

Enforcing gun laws is the answer, better evaluation of those who apply for gun permits,
Don't let those who shouldn't have guns get them legally, and then crack-down on illegal guns,
with maybe some changes to the laws I agree always.

But banning guns completely on your own property is not the answer,
if that answer includes to prohibit any common, law abiding, non-felon, legal, citizen from defending their family
against crazy criminals who will use any means to rob, rape, and murder them in their own homes
We have guns legally, and we haven't gone to any school and killed anyone.
The crazies who got the guns are using them to kill, they will use any means to commit their crimes.
Them not having a gun won't stop them.
They commit the crimes and kill people, not the guns.../i]

Cool story bro

Really talking to you. I’m not trying to fuck around, I know you need some perspective. I’ll talk to you. Please, promise me you’re just relaxing. Relaxing like a guy who knows the world but isn’t acting on your annoyance of it. Just chill bud. The world ISNT against you. Just relax and think about what’s pissing you off. You’ll find it’s not that serious. Think about it, and it’s really not that big a deal. Just chill, and do what makes you happy. Unless it’s killing... don’t do that.

As for the thread... this kind of shit does more damage than good. It’s a caricature of “leftist politics”. Really, being this ridiculous, sarcastic or not, does more harm because it makes the pro gun regulation sect look extremist, which it’s not. It’s stupid, frustrating and I wish it would go away.
