you continue to post in these forums and when you don't bother to either think about what the poster has said or assume you know what their intent is without asking for clarification, that is on you.

That's rich. Holy shit.

I don't fully agree with the article. In fact, I read this yesterday and was just going to ignore it and give no response. But now I'm giving a response and it's because this article came to mind earlier today.

This morning I was walking through campus (it was about 9:30 am - during class period - so very few students were walking around. I was ALMOST alone). A guy approached me (mind you, I live in the South). "Hey girl..." he jogged up to me. I smiled and said hi. He asked where a building was. I jokingly told him 'all buildings are down the path to the right...'. Anyway, we walked and talked and made a few jokes about the heat and course loads being too heavy. Casual banter.

I wasn't afraid.
I wasn't concerned.
I wasn't questioning anything about the situation - a guy walked and talked with me about college.

Meaningless pleasantries.

But, this article did come to mind while we walked and talked. Because in that situation some other woman might have been paranoid as fuck... and that made me a little sad to think that a guy just trying to find a campus building would have been looked at like a pariah just because he approach a girl instead of a guy.

So my view of the article yesterday still stands: I don't fully agree with her or her concept, here.

1)

For one, all people - all people (men and women) - must immediately assess situations on a subconscious level and determine the potential dangers and risks. This is how we stay safe in life. Everything from going to an abandoned house because it was on our potential 'buy' list to someone knocking on our car window while we're stopped at a street light.

This is a normal, healthy level of self and external awareness. Without it, we'd all die rather quickly.'

2)

Not all women think the way the woman in the article says all women think. Having been a victim of sexual violence, molestation, etc, doesn't necessarily mean a female assesses interaction with all males in such a way.

3)

The level of concern this woman has - how she describes her mind set with every male-female interaction and moment of her life - is worrisome. That is in fact unhealthy. You should not fear everyone unnecessarily. Being cautious (like how we're always looking around while we drive) is healthy. Being fearful of other vehicles because 'someone had an accident' or 'I had an accident 5 years ago' is unhealthy.

4)

If any woman - having been a victim of sexual assault or NOT - feels that extreme in the paranoia / fear department toward EVERY MAN she encounters, she needs therapy.

5)

I'll repeat #4 because It's so important: IF YOU'RE SO TERRIFIED OF MEN THAT YOU CANNOT INTERACT WITH THEM ON A NORMAL / DAILY BASIS WITHOUT BEING OVERTAKEN BY FEAR AND VISIONS OF THE EXTREME POSSIBILITIES, YOU NEED THERAPY.

Very excellent post. Glad you posted this. It's hard to post #4 as a male and not be called insensitive or the oh so clever, "you just don't get it." But all four points are very valid, realistic and level headed.

You didnt have time to do your hair and make-up?

John I strongly advise that on your next first date you lie about everything. Tell them you're rich, powerful, a former spy, 3 inches wide , your Rolex is real and that your jaguar is in the shop. Pay the waiter ahead of time to call you Mr. whatever your last name is and act like he already knows your drink order.

Your date's panties will become a blur with how fast they hit the ground.

Godspeed.

Is looking harassment?

That depends on if the onlooker is ugly... Take the Lena Dunham example. If the guy was Jason Alexander she would probably have been offended if he did check her out (the nerve to think he could get her) but since it was an athlete she got offended he didn't (the nerve to think he's too good for her).

Of course everyone is different... And it's true of guys too. I'm sure you've been at a bar and an ugly chick is talking a bunch or trying to get your attention. I think "fuck, this toad is obnoxious, please stop hitting on me." When a hot chick says the exact same thing at the same audible level and hits on me in the same way I'm like "this chick is sooooooo funny! I like her..."

not even asking them to e good to someone who does, just don't fucking RAPE them. there. that makes it easier, right? either help them out or just let them lay in the corner in a pool of vomit, but don't fucking rape them. why is that so difficult?

Because a lot of people are evil and they always will be evil and they hunt around in situations with easier prey. That's it.

that's 30+ year old Jack. i guarantee you that 20+ year old Jack would go to that freaking banging party with all the hot college chicks, the one that all the hot college chicks are going to cause it's fun. guaranTEE it.

Well, my parents didn't teach me much about being careful, I wish they had, but they didn't.

That's why I said in my first post to you that teaching little girls about certain situations that are more dangerous than others or street smarts shouldn't be confused with with telling them it's their fault if something bad happens.

And please... 30+ Jack would go to a party fulla hot college chicks too. Please.

you know, if i had the choice between being raped and having my wallet stolen, 3 guesses which i'd choose. and dude, you don't think that women who go to parties with friends don't end up getting raped too? all it takes is a couple of minutes. rape doesn't last very long. it's over in about the time it would take for a girl to disappear long enough to take a pee most of the time.

I wasn't equating rape with theft. I was illustrating what a fantasy it is to expect people to be good to somebody who passes out at a party full of strangers.

thing is, that's easy, gangster parties are obvious. as a woman, i have to assume i'm taking a chance at ANY party i go to where there will be drinking. ANY party. so, to work with your analogy.

ANY time i go parachuting, i have to assume that some evil fuck took my parachute, the one i got from a professional parachutist who packed it himself, and cut the cords on it right before i jumped and them pushed me out the door.

Maybe I am getting older and wiser. Or maybe I live in a nice area now with nice friends now. But I know for certain no raping or shooting is happening in the parties/bbqs we have in my circle of friends . Every once in a while I am invited to get-togethers by strangers or acquaintances where I will probably know few people and will probably be in a house where there appears to be no present owner and I know it will probably be fun but I have too much to lose now to risk the worst for a little fun.

AND btw, guys drink themselves unconcious all the time. you know what i do to guys who do that? get them a pillow, make sure they're somewhere safe, that they're okay, get them to drink water if they wake up, look out for them. i have never once raped a guy at a party who'd had too much to drink. not even thought about it. it's not so hard.

Well good for you but again, that's not the way the world works. The next girl might have stolen every piece of jewelry and the guy's wallet. Or a guy might rape him too. Guys rape others guys all the time.

Plus I would never go to a fucked up party by myself anyway.

going to parties is fun. i'd like to go to a party and not have to worry about being roofied and then being told it's my fault for being at the party in the first place.

That's the thing though. Last time I was at a party where shots were fired (like 10 years ago) I thought "whoa, why did I come to this party, I should have known better than to come to a fucking gangster party."

It's fun to do a lot of things. If I am going to jump out of a plane I am going to make sure I go to a proper skydiving school with professionals. I am not going to buy a parachute on ebay and jump out of some friends plane because I should be okay because the guy on ebay assured me the chute was tip top.

I don't think anyone is claiming that women should go to a frat house and drink themselves unconscious, because they should be able to without fear of being raped.

No, but that is what people are claiming. Look at sprites response to you.

for the record, most people here will tell you that i'm pretty confident, fairly tough, and able to physically defend myself. none of that mattered when i was attacked. instead of telling me how i should be and act, how about if we work on telling guys how they should be and act. once again, the onus for not being assaulted is placed on women. getting kind of sick of it.

The way things are and the way things should be are completely different things though. Of course people shouldn't be raped, murdered, mugged or anything. But in the real world that happens everyday and that will continue until the human race ceases to exist.

I would never teach someone to navigate the world by the way things should be. I would teach them to do so by how the world is.

What would you say to someone who leaves a stack of 100 dollar bills on their dashboard in the middle of a shitty neighborhood? Would you say go ahead and leave it there, people shouldn't steal from others? Or would you say, maybe you should hide that? ...of course people should teach their children not to steal but that is just not reality. Before you say that money and women aren't the same... A rapist or murderer doesn't care. That's why they are able to rape and murder in the first place. That's why you shouldn't mistake teaching street smarts and common sense to little girls with blaming them for the shitty things that happen.

It's true with everything. Literally everything from rape and murder to simple shit like your passwords. Just because people shouldn't hack other people's accounts doesn't mean you should make your password 123.

Sorry all, for hijacking a serious thread. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Oh okay. Counterpoints are hostility now.

...

Do you guys see what just happened? What just happened with verbal? I mean, I posted a counterpoint and he called me a dick and then plugged my name into his story about - the abuse of his daughters' mother - to make it humorous, a joke ... But I am the hostile and insensitive one... What a knee-slapper!

Original edit (also for effect)

This replacement works pretty well too:

"My daughters are adopted. Though they were not abused, they certainly witnessed physical abuse, of Magical Felix beating me.

It has affected one of my daughters more than the other. She was afraid of Magical Felix for over a year, and I consider it one of the greatest accomplishments in my life that I overcame that fear (somewhat) through kindness and laughter and acting like an idiot in general (I have some game in that department). Several times, when she was upset over something, my wife would put a walkie talkie next to her head and I would sing to her from another room. Because seeing Magical Felix in the room would terrify her.

She still views me through that same filter. Even me; sometimes I can sense the distance in her. I am Magical Felix she saw beating Verbal. So, it doesn't matter if you are a nice guy, or a feminist, or "just want to talk," or whatever. Magical Felix is a violent psychopath, and the actions of Magical Felix color the world of mine, and how I see Magical Felix.

Magical Felix doesn't get to say "You're being too sensitive." Because it didn't happen to Magical Felix."

Don't be a dick.

Hmmm... That is not really the same thing though. That one is about a specific person. I know you are trying to be clever but it really doesn't make sense... Like if a specific person beats you then yeah, you should be afraid of them or like avoid them at all costs.

You could also replace men with women and beating/abuse with cheating (for example) and I am also sure you wouldn't have ended it with "women don't get to say it's not okay that you are calling them all whores. Because it didn't happen to them".

My daughters are adopted. Though they were not abused, they certainly witnessed physical abuse, of their bio-Dad beating their bio-Mom.

It has affected one of my daughters more than the other. She was afraid of me for over a year, and I consider it one of the greatest accomplishments in my life that I overcame that fear (somewhat) through kindness and laughter and acting like an idiot in general (I have some game in that department). Several times, when she was upset over something, my wife would put a walkie talkie next to her head and I would sing to her from another room. Because seeing me in the room would terrify her.

She still views all men through that same filter. Even me; sometimes I can sense the distance in her. All men are the man she saw beating her biological mother. So, it doesn't matter if you are a nice guy, or a feminist, or "just want to talk," or whatever. Some men are violent psychopaths, and the actions of those men color the world of all women, and how they see all men.

And don't forget, we still live in a world where men get sentenced to three months in jail for raping a woman. Or no jail time at all because the judge thought a woman who is drunk has given away her right to say "no." Or no legal action whatsoever because the woman is too scared of public ridicule and slut-shaming to press charges.

Men don't get to say "You're being too sensitive." Because it didn't happen to you.

If you replace men with blacks/mexicans and women with whites in this I am sure you wouldn't have ended it with "Blacks and Mexicans don't get to say you're being too racist. Because it didn't happen to them".

And non-gay blowjobs as well.

Pretend I am making a voice like I'm talking to a child when you read the next two paragraphs.

And are you incapable of reading? I mean you are looking for stories to read right? Can you not tell what the stories are about? The majority of them are about gay blowjobs when you search for gay blowjobs. There are even some in other categories but tagged with gay first so you know what it is. It's pretty simple if you know how to read. You asked where to search for gay blowjob stories. I showed you.

like, if I want to find a reluctance anal story I can type those two words in and easily find one. Just like google. You know how you have to pull up your big boy pants and read the results so you can find what you want? You do the same thing with this. You read the results like you learned in school and pick the one that sounds the most like what you want to read.

Don't get so worked up Jack. I'm not trying to take away any of your 'straight privileges'. LOL. I don't care about straight being the default. It makes sense that the category that matches the sexuality of the majority of the visitors is the main one.

You're not the first person to say I'm mad or worked up when I pick apart their logic. You going to correct my spelling mistakes next?

Again, tell me where I can search for gay oral sex stories then?

Holy cow, searching for gay blowjob results in finding gay blowjob stories. Mind boggling.

I was referring to your two copies remark. On a website you don't deal with physical copies and you don't need two copies of a story/book in order to put it in two categories.
It's the combination of categories that enables you to do refined searches. What would create an overcrowded bookstore in the physical world, with pysical copies of the same title popping up at different places in the store, allows for a more fine-tuned categorizarion in the digital world.
There's no physical limit to store/display items on a website (other than disk space, but the number of stories don't multiply by the number of categories they're in) and neither does an online search require one to stroll along physical aisles of books.

For an online bookstore there's no reason to lumb together all their Spanish books when they have categories for their English books. 'Spanish' and 'English' are essentially categories on their own. So if they can combine English and Horror, why not Spanish and Horror?

You want gay stories to be in multiple categories with the straight stories because equality. It doesn't matter whether it's online or in a bookstore. You know what the point is. You still scroll through categories looking for stories. It would be a big mess if the stories were all mixed together. You know damn well people will put them in as many categories as they can just like they tag them with as many tags as they can to get more views. Your point about them being in multiple categories making refined searches more effective doesn't even make sense because it will be the same thing as the tags. It's stupid.

The only thing that makes sense is to have ten times the categories and get rid of the gay/lesbian/transsexual? (Is there a transsexual one?) etc. and put each one of those before each existing category and straight also.

So like

Gay male blowjob

Straight blowjob

Bisexual blowjob

Gender fluid blowjob

Pansexual blowjob

Nonbinary blowjob

Fucking lesbian blowjob

That would be fine if there were that many stories that would fit in those categories but there isn't. Most of the stories are straight. So you'd have ten times the categories with 90% of the stories being in the straight categories. You'd create a giant clusterfuck of categories for 10% of the stories. Then what would happen is that those categories will get even less traffic than the gay/lesbian categories did and the endless cycle of whining would begin again.

You could even replace the stories and poems links/filter/thingys on the home page with straight/gay/lesbian/bi etc and oh yeah... poems too. With the exact same categories you have now but with each orientation or whatever having their versions of the home page.

BUT GUESS WHAT?

More whining will happen because the straight category will be the default and rightly so since it's the one that gets the most traffic and most stories posted. There would be endless whining about that.

Tough titties.

LOL! Are you saying you can't read a story when I'm reading it? Because that's what you're implying with your physical bookstore metaphore.

What? The metaphor is about the spanish section being similar to the gay section in that it encompasses many categories but they are all lumped into one section because the bookstore is predominantly stocked with english books. Placing the spanish books mixed in with with the english books just makes it all a disorganized mess.

Topic Which improvements or features would you like to see added?
Posted 18 Sep 2016 11:17

Equality man! ;)

No, that's not equality. Thats a disorganized mess.

No, the site is not set up that way. Stories about men having oral sex with other men end up in the category Gay Male, or Bisexual perhaps, along with a whole bunch of stories that are not about oral sex at all. They do not end up in the Oral Sex category.

Yeah because that's gay... Why do you want to go searching through the straight oral sex category for gay stories? Seems like a pain in the ass.

It must be just as annoying for gay men who are not interested in anal sex to see a bunch of stories about anal sex clogging up the Gay Male category. With multiple categories per story you could have nice filters, where you could match stories on more than one feature, but also exclude categories from the results. E.g. Straight Sex + Anal - Poems + RR or Gay Male - Anal. It would be superduper awesome if one could then save these queries for reuse of course.

What you need is a better search engine and for gay authors to not tag every story with blowjob.

It's like at the book store. There is a section with books in Spanish. Every single category is all mixed up in it. It's just all the books they have in Spanish alphabetized by author. It takes some searching to find a genre you like because you are searching for a Spanish book in an English bookstore. It wouldn't make sense to have two copies of all the spanish books to add into all the other categories because the people who don't know spanish aren't going to buy them and the people who do know spanish aren't going to search for them through all the english books. And It would just be a huge mess if you did that with all the different languages. Not everyone reads gay on lush in the same way that not everyone reads spanish.
