Topic Is The Confederate Flag RACIST???
Posted 11 Aug 2015 15:39

My perspective is much different as I grew up on the west coast. To me, the flag was a symbol of an event from history. I never saw it as a symbol of racism. Now, what I did see as a symbol of racism was the Natzi flag and the swastika. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've heard on the news that a church, temple, or synagogue that was vandalized and the people who did the damage painted (often spray painted) the walls with a swastika.

Yet as I read the thoughts of those who shared their thoughts... I see there is so much I don't understand. Does the flag offend me personally? No. I'm more offended by young men who wear their pants & shorts below their ass & think it's stylish. Really... I don't want to see your dick unless I'm at a strip show or we're going to have sex. When I'm at the grocery story, shopping mall, or even driving along the street, put your cock away. I swear you look like you shit your pants. bootyshake

So... let's put this flag into a history museum where it can be remembered and move forward. My 2 cents

If you know that calling people yellow or red is offensive, why did you do it anyway? <--where is the joke? Looks pretty serious to me.

First off, you have a history of attacking me and causing trouble. I have on several occasions asked you to leave me alone, but you have chosen not to do so. So, since you insist this is a "serious question", I will answer it, if for nothing else, to appease you, and you alone.

I am a teacher. I teach a wide VARIETY of students who come from all over the world (no really, I have a lot of international students who have moved to the US with their families for an assortment of reasons.) When I said what I said, it was to include them all. However, I added the disclaimer to stress that in no way was I trying to be offensive to anyone, whatsoever. Yet, you decided it was an issue to raise unnecessary attention to. I guess I should have said, "All colors of the rainbow" instead. My mistake.

I took a lot of offense when you implied that I was a racist. You "claim" it weirds you out or make you suspicious when someone tries to "convince you this hard that they are not a racist." Well, I hate to break it to you, but that was not my intent. I won't say I am a racist, nor will I say I am not. I will own that there have been times that I've had to catch myself listening to those who will cite a certain behavior as being a "black thing," or a "Hispanic thing," when the truth is, it's a "kid thing." My most "challenging" student will tell you that he wasn't black in my room... he was purple because purple is my favorite color and skin color was just a matter of biology and pigmentation. It didn't define him, it was just part of who he was and what made him so beautiful. He wasn't "challenging" because he was purple (black), he was challenging because he he struggled with the grade-level material and like many kids in such a situation... he acted up to avoid doing the required work. He was the one on the last day of school who gave me a big hug and wish me a great summer too.

Does culture play a part in this? Sure. It would be foolish to think otherwise. However, culture is a complicated element, especially in today's schools. With the dynamic mix of students & families, kids who even ten or twenty years ago might not have become friends because of skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity, and race are now "thick as thieves." I have had the privilege to teach some amazing students from countries I had not heard of (partly because of the various number of times certain African countries have undergone name changes) and kids who have never left the neighborhood they grew up in. I have have worked with kids who have very limited English language skills because they are now on their second, third, or even sixth language (and I'll bet you thought ESL was English as a Second Language... this came as a shock to me as well.)

So, this long post might seem to you as my way of saying I'm not a racist and came from... how did you word it... oh yes... "out of nowhere" claim I am not a racist. My initial post did not "come out of nowhere" as you claim, it was in response to this thread that Liz had started. I did admit I had not seen the article before this and this was true. The day after I saw this, it did appear in my Facebook feed from one of my friends. I did like so many others had done before me... I had voiced my opinion and shared my personal experiences. What I did was no different than what other members have done in regards to this thread, except for those who went off the topic.

I hope this has answered your "serious question" and you will now please leave me alone & go in peace.

Of course all lives matter, but it's a time to emphasize that Black Lives Matter because things are way out of whack. It's time to put real and effective stimulus and change into the neglected and poverty ridden black communities that keep people trapped in a system that seems to be designed to keep them impoverished and under-educated. It's also time for real and serious police reform, so that police learn to 'serve and protect', to be true servants of the community. This Gestapo, military style, bully policing needs to be ended permanently.

I agree the need for some serious reform need to happen IMMEDIATELY!

What does that meme even mean? How does it apply to anything?

I was asking you a serious question but if you don't have the mental fortitude to answer, that's fine and expected.

No, you weren't asking me "a serious question". You were trying to bait me into a fight and stir shit stirthepot like you've done before in the past. It's why you made the statement about questioning me about being a racist. Maybe you said such a thing to hide your own issues. My initial post had nothing to do with you. Did you not read the Meme or can you not read English? (FYI... that's a rhetorical question.)

Now please... leave me alone and stop bothering me.

It always weirds me out (makes me suspicious) when people try to convince you this hard that they aren't racist. It's like if I went up to a woman and went on and on that I'm not a rapist... Pretty sure that woman would start to get nervous. It's just weird.

Serious question. If you know that calling people yellow or red is offensive, why did you do it anyway?

First off, this is think tank. read the description. second, this site is based around the principles of free speech and freedom of expression. third, this has nothing to do with a members "value" or their "degree of radicalism in politics. fourth, if you think it's radical to stand up for civil rights and equality, well... *shrugs* that's your right as well. if this thread offends, perhaps you shouldn't be reading it. not telling you to get lost, just thinking that there are tons of other threads that DO deal with literary talent and sexuality to peruse through. :)

I guess I missed this on the news... so I will say this. I do support a person's 1st amendment right to free speech. I have told my students this and explained how they can stand on a street corner and say they like or don't like the current president, or protest a war, or rally for "Black Lives Matter."

I may not agree with the way these ladies went about doing this... but I do support their rights.

Now... and this is not to be funny or a bitch... but I'd love to see these ladies do the same thing to Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP clown-car candidates. If they really want to get their message out... taking over a Donald Trump speech would get a lot more media attention and maybe... get more people talking.

I do agree Black Lives Matter . But I also agree that All Lives Matter. I'm not saying this because I'm white (which I am for the record)... but because I teach so many beautiful faces of all shades. I have black, brown, tan, olive, 'yellow', 'red' (I know those terms are often offensive so please know... they're not meant that way), and white faces. All are beautiful and make my classroom so much better because they have often made me see the world in new and better ways.

The thought of any of my students injured or killed breaks my heart. I want them to all grow up, get a good job/career, and bring me their children to teach (after they've got good jobs.)

Introduce the title of your story: Pretty Feet
Genre/Category: Fetish
Provide the link:

1. What first inspired you to write this particular story? The Money Talks Comp ... I wanted to write a story worthy, but different. I was getting my nails done when I was hit with the idea.

2. How did you come up with these characters? I love getting a good manicure & pedicure. I have a great nail gal, so Ciera was modeled after her. The narrator... well... I wanted a character with that unique "famous" name & I love Madonna's Vogue so I picked Rita Hayworth because, "She gave great face." As for the owner, I so often seen non-white men who own these places (black, Asian, Middle Eastern) so I just created a character for that. Even Cagaha name means "feet" in Somali. evil4

3. How does it differ from some of your other stories? My first fetish story. I think the word count limit actually helped (thank you Nicola!)

4. What was the most challenging thing about writing this piece? The foot fetish element. I've avoided this category as I'm not a fan normally, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and push myself. From the feedback I've gotten... I feel I have successfully done this.

5. Anything else you want to tell us about it? Some already know this... but this story was actually the 2nd draft. The 1st draft was lost (as was a few other pieces) due to an OS crash on my laptop. Being force to start over from scratch made me rethink my approach. I took it from a 3rd person POV to a 1st person POV. I know some readers don't like the 1st person POV, but honestly, for this story, it was the right decision. The proof was the RR and placing in the Top 10 of the Money Talks Comp & it's an honor to have this story under the Suggested tab for Fetish stories with the amazing ChrissieLecker . notworthy

My advice to everyone would be to hang on for six months and wait for all the inevitable teething problems to be sorted first.

This reminds me of when Apple rolled out it's iOS 8 for the iPads and iPhones. My school send down a DO NO UPGRADE warming so I went from September of last year (or was it October... I know it was in the 1st quarter of the school year for me) until June this year when at a training they said, "UPGRADE YOUR OS" & I got scolded for not doing it sooner. UGH! I didn't even update my personal iPad until after I did it to my work iPad. The positive was that the bulk of the "bugs" with 8 had been worked out by then.

I have no problem waiting to go from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Maybe it will be like with my iPad... by the time I upgrade my laptop, the bulk of the bugs will have been worked out.

Topic Why do men...
Posted 08 Aug 2015 21:31

I do agree with the sentiment that it's not just a male thing. Some women can be just as... immature (for lack of a better word) as some men. Both men and women can enjoy the thrill of the chase. The difference is knowing what you want & knowing who you are as a person. My own husband will tell you that when we first got together as a couple... I didn't want a commitment... just a FWB. I had been hurt in the past. Telling him I loved him was huge... even though he'd told me he loved me without hesitation.

I think Buz said it best... what is it about these men that you are attracted too? Not all bad boys become good men. And no one can change unless they are willing too do so. You can't change someone to be what you think they should become... often... the change you get isn't what you want... nor is it a change you will accept.

I know I've changed in the over seven years I've been with my husband. I know he's changed too. I do believe we have both changed for the better.

That's the key difference. We've changed and grown as a couple.

Introduce the title of your story: The Bookworm & the Surfer
Genre/Category: Straight Sex
Provide the link:

1. What first inspired you to write this particular story? I was invited by SandyMonroe to write a story for an anthology with a "song" theme. My husband suggested Summer Nights from Grease . I liked how the song was a "he said, she said" song where both told their side of a story, and it wasn't always the same story. So I took that approach with my story, shifting from one character's POV to the other and back again.

2. How did you come up with these characters? I liked the idea of a surfer who on the surface might not look intelligent, but actually is. I did model him after a real surfer who was more than generous with his information. Though the character is fictional, the information is real. My source was invaluable in making sure this read without being insulting and disrespectful. I also liked the shy, quiet girl who stereotypes the surfer. The female "bookworm" was easy as she's a lot like me.

3. How does it differ from some of your other stories? My first story with a changing POV from male to female as well the first time I've ever had a male 1st person POV.

4. What was the most challenging thing about writing this piece? The changing POVs, not making the male characters sound too feminine, and making sure my surfing facts were correct. I've never written a story where the POVs switch, nor had I written one that had a male 1st person POV before this. In the end, I'm very pleased with the final result.

5. Anything else you want to tell us about it? It was blessed early on with a Recommended Read and this is a story I'm extremely proud of. The feedback has been amazing and I feel so blessed that so many have enjoyed it.

A final thought... I wish to thank ChuckEPoo for his surfing knowledge and feedback. That helped so much and this story would not be nearly as awesome without him. I also wish to thank WSCLG for proofreading I don't know how many times for me and catching my silly typos. His feedback helped so much as well. Finally... a HUGE thanks to SandyMonore for a second chance to write a story for another amazing anthology. I'm so honored to be included with so many amazing authors.

Topic Is Cursive Dead?
Posted 08 Aug 2015 16:22

Haha - Well I didn't do a good job of communicating did I :) My apologies I don't usually get the opportunity to actually write, had I spoken this it would have been simpler to understand.

So maybe you should have been taught cursive writing in school? Or perhaps you need to practice your writing skills. Just saying.

You say you can't shoe a horse, or live on a farm, these are decisions you have made they aren't important to you, if they were you would make it happen. Exposure to more than the minimums allows us to expand our horizons.

My daughter can shoe a horse, she doesn't though she has a furrier come in and do them for her, she is capable of doing this because I insisted we learn how it is done. She is college educated with a good career, she chose to have and keep horses this is one of her hobbies. During school she was a good musician, she chose not to pursue this, she was a crappy dancer so she chose not to be a dancer, her art skills are middling. She has excellent mechanical abilities and is able to repair many items. No she isn't a genius, she is a hard working motivated woman who was given a wide selection of choices.

You totally missed my point on this. What I was saying was my inability to shoe a horse does not make me stupid. It is a skill I lack because there is no need for me to know it. My "choice" to not live on a farm is due to my employment & martial status throughout my life. Also, my current household income does not make it feasible for me at this time to own horses. Should that ever change and I decide I really want to own a horse, then I will learn said skill.

The decision makers need to do the same, quit taking away what we teach, add to it if necessary, make the sacrifices now because the end result benefits society. People need to insist that we educate, insist that the future is important to us all.

Okay... what are you doing about this where you live? I know when people feel passionate about things they do something about it. Do you?

Now to really piss off a bunch of people... Most teachers complain they are not paid enough.

I don't have a clue what teachers salaries are like in the U.S. I do however have a little idea about here in Canada. Teachers salaries are good, most will disagree I am sure. My Father emigrated from the U.K. with his second wife both teachers in their 40's they came with nothing, they have retired very comfortably. I have nieces and a nephew close to my daughters age. All three are teachers, their standard of living is similar to my daughters, they however put in considerably less time than she.

I can only comment on teachers in the US. Pay ranges from not only state to state, but district to district. Take a state like California for example. You can drive in a 50 mile radius and find teachers paid as low as $40K a year to as high as $90K a year depending on years of experience and levels of education. Every district pays differently as does every state. As for your nieces & nephews who are teachers... you have no idea how much time they really put in. I'm sure they don't share with you all that they do or they don't consider what they do outside of the classroom as work.

Of course.. you neglected to mention what subjects they teach. If they are elective teachers, they may indeed work fewer hours than some. I am an English/reading teacher. Thus, I have essays and other writing assignments to grade that cannot be done by an aid or a computer. I know from what I've seen that math, science, & history teachers work off hours to prepare their lessons. So... you might want to check your facts about the hours we really work.

I never got into teaching for the money. I got into it to make a difference.

As far a cursive writing goes... I do wish it was taught more than it is. I have made my voice heard. The real question is... have you?
