Topic posting "thank you for reading my story" comments
Posted 22 Jul 2015 17:43

I also dislike getting "spam." When I get a "spam," it almost guarantees that I will not read the work.

I will admit this does make me a lot less likely to read a story... but I'll also admit to doing this in the past... and wondering if it really did me any good or not. After reading what LJ so point blankly said (and I applaud her for her honesty) I will cease the practice of "spamming". Those who choose to follow me will know when I post a new story. Those who don't... well... either they'll see my story on the home page or they'll stumble upon it on their own.

Topic Project Semi Colon: Lush Style
Posted 22 Jul 2015 16:46

As someone who has gotten to know you over the past two plus years, I know how much it took for you to share this not only with the mods... but with the rest of Lush as well. I've always admired you for your courage, and I've told you so. Now... I'm telling everyone.

As someone who knows you, and the source of your PTSD (well... one of them... I won't even presume to know all the causes), I know how easy it is to just throw in the towel and say "FUCK IT!" I know the feeling of fear gripping your soul, choking you off, and making you think you can't go on (I experienced that earlier this year.) It was your strength and friendship that helped me get though that shit.

I've seen the posts on Facebook about Project Semi Colon and I know for you to make this as public as you did too courage. More courage than you probably thought you had. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your courage and strength still impresses me beyond words.

May peace & love fill you life & future.

Topic A word
Posted 22 Jul 2015 13:28

At one time I would say I truly hated that word and would never use it in my writings. However, times and attitudes change. I have found it can work in certain situations and before anyone can call me out... I have used it in at least one story... possibly two... but I'm honestly not sure. I also don't care if a writer uses it in their story. To me... it's a choice of vocabulary. When I see it in a story or a poem, I just move on. I don't say, "What a horrid person for using that word!" If it fits... then I'm like... "Good word choice."

I rarely use it outside of writing, but there is one person on this earth whom I have called a cunt... and I meant it in the most negative and purposeful way I possibly could... and it was the nicest thing I could have called her.

Honestly... there are worse words that are used much more often and are way more offensive. My 2 cents

I read The Old Man and The Sea in high school, and The Sun Also Rises as well as a handful of short stories in college (A 'Clean, Well-Lighted Place' comes to mind.)

As with any author... there were some I liked... and some I read because it was "required" reading. LOL

First off... I love Humans ... great show!

Now... as to your question... I'm honestly not sure if I would fuck an android if given the opportunity. On one level... it's not all that different from using a vibrator. On another... it's quite different. You're having sex with something that looks like a person. But then... if it can take care of my sexual needs when my spouse can't... it might be fun.

Unfriended: I really want to see this still! I'm dying to see it. I know because I've waited so long, it will be utter shit, kind of like It Follows, but I won't know until I see it, damn it!

In my opinion hon... wait until it is available on Red Box. My husband & I walked out on this one... it was pure crap and a waste of our time, money and of film. Apple must have thought differently as there is a lot of Apple product placement.

Topic Talking To My Fellow Poets Here...
Posted 21 Jul 2015 19:39

Except for school (high school and college) I've successfully written one poem (it would have been two but the second one was lost with my OS crashed.) Those who write poetry well make it look easy. Some will say writing a poem is easier than writing a story... others will say the opposite is true. For me, poetry is difficult... damn difficult. Finding the right words to covey my feelings about a given subject is a challenge. I'm sure other poets would agree.

You Steph... wrote an incredible poem for your friend. You are an amazing writer. Your talent is unmistakable.

When you put you heart into your writing... it shows.

I hope all our future poets see this. Thank you for this amazing advice. clapping

Topic This was rejected because it wasn't a "Romantic" love poem...The category is just list
Posted 21 Jul 2015 19:05

heres an opinion that isnt easily rejected,u cant tell me,and im sure a handful of other Lushies out there who possibly feel the same way, that ego among the moderators looking over the stories dont let that creep into thier decision-making when it comes to accepting poems/stories,on something that has no clear definition among the other categories,if thats the case, then somebody needs to put thier foot down and put a stop to it.

I really hope you don't believe this. Moderators are volunteers. They are real people, with real lives, jobs, families, and such. They have good and bad days. They have made mistakes. They have also seen things that never make it to the home page and often upset them to the point of, "I'm taking a time-out." They do this with little gratitude (however, some member are really good about showing their appreciation.) They make edits for Gold Members (within reason & the only exception is Comp Entries), and if there is a question, they ask for help. Some questions can be answered quickly... others as was stated earlier can take 2-3 pages of dialogue and discussion.

Members bring issues up to Mods all the time. Some are minor (i.e.: a bug affecting the site) and some are major (i.e.: plagiarism). All of these issues are taken seriously and looked into. Minor issues are often fixed so fast that maybe one or two mods even knew of the issue... major issues might involve more Mods.

Of all the stories I've ever submitted, the ones that went through without a hitch and the ones that were rejected, I never felt the Mod's ego was crept into their decision. I always felt they had valid reasons for their decision... even if I didn't fully agree (which was really rare.) My 2 cents

This story has a GRAIN of truth:

When I used to Mod, this VERY often happened. You'd hit the Queue and be faced with the following.

"I really love my border collie. She's the cutest dog. IN fact a bizarre thing happened when...."
(My Reply) Hey there! I can see this is your first submission. Please read carefully our guidelines as we don't allow stories of this kind. It's well written but we don't permit this particular kind of dog-loving on site. Best of luck with more suitable offerings in future.. XX Steph, Lush Moderator.

I imagine that having studiously kept a low profile on the site and not being a story moderator on Lush are facts likely to add a deep discount to my opinion but I feel moved to tender it anyway: it seems to me that when it becomes possible to do an end run around the decision of the moderators by posting your work in the forums it won't be very long until Lush is mostly Forum and far fewer published pieces. A tragedy of epic proportions.

Your opinion, as that of any member of Lush, is important. Some might make jokes or try to use sarcasm (I know I'm guilty of this) to make their point, but that doesn't make what they are saying any less important.

Everyone here in this thread, as well as those who have commented in other threads have different opinions. Some will agree, some will not. The only time a Forum Mod steps in is when it is truly necessary. Yes there are certain rules we must all follow (no site/mod bashing is one such example), and from what I've seen, everyone in this thread has been respectful for the most part in sharing their opinion in regards to Loneleygirl68's poem. We might not all agree... but we've all been respectful in our discussion of it.

I hope you don't think your voice doesn't count. It does. Not everyone will agree with you, but some will.

I hope you find Lush to be a wonderful place to share your opinions.

Topic All-Time Favorite Games
Posted 21 Jul 2015 13:18

That was the thing with the C64. Bootlegging games was so f-ing easy. I think I had four time as many as I actually paid for. :D (I was young and foolish then and do not advocate this today ;) ).

Well... back then we didn't see it as a crime. We were sharing the games and the software. I look back and realize how bad that was. It was new territory. We weren't being bad as much as just... "sharing" the fun. Yeah I would not encourage that whatsoever now. I think it's why they have made doing that so much harder.

Topic Do you agree with the following statements?
Posted 20 Jul 2015 22:23

Disclaimer : The following opinion is that of a middle school teacher and the parent of an adult young man whom I worked very hard to raise. I am also a teacher. I teach students in the age range of 11-14.

When my son was young, there were no tablets (iPads, Androids, etc.) The internet was just on the horizon (and I'm talking about the old dial-up dinosaur.) My son played with Legos, blocks, Lincoln Logs, stuffed toys, cars, and other stuff. As he got older, I did expose him to a computer computer and video games. When it was clear his school work was suffering, the TV was turned off, the video game was put away, & his phone was taken away until I saw the changes necessary to let him have these items back.

I can say from what I've seen... a lot of parents don't do the same. I'm not saying ALL parents... but more than I would care to see. A friend of mine has a 3 year old daughter. When the child was about 1-ish, my friend posted on Facebook that her daughter was having a meltdown because her iPad's battery had died. I had to fight to bite my tongue. Why is the "go-to" toy for a 1 year old child an iPad? What happened to a stuffed toy (teddy bear, doll, dog, whatever)?

Parents are stuffing electronic devices into their child's hands to act as the electronic babysitters. There are now 5 year-olds who don't know how to use a real book. It doesn't sing, it doesn't talk, if they touch the cover or the pages, they don't react.

I'm all for incorporating technology into education... but not for the sake of the technology. I enjoyed the nights when I read stories to my son before he went to bed. We read the same books so often I nearly had them memorized. Later, he read them to me. He does enjoy video games... and he's the king of the texting people (so kidding here... but he is of that group of people) but he can and will pick up a real book and enjoy.

Technology is not the end all solution. Kids can find the answers to any questions they have. The problem is... they don't know what is a credible source and what is crap. They are still learning that rule about everything on the internet might not be the truth, and you must check your sources and double check your facts.

Kids can think... the problem is they don't know what to believe. My 2 cents

I won't lie... I was laughing my butt off this morning when I heard this. Lfunny

If a person is going to have an affair... they are going to have an affair. There is no denying this. If a person is foolish enough to use sites like Ashley Madison and AdultFriendFinder, then they go in knowing the risks.

I agree with VanGogh, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Especially after all the other hacks that have occurred.

You, too, eh? Had to keep that disk squirreled away, though (I was 17 and living at home when we got our C64).

I was 16 when I got mine... after I spent a weekend doing homework on my dad's. A year later I got a dot-matrix computer.

I had bootlegged copies (back when you could copy games with just a program and a blank disk) of the entire series including the two guys, plus a bunch of other games. They were my dad's... and I spread them around my town to all my friends. I would come on Friday with a stack of blank disks... and leave with a ton of new games for my friends and me.

Hell... we never used the original disks... we made copies so we didn't ruin the data.

I disagree...

(Let's PUT STUFF ON HERE and SEE how it is received? WITHIN our guidelines, obviously...) If it ISN'T received THE AUTHOR will GET THE MESSAGE...

I THINK the quoted piece EXPLORES a DARK SIDE of sexuality, love, obsession and fixation...

FUCK... (I know I DO!!!)

As a MODERATOR, you HAVE to put your OWN preferences IN YOUR POCKET... (Other people MIGHT FEEL IT???)

If it's NOT against site standards and IT'S NOT badly written THEN IT SHOULD GO UP!!!

And take its chances.

xx SF

Fine... the we shall just agree to disagree. I still respect your views, I just don't agree.

Disagreeing is your prerogative.
(You know I love you, but you did mention that you were a fired volunteer right?)confused5

Of course we explore these things, the dark side/love/obsession and fixation are also explored elsewhere.
I'm not even going to bother denying it's presence in the poem because I don't think that is the question.
The question is if enough is there to qualify for Lush. If you are saying that it is, I have to disagree my friend--with respect
for both you and the poem. And, I didn't pick up on anything sexual, so why bother going there in this thread.

Keeping all things beneficial, I totally understand how Lonelygirl feels. It happens to the best of us, as Steph admitted.
No one wants you to abandon it or even rewrite it. I wouldn't if it were mine. The Blue Site would welcome it, I'm sure.

I agree with ABG... this would do well on the Blue Site. As a stand-alone poem... it would be a good fit there. My 2 cents
