You send people your regards (good wishes). When discussing something it is "with (or in) regard to", not the plural.

It was late last night...I told three lies and one truth. Embarassed

I am guessing that the lie was about not having had an STD. I think that you have been in love, been heartbroken, and acquiesced in the fiancée thing.

I got it ..didn't I?

p.s. I'm sure you're bi (lingual that is) . I'm quite sure you're blonde (but not that blonde, I got that).
Norway, hum hum blonde... theyyy do go together, hum.
You could have artistic abilities, but I choose this as a lie because of these indirect sugestions: bilingual, Norway and "Out For Dinner".

If I got it, I could have some future with Mr Holmes. Oh phone is ringing already

Sorry, Keoloke, you are no Watson. The lie was Norway.

I am going to guess #3 is the lie.

1. I am bilingual

2. I am a natural blonde

3. I have been to Norway

4. I went to art school

In my view, it is not all about the number of views, votes, or comments. Although, of course, I like to receive positive feedback to my poems and the stories that I write with Alphamagus, when I see the some of stories that get far higher numbers in terms of views, votes and comments, I realize that is not the audience that I write for. Everyone is entitled to their own taste and to read what they enjoy. There are some readers who I am certain would never read my work, and that is not a problem for me. So, bottom line, numbers are not everything. Comments that are positive and thoughtful are meaningful, no matter how many or few there are.

The faces/expressions made out of punctuation marks drive me crazy. Are we all three years old and unable to read words like grown-ups?

This is not cool (or kewl) but symptomatic of the dumbing down of everything in popular culture. It is a deliberate laziness and ignorance that will not lead to anything good. Try applying to a professional school or for an upper level position writing in text speak. I don't think it will make a great impression. Literacy matters.

(I just read what I wrote and understand that I am now officially an old curmudgeon, but I don't take it back.)

Topic Need help with proofing my story
Posted 20 Sep 2012 09:31

A good start would be a post describing your story and what help you need.

I do have some suggestions for you before you hand your story off to someone else. First, read all of the material on grammar, formatting, etc. in the Writer's Resources. Do not rely on spell check alone as you proof your story as it does not catch mistakes that are words producing unfortunate errors like, "he put his hands on my waste". Put in some of your own time and, even if someone proofs it for you, make an effort to learn from your mistakes and the corrections that are made. That is the way to become a better writer.

And the previous post was correct. Please is good manners.

Saddam Hussein was an evil, murdering dictator that deserved to be taken down. However, we invaded Iraq under false pretenses. The evidence for weapons of mass destruction was extremely flimsy at best, based on the eye witness of one unreliable informer. Once there we discovered that there were NO weapons of mass destruction.

I can't believe Bush didn't have someone plant some WMD's in the sand and say we found some. He was and still is so damned arrogant. But hey nothing has changed.

Watch the movie "Fair Game" to see how Bush/Cheney manipulated the situation to start a war over WMD knowing they did not exist. Valerie Plame, a CIA agent was outed by them and Cheney's chief of staff (I believe) Scooter Libby was convicted of obstruction of justice.

As Obama continues to wade through eight years of Bush engendered shit, incidentally blocked at every attempted reform by a vindictive Republican congress, Romney and Ryan lie, pander and patently back-flip in an effort to woo America.

Offering platitudes and empty passionless promises, and backed by mega-billion dollar corporations (who REALLY care about ordinary people...) these two men seem to be using soft soap and snake oil in an effort to hoodwink America into selling its soul.

Can they do it?

xx Steph

The real Romney has been outed this week with that video - at home with a country club crowd of rich donors and expressing his disgust for half of the US population not lucky enough to be born to a wealthy family like him. He is clueless about how ordinary people live and struggle and is smug about it.

As the saying goes, he was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.

Now demonstrating his expertise on domestic issues after that wonderful exhibition of his knowledge on foreign affairs. Go Mitt!!!

He has reshuffled his campaign staff. Sure, it is their fault that (quoting the late Ann Richards on Bush I) he was born with a silver foot in his mouth.

This reminds me of the Palin interview last time. Verbatim it was an SNL skit.

There are many songs for many reasons from many genres and eras: Diana Krall singing "You're My Thrill" and "The Look of Love", The Stones' "Satisfaction", music from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Billie Holliday (although these may be more romantic than explicit), but the iconic explicit song of all time has to be Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin singing "Je t'aime" - with sounds in the background clearly indicating what they were doing as they recorded. What I am trying to communicate is that you are wilfully blind to the damage that incest, abuse, rape and violence do in reality, by prettying it up under the guise of fantasy. It is disingenuous of you to pretend it is anything else.

I have been very clear. We will not agree about this.

In fact I do know several people who have been the victim of several of the things you listed, so there goes that theory of yours. Yes, I approach this from the view of fantasy... because the subject matter is fantasies. Fantasies about things which, in real life, are horrible and painful. That's the beauty of fantasy, it's not reality.

I haven't left yet. In fact, I am grateful for the actual answers I've been receiving to my questions. I am not thankful for presumptuous attacks on the validity of the discussion. My questions are sincere. I'm looking for answers and attempting to understand something. Help me, or don't.

If you don't mind some conjecture, it seems, to me, that rape stories are not allowed because some members seem to get offended at the mere mention of them. If those members are at all representative of the group, then I completely understand why they're not allowed.

Yes, I am slightly upset because some of my stories inch into these taboo areas, because I like to write about things specifically because those things cannot happen, or I would be morally opposed to them. I can explore them only in fantasy, so I do. I have a few relatively safe stories to share here, but I'm ultimately upset that I have to censor myself to make sure I don't break a rule that I don't empathize with.

Yet, I am okay with the rule, since this is not my site. It simply makes writing harder, because I must artificially avoid certain topics.

That is the problem with your point of view. It is reality and nothing can change that. Your logic implies that if you fantasize, it makes it so. Nothing will take away the pain and ugliness of the reality. Fantasizing does not make it so.

I will be blunt, Callidus. You approach this from the point of view of fantasy. Do you have any idea what it is like to be the victim of a rape, or sexual abuse as a child, or violence? Or has that happened to anyone close to you? I suspect not. If it had these questions would not have been asked and you would have accepted the answers that have been graciously provided to you.

The reality of rape, abuse, and violence is not pretty or artistic or the stuff of fantasy. It is ugly and painful and criminal, and far more prevalent than any of us would like to think. Frankly, whether you accept this or not, whether it makes sense to you or not, does not matter. You have a choice to stay and be member within these parameters or leave and find a rape or snuff or pedophile site that appeals to you more.

Thank you, but I'm still curious why there are so many limits in the first place. I certainly don't deny that the owners of the website may make whatever rules they wish, I'm curious why they did it, though. Except for true stories, all stories are an exploration of fantasy, of the things you wouldn't do in real life, hence writing about them. What's the purpose of these rules?

The purpose of the rules is not to pander to those who would victimize children and others. Lush insists that all sexual activity portrayed be consensual and between people who are of age. There are other websites that cater to the demographic you describe, but their viewers are often subject to criminal charges relating to things like child pornorgraphy. Please feel free to look for that material elsewhere.

And, yes, as Dude said, the law matters.

Topic Please do not contact us about "low" votes on your stories / poems
Posted 17 Sep 2012 13:49

what about a two-tier voting system?

One component is the technical competency of the story, how creative it is, how articulate/eloquent it is, minus spelling errors and grammatical flaws.

The second component focuses squarely on the erotic dynamic of the story.

Just a thought.

I think that literacy is part of writing, so I disagree with this. The writer's use of language and their skills are indicative of their writing ability, not just the content of their work. I have read beautifully crafted sentences over again because of this.

i have two thoughts. Disgusted at the photographer and sad for kate.

But i can't help thinking she shouldn't have taken her top off in the first place. While she should have every right to do so when in private grounds, as one of the most famous people on the planet, she unfortunately loses this right to privacy and i feel she was a bit naiive to take her top off when outside.

I agree. She was naive to think that this could not happen, especially with the history of the paparazzi with Diana. She would have to concede that relinquishing the privacy of an unknown citizen was part of the deal in marrying into the royal family. A hard way to learn this lesson. Perhaps she was not thinking about it at the time, being in France, where women going topless to sunbathe is common.

Topic Authors, If you could recommend only one of your stories, which one would it be?
Posted 13 Sep 2012 11:25

If I must choose one, it is "Out For Dinner", the first of the Robert and Juliana series and inspired by a restaurant where I have frequently been out for dinner.

These stories written with Alphamagus about Robert and Juliana each stand alone, and can be enjoyed in any order, but this was the start for them and for our partnership as writers. The stories are sexy and erotic, but also describe a real, loving relationship - not robotic sex. Food and wine seem always to be involved, perhaps because they are part of sensuality. There is also an element of playfulness and humour in each story. It would be our privilege to have more of you read them.
