Topic Bad timing to publish story... can we schedule the publishing of our stories?
Posted 27 Mar 2014 12:31

Absolutely not. No one is guaranteed a time when their story will be posted, even if they are gold members. (Something about those last two words just struck me funny.) If you are a gold member, you will get priority, but that may still get you posted at an inconvenient time in your terms.

In this respect, everyone who submits takes the same risk as to when they will see their story on the front page. It depends on how many moderators are working, how many stories are in the queue, how many are ahead of you, and of course how well your story is written. This assumes it will not get sent back for corrections.

Other sites take days and weeks to process stories. Unless the queue is flooded, and it has been much of the time lately, you should see your story up within 24 hours, barring it being sent back for edits. That is the only time it would take four days for a story to be posted - when it is sent back for edits. Then it depends how quickly the writer gets their story to a standard worthy of being published here. There are often forty stories in the queue and submissions keep coming as we all work, keeping the number steady at 40. Remember this is all volunteer time. A thank you for the work done when your story is posted would be good manners and appreciated.

I get six or seven. I could sleep for nine.

It was one of those perfect June days that we wait for all winter. The sun was warm, the sky a clear and intense blue without a cloud in sight. It felt like slipping into a warm bath rather than the sauna that the heat and humidity of August would bring.

In addition to what Milik_the_Red said above, I would suggest using the Writers' Resources for information that is useful in writing and editing your story.

Do not rely on spell check alone as it allows many mistakes that are words. If spelling is an issue for you, have a friend proofread your work.

As was mentioned before, the story moderators volunteer their time to review submitted stories. They ascertain that the stories comply with site guidelines and are written with a literacy level expected on the site. Incidentally, the benchmark has been raised over the past two years to have more literate stories on the site. While they may do a few minor edits in an otherwise well written story, they are not here to provide proofreading and editing services for members. If there is work to be done on your story, you must put the time in to make corrections to get it published. You will be provided with editorial notes and related information links if and when your story is returned to you.

A good beginning for some information is this general advice:

Please do not be like the person who submitted a story that was frankly a mess. She then complained that she had spent fifteen minutes writing it and that we were causing her to spend even more time making corrections. Writers spend days and weeks creating, proofreading, editing, and polishing their stories. Those who do not want to commit any time to this should perhaps reconsider.

DD, I agree with almost everything you have said. In the end, the decision belongs to each one of us. No one can force us to have shots that we don't want. My point was to be aware of our sources of information in making an intelligent decision.

I don't think blanket statements pro or con are helpful. We all have a responsibility to make informed decisions about our health and that of our loved ones. I would only trust respected sources like the NIH or other such sites. Reading something on some obscure internet site does not make it the truth or reliable. Taking health advice about vaccinations from C-list celebrities (e.g. Jenny MCarthy and the purported connection between autism and vaccinations) is also not wise.

Do your research, talk to your doctor, and decide for yourself. There are many childhood diseases that have been eradicated because of vaccinations.

Is there anyway to read any of her stories. Really enjoyed them, heck i just registered to ask about this.

When someone deletes their account, their stories are also deleted. This is why people are advised to think a lot about this before doing it. An interim measure is to put your account in abeyance, which preserves your stories. Moderators have enough work to do without reviewing the stories of members who delete their accounts and then return shortly thereafter.

Topic Fuck- and Suck-fest versus erotic story
Posted 18 Mar 2014 17:22

As one of the story reviewers, I can assure you that we do not look for what you have called a suck- and fuck-fest in each story. This being an erotic website, we do look for some sexual content, but it can be a small portion of the story and be subtle or romantic or whatever you want to write that is not a suck- and fuck-fest (using your terms again). If that were the case there would be many stories that would not be published, including mine. I have to add that many readers prefer these erotic stories with some elements of romance to the others. I love anticipation, so I don't have to be convinced of its place in telling a story. Have a look at some of the stories that have been awarded Editors' Picks. You will see a wide range of stories there.

Please feel free to write your kind of story and submit it. So long as it complies with site guidelines and is not rife with grammar and other errors, it will be published.

If you have any further questions, you may PM me.

I have bumped this post as a reminder to writers. There have been a lot of stories submitted with the title and author's name repeated in the body of the story recently.

As well, please move any Author's Notes to the end of your story.

Thank you.

Topic Best job interview tip?
Posted 11 Mar 2014 08:53

1. Keep your CV brief and to the point. Employers hate reading detailed job descriptions. It is boring and timewasting. We already know the responsibilities and we will go into detail during the interview.

2. Be honest. Employers use Google too and also do there own checks.

3. Don't waffle or babble on

Absolutely to all of the above. Try to keep your CV to one concise page. You can always add that further background will be provided on request if your work history is a long one. It is your more recent experience that is of interest to prospective employers.

Maybe having weekly Story Picks would be cool? The monthly ones are sweet, but at least if they were weekly it would give more people a chance of having their story picked. Like imagine how many awesome stories get published in a month and only 10 get recognition for it?...

That's a great idea. In the meantime, you can certainly look for stories in your favourite categories that have been awarded a Recommended Read by a moderator. These are given more frequently than the Editor's Pick awards.

I wished it was not so hard to have a story submiited, quotation marks, paragraphs, ect, maybe the editors that read them and deny them can fix them too

The above is a link to many resources that will help you including some videos on various grammar and editing issues.

I believe that one of the reasons that Lush is growing rapidly is the quality of the stories that are published here. The team of story moderators has been working for some time to raise the bar on the literacy level on Lush and we are succeeding. There is no way that a group of volunteers like this could possibly "fix" all of the stories submitted.

If you have specific questions after reading all of the resources available, please PM any of the story moderators found in "Lush Contacts". We do expect writers to do the work to bring their stories to the standard displayed on the site. You should also read the site guidelines to insure that your story is compliant.

Topic What's your opinion on abortion?
Posted 10 Mar 2014 10:39

I think it is a private and personal decision of the woman and her doctor.

I would suggest that all of the people who are against abortion spend their time and energy working to better the lives of abused and abandoned children. Foster them. Adopt them. Then you make a difference in the lives of children who are already here and live up to your principles, rather than imposing your values on others who disagree with you.

I cannot fathom how the extreme religious right justifies their terror campaigns against abortion clinics, patients and doctors. As we know, the threats have escalated to murder in some cases. How does this value life?

These people have influence far out of proportion to their numbers in many states in the US because of their ability to organize and mobilize votes. They are making it impossible for women to get safe abortions. This will not end abortions. It will only send it back to the 1950s when it was illegal and dangerous. How does this value women's lives?

Dress professionally. Arrive a little early. Maintain eye contact with your interviewers. Do some research on the company before your interview so that you can ask some intelligent questions, as is usual at the end of the interview. Don't say trite things like "I am a people person." Be ready to back up your abilities with examples of how you used them successfully for your employers. Listen carefully.

Topic writing a sex story
Posted 09 Mar 2014 14:10

I agree with all that has already been said. Keep it plausible. Describe things in a way that brings your readers into the story. Please, please do not provide us with what we call a laundry list of the main characters' attributes (which are usually improbable) e.g. She was a redhead with green eyes, 5'6", with 34DD breasts, a 25" waist and 34" hips, rounded ass like Kim K. He was 6'2", handsome, black hair, brown eyes, chiseled torso and 9" dick. Allow the details of your characters' appearances come out as you tell the story. We hate those lists, probable or not.

The best and easiest way to understand what to do is to read stories that have been recognized with Recommended Reads or Editor's Picks. RRs are given by moderators independently as they read submissions and posted stories here. EPs are voted on by a panel of moderators and writers and are the highest award for excellence here. Take lessons from these writers and you will not go wrong.

Topic The Ukraine Crisis
Posted 06 Mar 2014 16:27

Everyone needs to understand that Washington is lying about Ukraine just as Washington lied about Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, just as Washington lied about Iranian nukes, just as Washington lied about Syrian president Assad using chemical weapons, just as Washington lied about Afghanistan, Libya, NSA spying, torture. What hasn’t Washington lied about?

Washington is comprised of three elements: Arrogance, Hubris, and Evil. There is nothing else there.

You've been watching "House of Cards" again.

@ marktreble: For the record I said this on the first page of this thread:

What the EU and NATO can do is start economic sanctions, freeze assets held by Russians, and limit their ability to trade and carry on business. Limiting the Russian oligarchs ability to do business would then cause them to pressure Putin to relent.

Topic The Ukraine Crisis
Posted 05 Mar 2014 14:04

Putin treasures the limelight on the world stage and asserting Russia as a world power among the others. Suspending his membership or association with organizations like the G8 and others would give him the smack in the ego he needs. He seems to be living and thinking in an alternate universe with some messianic vision of recapturing the good old days of the Soviet Union.

I find myself drinking more red in the cold months and white in the warm ones along with rose. Perhaps it is because we eat heartier food in the cold months and drinking wine cold is refreshing in the summer.

Topic The Ukraine Crisis
Posted 03 Mar 2014 14:10

I think DD is probably right. No one wants a war, not even Putin. He will want a resolution because so much of his support is from Russian oligarchs who do not want economic, trade, travel and other sanctions, and especially would not want their assets frozen. I agree that the basis of a lot of this is money, but we should not forget Putin's ego and penchant for displaying what Italians call la bella figura - a good face in public. If the next G8 meeting does not take place in Sochi as planned and they throw Russia out of the group, it would be a slap in that bella figura .

Canada will take a role in all of this as I understand that we have the third largest population of Ukrainians in the world. (Forgive me if I am remembering incorrectly.) I suspect that our Prime Minister will not be motivated solely by concern for the Ukrainian people. We will be having an election in about a year and he wants those votes.

This is a place that has been held in the power of several countries. It has known violence and war. I hope that doesn't happen again.
