Topic Knowing the Worst?
Posted 10 Sep 2012 15:53

Would you rather know the worst (something that feels like it rips your heart out), or just live in a constant state of not knowing?

They say ignorance is bliss, but I do not think so. If there is something you are fretting about, you should know one way or the other and deal with it. It may not be as bad as you imagined, and, in any event, you will deal with it. Much better than living and wondering and obsessing into deeper spirals of stress. Not knowing is not really a fool's paradise if you are worrying. My 2 cents

Topic Do you think a guy could make a gal cum without having sexual intercourse

You are asking this question on Lush?

The answer must be "yes" - and for the reverse, a woman making a man come - or this place would have far fewer members. I realize that many read and do not cyber, but the demographic still must be pretty high.

As to your situation, again the answer is "yes" if he is skilful and attentive.

Topic Falling for a friend.
Posted 10 Sep 2012 08:21

Sorry, I wasn't clear...no I don't think many end up 'successfully' making something romantic out of friendship. All I was saying is there's probably an equal number of people that have to take their shot and find out- good or bad, as there are people who treasure their friendship too much to risk it by 'making a move.'

Always the contrarian, I can report that it did work in my case. My SO and I had a long friendship before it was transformed into what it is now. Our understanding provided a solid basis for the romantic relationship. I must also confess that it was he who took the risk and admitted his feelings. My epiphany happened after that first real kiss.

Topic What have you read, that you've never forgotten?
Posted 10 Sep 2012 08:15

Jane Austen: Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion
Gustave Flaubert: Madame Bovary
Thomas Mann: Buddenbrooks, Death in Venice
Henry James: Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians
Joseph Heller: Catch 22
Tolstoy: Anna Karenina
E.M. Forster: A Passage to India, Room with a View, Howard's End
Evelyn Waugh: Brideshead Revisited
Kazuo Ishiguro: The Remains of the Day
Irene Nemerovsky: Suite Francaise (a book written during WW II by a woman who did not survive the war - its manuscript was only discovered and published a few years ago)

I love reading and could probably list fifty more books that stayed with me, but those are the first that came to mind.

Topic Can Romney/Ryan get elected?
Posted 09 Sep 2012 19:48

No, the Republicans have been invited to the table, they just refused to seat themselves.

The Republicans stated that their goal - from the day after Obama's inauguration - was not to work for the betterment of their constituents and their country, but to see to it that he was not re-elected. Both Boehner and McConnell said it. So much for the vaunted patriotism of the GOP. Politics, not country first. They would not give an inch in case he got credit for doing something positive.

I cannot help but wonder if the depth of the GOP animus towards Obama is not based (even if subconsciously) on racism.

I can't agree with that. Voting for them is something we can effectively do to vote against the economic policies that have caused a debt that has decreased the value of living here to the point where investor confidence is evaporating. Not voting effectively against a government that is so economically naive is irresponsible. If I had my druthers, the Democratic Party would throw out the collectivists so that it would make sense to vote against Republicans, but until it does, I'd rather be called all the names in the book than vote for economic collapse.

You do not acknowledge that it was Shrub (Bush II) who produced the deficit with the tax cuts and subsidies for oil, etc. after the US's economic house was put in order by Bill Clinton who himself inherited the economic mess of the the other Bush and Reagan trickle down economics. Their trickle down just lifted all yachts. You can argue about economic policies, but you cannot shift the responsibility for the deficit to the Dems. It was your lot that did it.

Hello Kylie

There are many threads in the Writer's Resources that may help you with punctuation and other editing issues including run-on sentences.

If you want more information. there are both books and websites available on style/grammar for writers which are helpful.

For a humourous look at all of this, I recommend a small book called "Eats, Shoots and Leaves".

As a mod who edits and verifies stories for this site, I thank you for persevering and asking for help before submitting your work.

Can someone please explain to me why these GOP politicians are running for office when they have such disdain for the needs of the people and contempt for government and its responsibilities?

They are there only to do the bidding of right wing nuts like Grover Norquist, millionaires wanting more tax cuts, and corporations and industries who want to write their own legislation. They believe in less government unless you are a woman, then they believe that they can interfere in your most personal decisions. The free market rules except for the millions reaped by the oil companies, the insurance companies and all of those in the health care business (which in every other industrialized country is not a for profit business, but a fundamental right). BTW I do not see GOP senators and congressmen opting out of the great government health care plan that comes with their job.

They told Todd Akin and his medieval opinions to stay away from their convention, but they cannot escape their blatant misogyny.

If you are an American and not a white male evangelical Christian in the top one percent of income, you have no reason to vote for them. And even then, if you are a thinking person you should not.

Bill Clinton needs to give his seminar speech in every state and President Obama must explain where he will take the voters in language just as clear. Then the Dems will win.

I agree with you, Steph, but neither of us is an American.

The Republicans have somehow mastered the ability to appeal to the veiled fears of Americans of others - blacks, gays, Latinos, non-Christians, immigrants, and, most unfortunately, women - and against their own self-interest unless they are part of that party's natural constituency of right wing miliionaires. For them politics is a blood sport and consensus and compromise are dirty words. Their idiotic economic and deregulation policies have resulted in a catastrophe for Americans, but not those like Romney himself, with his Caymans bank accounts. Their foreign policy is American exceptionalism - which brought respect for the US under George Bush to new lows around the world.

I hope that Americans are smart enough to reject this and that those who do will work hard to get Obama re-elected and change the balance of power in the Congress. I fear for them and the rest of us, that it may not happen. It will be a hard and dirty fight.

I would try therapy with another psychiatrist - one you relate to better. The other comment I can make is to acknowledge that there are some things that can never be fixed. You can make the decision to get on with your life and have that be the best life you can design for yourself. Perfection is not possible for you or anyone else, but the situations and people who damaged you cannot be allowed to impact the rest of your life.

Just do the best you can each day. It will get better with time and as the hurts fade into the past. They may never be entirely gone, but you can be happy again.

I dislike being called dear or honey by people who do not know me. Actually, I don't like dear from anyone.

In a general context, I hate when people use the word "like" constantly in their speech along with "goes" instead of "said", e.g. So he like goes to me......

Topic Bad Boys or Nice Guys?
Posted 29 Aug 2012 11:50

If you define a bad boy as somebody who treats you poorly yes.

I have been called a bad boy for making a woman wet while she was at work. I guess I'm a horrid man who treats women like crap now....

I don't know if you are a bad boy - a player - or not. Calling you a bad boy in the context you described was teasing you back for teasing her.

Topic Bad Boys or Nice Guys?

Bad boys hold their allure when you are young, feeding rebellion. When you realize how badly they treat you and you grow up, they lose their attraction. Give me the nice guy every time.
