Topic Does 'No-Fault Divorce' cheapen the 'institution of marriage'
09 May 2013 14:36
People who want a divorce will get one no matter what the system. It still has the potential to become acrimonious without having to prove fault. Surely, we do not want to go back to a time where fault had to be proved, and was staged with people allowing themselves to get "caught" in motel rooms with someone other than their spouse. There were photographers and others who made a business of this.
It makes no sense for people to have to stay together who cannot stand each other. Women had no choice decades ago when they were financially dependent on men. They had to tolerate their situations as they had no other options. Nowadays, the responsibility for making things work depends on both spouses and both have choices. That is a good thing.

The lesson is absolutely not to rely on spell check as it allows all of your mistakes that are words. A careful read and edit is always necessary.

For the sake of clarity, everyone should know that the first line you see in the message rejecting your story, "Too many grammatical and spelling errors" is pre-programmed into the system. If the moderator does not mention your spelling, it is likely that there were no spelling errors.
I have found that many people think we do not allow for the differences in US/UK spelling and, as Lisa said, that is not the case. Too many people rely on spell check alone, thinking that is a guarantee of no errors. Their story will contain spelling mistakes that are words such as the there, their, they're confusion. Other frequent mistakes are words that are made plural with apostrophes and possessives that lack them. Spell check does not catch errors that are words.
Please check the spelling of words you are unsure of. I had someone insist that per se (from Latin) should be per say because that is how it sounded to her.
Bottom line, the story moderators want to help make your story better and bring your writing to a publishable level. They spend hours of volunteered time reading and editing stories but are not an editing service. Some writers have noticed that the bar has been raised over the past few months and they are correct. There is no reason that erotica published here should be any less literate than anything else published out there.

Once there was a sexy vixen who was lonely, looking for love. So one day she ventured out wearing nothing but a sheer dress. She longed for someone nice to go alien hunting and cut wires. The wires will need special cutters that I have acquired illegally, holding the future of the whole world in my pants.
Then, in my haste to pull the rat out of the hole, I stepped in a big pile of glowing green radioactive toxic waste, my feet melted; but luckily they bubbled and fizzed but did not entirely disappear. They were made of hard pink granite, made from boiled Jurassic dinosaur eggs, kryptonite and sawdust, add vegetable oil, mix in blender, pour into moulds, bake at 450F...for 5 HOURS!
But, one must be very careful not to burn your butt on the hot grill. Leave to cool before you touch your genitals or you will be caught masturbating again. Unless you have a sharp knife close at hand, you do not open the book of Kama Sutra and play with strangers or with yourself, because a pervert can pop in, grab the vixen, show her love, buy her flowers.
The vixen deserves to be ravished and spanked

There is some irony in that both RR and MT ended their days with Alzheimer's/dementia. In his case it seems to have started while he was still in office requiring Nancy and his minions to constantly keep cuing him. Or was that just that he was a charming, dumb actor who needed others to write his lines. Being reminded of MT's support for Pinochet and other dictators is important in assessing her over and above the damage she did to the UK. I think that the mess in Europe and the US of the last few years can be traced back to the right wing capitalist policies of RR and MT. Two icons with feet of clay.

Doing it WELL would be an amazing achievement, especially if you tackle subjects that that exist outside of your comfort zone.
Okay, if someone writes stories good enough for an EP in every category, I agree they should get a special badge.
Edit: This was meant to be funny. I did not really mean this to be a serious suggestion.

I disagree. There are some excellent writers who would never write an incest story despite the popularity of that category here because it is abhorrent to them. There are other subjects where we lack knowledge or interest. For example, I am not interested in the supernatural and don't know enough about cross-dressing to write about it. My real objection is that I think that simply covering all of the categories is not an achievement. It has nothing to do with the quality of the writing like an Editor's Pick. I think that we should award excellence and not encourage writing that simply fills a quota but may have no other redeeming quality.

Someone mentioned how often their story has been favorited? How do you find that into?
I haven't learned all the ins and outs of things yet.
Under your profile bio you will see "Favourite Stories" where your faves are listed (assuming you have some). On the same line there is a link which will take you to a list of the members who have chosen your stories as their favourites.
