Topic Kevin Spacey Sexual Assault Allegations against 14 year old Anthony Rapp.
Posted 04 Nov 2017 12:40

a lot of people will not like what i am about to say and many will agree with me too.

i light of the Harvey Wienstien indictment it seems like there are a lot of allegations going around. now, i am not saying they are not true or that indeed they are.what i am saying is some of them sound a bit too vague for my liking.

example: when Angelina jolie accused winestien she didn't give many details at all, she couldn't say when where or what happened.

now i personally think Rapp is talking shit and Kevin Spacy just decide it would be a good time to come out. im on the fence with this one to tell you the truth. but the have been many others now.

i may come across as an asshole when i say this but i think rape and assault charges should only be limited to five years. after five years you cant bring it up. otherwise any man or woman can say what they want and the person on the receiving end probably wont remember.

So far you are wrong not only in your opinion, but also in your predication that many will agree with you.

Here is a primer to educate you. Sexual assault and rape are not at all about sex but are about power and the exertion of power over another person. That being the case, this usually happens when the predator has more power than their prey (and I used that word purposely). This can be an employer, a teacher, a mentor, a coach, an older friend or relative, or some other such relationship. It is hard for a victim to come forward because of that and many take some time to do so fearful of repercussions of telling and/or dealing with the police and justice system to follow through with the allegation. In a situation where someone is younger and/or less powerful it make take years for them to work up the courage and confidence to confront this and speak up. That is the end of the nice and calm part of my response. Now, the less nice part. You're right about one thing. You are an asshole.

If they do kill off the character, how? Maybe assassination.

Claire could have him killed and have it look like an assassination to get sympathy. Not a stretch in this story.

When you're testifying in court, you don't get to go off on some extemporaneous soliloquy. As soon as you did you'd be likely to be told to answer the question asked. And if there are things you'd like to say but the person asking the questions doesn't want to come out, your not likely to get the chance. So you're example holds but only to a limited extent.

On the other hand, if there are things you don't want to reveal and the lawyer questioning you asks for more because your answer is obviously incomplete or off point to deflect, you must answer. They can continue to seek specific answers rather than glib generalizations. Pile up enough "I don't recall" responses and your credibility may suffer.

Agreed. There's getting to be so much dirt thrown in the air by all concerned that it's difficult to determine who if anyone is telling anything remotely connected to the truth. That is if "truth" is even a thing anymore.

If I tell you half of a story, and all of what I say is factual, but leave out the stuff that makes my position look bad, did I tell the truth?

No, you did not if you leave pertinent facts out. Sessions is at the least guilty of lawyerly answers that parse words and deflect a direct answer and at worst directly lying. Time will tell as more information comes out. What does seem clear now is that he is desperately trying to cover his ass.

One interesting thing I would like to know is why did the Papa dude think it was necessary to lie to the FBI? As a result he is a convicted felon with all the bad stuff that comes with that moniker. If he has just told the truth he would not be in any trouble, there would have been nothing wrong with him talking to the Russians unless he was somehow acting as an agent for them, then it would be trouble. But assuming he was not in that position he could have told the truth and had no more to do with it all. Certainly he would not have had to become an informant with all that entails. So the unknown about him is interesting... could be much more we do not know...

I agree with you about wondering what he did. My sense is that it was more than minimal which could explain why he took the plea and perhaps why he was afraid enough to lie initially. The investigators are putting together the pieces about meetings and coordination with the Russians during the campaign. He may have a lot of information and who knows what more they found out in the months since his arrest and plea if he was wearing a wire.

Every indictment brings this a step closer to the White House. This is just the way cases regarding organized crime are run, from the bottom of the food chain to the top, flipping the accused to give evidence along the way.

The net is getting closer and closer. Tonight's news reported that Papadopoulos, who made a plea deal, has testified under oath that he discussed a trip to Russia with Jeff Sessions, the current AG, during the campaign. This contradicts all of Sessions' slippery testimony about contacts with Russia and what he knew. As well Jared Kusher has turned documents to the investigation. They are interested in him as part of the Russian meddling issue as well as his role in Trump's firing of Comey and the firing of James Comey.

This pisses me off. I do like the show, but even so, they don't really need him to continue. Robin Wright as Clair is amazeballs and if they give her a platform, she will blow us all away.

I know. I binge watch it as each new season comes out. She is fantastic in it. A modern day Lady Macbeth.

Quite right! The right-wing is very skilled at framing the narrative, painting the left with made-up sound-bites like 'identity politics' that stick with low-information voters. Just because the right doesn't value blacks, gays, and other minorities as fellow human beings with the same rights they claim for themselves, the platform of the Democrats, who do value these people abandoned by the conservatives, is portrayed as a single-issue: favoring the dispossessed over 'true Americans'. It's a very convenient ploy, couched in bigotry.

Democrats need to be vociferous in defining their own narrative, informing the low-information right wing-nut working class that they have more in common with the oppressed whom they villify than they do the billionaire class whom they invariably vote to support.

That is it precisely. The GOP has managed for decades to get people to vote against their own self interests with dog whistle politics. Their appeal has a subtext of racism, an isolationist nationalism, and now anti-immigrant scares. People are made to forget that the US was founded by and populated with immigrants. These appeals are wrapped in the flag and label any other stance as un-American. Then when voted into office the GOP's crony politics continues. Tax cuts for the rich. Contracts for their friends. Dimunition of regulation that leads to situations like the mercury in the water in Michigan, always in low income areas of course. The GOP works against workers' rights and those of women and minorities. They pander to the evangelicals with pro-life and homophobic stances, forgetting the basic tenet of separation of church and state. The continue to bait and switch election after election. The Dems have to go back to basics and convince working and middle class Americans that they will govern in their interest. They have to fight the efforts of the GOP governors to suppress minority voting which is assumed to go Democrat.

With the election of Trump, there is a segment of the population that is convinced the clock can be turned back to the 1950s, the good old days for white men but no one else. The Dems have to show that these policies are not for the greater good and motivate those turned off by politics to show up and vote for a party that will actually work for them. Staying home is not an option in 2018.

The "constant deflection" is because these issues have come up before. How they were handled, or mishandled, in the past offers some guidance on what we can expect in this case and in future cases.

The OP's question was "Will he be impeached." I think comparisons to previous incidents shed some light on the possible answers. Is there some reason you're opposed to that?

The justice system in common law countries like yours and mine is based on precedent, but these are the decisions in cases that have been tried and decided. You are entitled to your speculation about Hillary, but that doesn't impact the allegations against Trump and his team or what Mueller will uncover and act upon. For some it takes their attention away from real transgressions to divert them to another shiny object. Not you, of course. So, to answer the question, I think Trump will be impeached or leave office to avoid it. Discussing evidence against him is relevant to that question. Discussing charges against his associates is relevant. Fantasies about Hillary in an orange jumpsuit are not.

Cause Hilary would have been all about supporting white supremacy, promoting homophobes to positions of power, and giving a big thumbs up to the misogynists of the world. your view of right and wrong is kind of twisted - and you call me disgusting. heh. too cute.

The problem with your reasoning is, that DOJ already investigated Hillary and found no reason to indict her, and Onama never gave a reason to be investigated.

That said, why are either Hillary's or Obama's alleged crimes relevant for the question if Trump and his associates should be investigated? That should not be determined by how good or bad others are or were, but by information about the actions and behaviour of those under investigation.

Thank you. Nothing that President Obama and/or Hillary Clinton did or did not do has any relevance in assessing and investigating Trump and his team. Zero. The constant deflection is perhaps because his base cannot defend the indefensible.

I get it. There are some of you here and a proportion of the US population out there that hate Hillary Clinton and think the sun shines out of Donald Trump's ass. Fine. That is your opinion and how you voted. However, no matter how much you hate her, it doesn't transform Trump into something he is not: a leader and a statesman.

As news comes out about transgressions in his administration his standard strategy is to provide a new shiny object, a new accusation against Clinton, for you to focus on and divert your attention from what he is doing or has done. That doesn't change what Mueller and his team are investigating and will prove. The Trump campaign and members of its administration have conspired with the Russians to skew the US election, thereby undermining American democracy, the same democracy that the right holds so dear. There have been many ethical issues whereby he and his family have enriched themselves contrary to norms of governing. No less important is Trump attempting to obstruct justice in asking Comey to go easy on Flynn and then firing Comey when he didn't. It will take some time and patience until we see where this goes, but this will be a serious as Watergate was for Nixon.

No amount of bleating Hillary did this or that will change it. I could lay out the facts to refute the latest allegations regarding uranium, and how it would involve nine levels of government, but you will neither listen nor accept it, because it defies the narrative you prefer. I watched a political panel last night and someone said something that has become obvious but is worth repeating. No matter what is reported that runs counter to the Trump fable, no matter how ironclad the evidence and reputable the source, his base will not believe it. I don't expect to change that with anything I say, but I will warn you that it will all end badly and you will be more than disappointed. You will understand then how you have been conned and had your hopes taken advantage of by a world class grifter.

Back to the original question.

"This is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end of the beginning." Winston Churchill

The first indictments are public now as well as a plea deal. Mueller and his team have been working methodically layer by layer to find out where the collusion was and by whom. This is a good start and I have no doubt that Trump and his team are nervous tonight. It is the first time since Watergate that a campaign chair has been indicted. I wonder if Don Jr. and Jared Kushner will be next. I think that Don Jr. is Trump's Fredo, the dumb weak link.

This is not just about money and misinformation and collusion with Russia. There is another thread regarding obstruction of justice. Both undermine American democracy by efforts to skew an election and pervert the rule of law respectively. No one is above the law, including Donald Trump.

If the US survived Watergate and Richard Nixon, it can survive this. Trump will eventually be impeached or retire early to spend more time with his family and play golf unless of course he is charged with obstruction of justice.

We just have to be patient. Another quote: The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.

I hope that everyone will focus their attention locally to defeat vulnerable GOP candidates. What Sprite described is beyond anything even conservatives have ever contemplated doing. Human rights and civil liberties are the basic elements of western democracies and they are in danger under this administration, more so if Pence replaces Trump.

It's a valid point, Trinks. I should have been more clear. When I say I'm opposed to those "in-the-know" doing nothing, I don't necessarily mean they should go to the police or name any victim. They could do something though. Like warn other actresses, refuse to do work for his studio, privately speak to directors and tell them they should be on the lookout for the safety of their actresses. Let directors know, you've been told there is a potential problem, if you intervene between HW and some actress and something happens, you're just as culpable.

Each offense is different, how it should be dealt with is different. There's the well being of the victim, to be sure. All I know is, doing nothing isn't the right thing. Decades of doing nothing has left us with loooong list of people who have been victimized.

edit... might I add.. Kevin Spacey's "apology" for attempted molestation of a 14 year old is utterly horrendous. For decades, gay men were viewed as pedophiles and perverts, by piggy-backing his apology with coming out, he reaffirmed those stupid stereotypes. What an asshole.

Excusing his behaviour because he was drunk only adds to my disgust. And I have to add that there was no necessity for him to announce he is gay. It was not exactly news.

I think your response proved my point.

I took your angel away because you did not begin this argument with clean hands. It was you doing the labeling. You called anyone who disagrees with you as much more left, Marxist and Stalinist - the furthest point on the spectrum. Not true. Not appropriate. I tried to compare that to calling right wing GOP supporters white nationalist neo-nazis, but did not label you that way. You also implied that Canadian commenters who disagree with Trump are the Canadian antifa. Again a gross exaggeration. The person name calling here is you.

What is going on on US campuses may be related to the poisonous atmosphere of US politics. However, do not assume that we all agree with the suppression of free speech. In any event that is an entirely different discussion.

As to getting away from Seax's topic, you did that with your post, immediately following his.

If it bothers you that you get pushback on your politics and support for Trump, you are probably in the wrong place. I am certain that there are right leaning sites and fora where you can have your opinions echoed to your satisfaction.

I did not prove your point. I identified your skewed views of those who oppose you. You proved your own point by not being respectful or rational. The only hateful words I read were yours.

Bloody lovely!

Washington, DC has never had any shortage of scumbags. But some carry on as if Trump is the first they've ever seen. Any attempt to point out that they're wrong becomes an attempt to divert attention to Hillary. You do realize that Hillary was no Mother Teresa, right?

I do. Even Mother Teresa was no paragon of virtue. However, countering every charge against Trump/Clinton with one against the opposite party does not make the charges any less or more believable or true. Charges against either should be judged based on the evidence presented and the proved veracity of that evidence.

You should post this in the Spa. Impossible to get a rational discussion in this place. It's full of Marxists who act like Stalinists, all gathered under the umbrella of Democrat. Hope you have your crash hat on for the arrival of the Canadian antifa, fully masked. Brave post Seax!

https://upload.lushstories.com/1165536983-forum free speech anti.jpg

You're right. No rational debate is possible in an arena where anyone who does not agree with Trump is labelled a Marxist/Stalinist. That is as appropriate as labeling his supporters as white nationalist neo-nazis. I believe both are wrong. I guess I am member of the Canadian antifa in your view. Also wrong. Your posted cartoon is ironic given what you said. This is how politics gets hateful rather than being a meaningful and respectful debate.

Maybe we should just do away with elections and debate, rip up the Constitution, and crown Trump. He could then rule by fiat and make all your dreams come true. Who needs democracy and free speech anyhow if you have to tolerate alternate points of view?

This thread is so interesting. It demonstrates that there is no accusation against either President Obama or Hillary Clinton that a segment of the electorate will not unquestionably believe. In an era where truth is fake news and lies are alternate facts, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I am reminded of something that the late Senator Patrick Moynihan said, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

I trust that Robert Mueller, a man of impeccable integrity, will get to the truth, layer by layer, as high up as it goes.

In the law, one usually starts with a crime and works the trails of breadcrumbs till they lead to one or more suspects. Here we're seeing that turned on it's head. Mueller has a list of suspects, and is following the breadcrumbs hoping to find a crime.

But what happens if one or more of the trails he's following lead to a certain residence in Chappaqua, NY? Are we going to play fair and demand a hanging after a fair trial? Or does the resident of that house get a pass because it's old news?

This is the standard play of Trump supporters: in the face of any allegation against him or his team divert attention to Hillary Clinton. Adele has provided a response already to that canard.

Nobody is demanding a hanging. Just that the justice system do its job and that Congress does the same with impeachment proceedings if there is sufficient evidence to go forward.

Speculation is rampant as to who it might be... mannafort and flynn are certainly good guesses, and it would surely be amazing if it were kushner or little trump. However, it is just as likely to be someone less obvious like flynn's son, or carter page, or one of the lawyers entangled in the mess, or even some minor player we never heard of. Mueller is more likely to start with the smaller fish and work his way up the line (which also sends a message to some of those further up the food chain he is getting closer). Some of the bigger fish could end up have multiple charges brought against them, and one line of thought is that Mueller would want to have all the info tied up so a whole list of charges could be filed at once, rather than piecemeal.

In view of the fact that new information continues to surface nearly daily. it is still too early to assume he is ready to start hitting the higher ups just yet. UNLESS, one of them has info and he knows it, and is using the indictment as a bargaining tool to get the info. Also, there is a chance that the indictment will not be unsealed and served on Monday, but at a later date.

I agree with you. It is too early for it to be high on the food chain. Mueller and his team are building cases from the outer rim of the circle inward, slowly and methodically, and will uncover what actually happened. I would be shocked if there weren't both links and collusion with the Russians on the part of Manafort, Flynn, and others, possibly even Don Jr. and Kushner. Let us remember that information, or in this case disinformation, has value skewing the perceptions of the electorate. It does not have to be money contributed illegally to a campaign. They will follow the Watergate rule and follow the money and see where and to whom it leads.

As opposed to the constant spin from the WH and their proxies on Fox to divert attention to Hillary Clinton. What will be interesting will be the reaction to the indictments and how far into the WH they reach. There may well be people who plead to lesser charges in exchange for testimony against higher ups. I have no doubt that this leads to the Oval Office.

Me, too. I hope that it is the beginning of the undoing of the Trump administration with criminal indictments against several members of his team, perhaps even a family member, and lay the ground for impeachment against Trump.

Any guesses as to who might be first? I think Manafort or Flynn for financial crimes and their connection to and collusion with the Russians during the election.
