Topic Question about Prologue for all you authors and writters on Lush Help!!!
15 Jan 2014 14:35
I agree with the above advice. Perhaps you can take the time to read some of the stories on the site that have been awarded an Editor's Pick. They will give you an idea of how some of the best writers here introduce and describe their characters.
I think that many people will agree that they do not like reading what has come to be called a"laundry list" of character attributes, e.g. John was tall, dark, and handsome with washboard abs and hazel eyes. Mary was petite, brunette, had 34C breasts, narrow hips and green eyes.
You can find ways to work the description of your characters' looks and personalities within your story.

Where do you find this? I've check in "My Stories" but it just gives me movement, or editing, or hiding or deleting. The Category column doesn't seem to have a Stories List Manager.
PA, go to "My Stories" and choose the "edit" option for the story whose category you want to change. Then pick the new category and click continue and then update in the following window. That's it.

Bump. Just to bring these to everyone's attention again.
I also wanted to remind all writers not to rely on spell check alone. Spell check will not catch mistakes that are words or errors like possessives without apostrophes. It is necessary to read through your story carefully. If spelling is not your forte, perhaps ask for some proofreading help.

Topic Guidelines for images posted with stories
12 Nov 2013 18:56
The rules for cover images at the top of stories are the same as those for avatars. No hardcore shots, closeups of genitals, or photos depicting insertion are permitted. This list is not exhaustive. Moderators retain the right to remove images deemed unsuitable for this site.
If a story can be approved but the image is not permitted, the story moderator will remove the image, approve the story, and send a note to the author to let them know their image wasn't suitable.

This young Pakistani girl was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for education for girls. She is probably the bravest girl in the world, and she speaks for millions of girls who also want to go to school. She was shot at point blank range in the head and miraculously survived.
She has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Topic What's your opinion on abortion?
22 Jul 2013 08:20
I am pro- choice, especially in cases of rape and incest, for the mother's health issues or those of the unborn child. Abortion should be legal, available, and accessible for the poor. It should not be a substitute for birth control, but I do not believe in bringing children into the world to circumstances where they will be abused and neglected.
I respect those who do not agree with abortion. That is their choice. No one who is anti-choice will ever be forced to have an abortion. They should not have the power to choose for the rest of us. They should channel their efforts to adopting children in the child welfare system who are unwanted rather than imposing their views on others.

I use Clinique products and some from other companies. The best thing you can do for your skin is keep it clean and the best way to do that is with a Clarisonic device and your favourite cleanser. Literally one minute morning and night. Best money I ever spent on skincare.
Topic Male or Female authors?
17 Jul 2013 14:56
I find this an interesting question as I have co-written with two men now. People reading the stories have said that the writing is seamless and that they could not tell which parts were written by each of us. While I understand that men and women may bring different sensibilities to writing, it is possible to speak to everyone without it being specifically a male or female voice.

Topic Lecturer shagging uni student, taboo or no?
03 Jul 2013 13:12
Not at all. The power difference, duty of care, perception of bias and all the complications that this would cause remain the same. As well, the prohibition in most university employment contracts or rules of professional conduct would not make an exception for a mature student.
Topic Lecturer shagging uni student, taboo or no?
02 Jul 2013 15:03
I believe that although it is not illegal, at most colleges and universities a professor/lecturer carrying on with a student would be considered unprofessional conduct. There are multiple reasons for this: the duty of care, the power differential, and the possibility of bias. So, while they may be consenting adults strictly speaking, this is not a relationship of equals and is generally frowned upon.
Think about it. It opens the doors to all kinds of problems especially if it goes wrong. Allegations of sexual harassment. Allegations of unfair treatment/marking because of the sexual relationship or its end. Not a good idea.
Topic Ratings and comments

Seems there's a little resistance to the scrapping of the forced commenting feature.
I gather some people would go further and want to be able to choose which scores they'd like comments to be forced on? I can't help but think that would cause more scoring bias. If people are forced to comment on a 1 or 2 score for example, then someone who doesn't want to leave a comment, is either not going to vote it a 1 or 2 (maybe a 3 instead), or simply not vote at all. That's not going to help the author long term, it will artificially keep their scores higher than they should be.
Random thought - it would be good to have the option to turn commenting on / off, and voting on / off, at story level, rather than across the board.
I think that is what 1ball is after.
