Painful death.

I agree, but tell myself that there are lots of drugs for that. My fear would be dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

It would be really really nice if you could edit your comments on stories. So many times I make mistakes and I need to delete the whole message and start again.

It's even more annoying when typing on a phone.

Please, Please, Please could an EDIT button be made.

I try to "like" comments on my stories and don't always write a response as well if I don't have time. I wonder if the "like" button could stay changed from blue to grey once you have done that so that you don't repeat liking the same comment.

Still think the banner on the front page that features members or highlights comps should also be a place to feature a randomly picked EP or RR story. Have it cycle like it does now but just add a story pick to the mix. Would be a good way to actually recommend a good story to new visitors on the front page. You could even have it feature the last winner of a comp or something like that too.

All good ideas. To add a tweak to it, perhaps the top ten stories of the last competition could be cycled. We have buttons for EP and RR stories on the front page, but new readers do not know what they are. Perhaps a short description under each of these buttons would draw more attention to them.

I know Gav's been playing with the block feature for a while, but can the block be two-fold? By that I mean, if you have someone blocked, then you shouldn't be able to send that person PMs.

It's rather foolish to go through the effort of blocking someone only to send them scathing PMs to which they can't respond .

Some people might like being able to vent and not allowing any response. Your suggestion seems more fair.

I was a senior story moderator for about two years and admit that my standards were and are high. RRs are not handed out like jellybeans as a treat. Sometimes the moderator verifying the story is so impressed that it happens immediately. Sometimes the RR is awarded later by a different moderator who read the story on their own time. Of course different people have different tastes and that is only human. RRs are meant to bring attention to stories that show talent and might otherwise be overlooked, particularly if not written by a high profile author here. As Steph said, any story moderator who handed RRs out indiscriminately would have been chastised.

As to some competition entries getting RRs when the competition is over, there is a reason for this. Story mods are on the competition judging panel. It would not be appropriate for them to award RRs before the competition is closed and the top ten stories are announced by Nicola. The panel members judge all entries on an equal basis.

This story was written as an entry for the "Money Talks" competition last summer. It made the top ten list. Although it had to be shorter than I was used to as there was a limit of 3500 words, I think that I succeeded in telling a good story. I would be pleased if it were read by more people and thank you in advance for taking time to do so.

My reference to Zionism came from how you accused me of being a neocon in light of how neoconservatism includes Zionist foreign policy. Opposing that doesn't make you an ethnic bigot, especially since nations don't have to be ethnically self-determined, and especially since Jews aren't necessarily defined by their race. They can be defined by their religion which contains disputable values. If you understand how Jews believe they're chosen by God to bring light unto nations and find that arrogant, then you have good reason to not advocate Jewish self-determination since you understand that Jews don't respect the self-determination of others. In fact, we can even see this in the Middle East itself from how much Israel interferes in the internal affairs of its neighbors either directly through military intervention, or indirectly through propaganda and cultural imperialism.

Interesting. Many people assert that there is a difference between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism and that Israeli policy can be criticized without being anti-Semitic. However, you combine both in your posts and your bigotry is clear as day.

The President's dog is seventh in line for the presidency, as long as the dog was born on US soil and is equal to 35 years old or older in dog years.

Ted Cruz has a Bijon Frise that was born in Canada, so there is talk that Trump will sue to ensure that this dog will not have precedence over his pug.

I really hate this argument. The, 'you guys did it thirty years ago, so it's okay for use do do it now' mind set is exactly the problem. Do you really believe that is proper? Do you believe it is a responsible way to govern? At what point do you believe an elected official should sacrifice a piece of his personal agenda for the good of the whole?

I will admit, once, long ago I was one of those political lightning rods. I honestly looked at the opposing party as the nations biggest threat. Then, one day I had a chance to have a two hour sit down, at a gun show of all places, with a Senatorial candidate from the Libertarian party. He was an eloquent black man, but I cannot remember his name. I will have to look him up sometime.

Regardless, It was an eye opening conversation. Believe me, one doesn't often hear both sides of the truth, but that day I did. I came away realizing that many people look at politics like a sport. They support their team with a blind passion, simply because they want to win. Results don't matter, and neither does doing what's right. Just like a baseball fan being happy by receiving the benefit of a bad call, it is about winning, not about what is best for the country.

That is what you are doing. Saying 'they screwed Bork, so we can screw one of theirs' is the same mentality of chanting at a hockey game. The problem is, bad decisions in this game will follow you home, sneak into your bedroom and completely infiltrate your life. Is that really worth the satisfaction of the win?

It wasn't to me, and I put down my political Pom Poms and started thinking of the country as a whole.

Thank you, Milik. I wish that the candidates, incumbents and voters thought as you do. The problems of the country would more likely be resolved. There was a time when consensus was not a dirty word, but that was before the Tea Party and other political extremists took over. There is no civil discourse in American politics nowadays.

Topic Justice Scalia Dead - President Obama Pledges to Nominate New Supreme Court Justice
Posted 17 Feb 2016 07:51

First, and foremost, the President's duties include nominating people for the Supreme Court. The Senate's duties include accepting or rejecting said nominees. To do anything else is a dereliction of duty. For the Republican's to filibuster falls into the same category. What they don't seem to realize is, if the balance of power shifts in the fall election, then a liberal justice is a shoe in. It won't matter if Donald, Hillary, Ted, Bernie or Marco gets elected. Their best shot is to go forward, urging the President to put up a moderate now, rather than holding out in hopes of getting a strict constructionist conservative appointed to the bench in a years time. Will they do this? Probably not. Our Congressman and Senators seem to have forgotten, regardless of party, that working democracies REQUIRE compromise.

This is a concise explanation of the entire issue politically. Milik's comment is on the money about how things should be.

Again, the Democrat controlled Senate did the same thing with Bork in 1987. They were obstructionist in the first place, and don't get to criticize Republicans without being hypocrites.

No, Bork's nomination went to the Senate for hearings. He caved and withdrew being unable to withstand the questioning. That is completely different from not allowing the nomination process to happen.

Topic Justice Scalia Dead - President Obama Pledges to Nominate New Supreme Court Justice
Posted 16 Feb 2016 21:09

Justice Scalia had what he called an originalist view of the Constitution, not allowing anything to be read into its meaning to deal with issues of our time as opposed to the time of the framers. That being said, an honest application of his theory would say that the US Constitution gives the President his power until January 20, 2017. He has every right to appoint a successor to Justice Scalia under article 2 section 2 of the Constitution. The Senate may advise and consent to the nomination. They do not have the right to bar its submission.

What a way for the GOP to honour Scalia's memory, by continuing to be the party of "no". But we are dealing with people who stated bluntly that their mission was to make Barack Obama a failure, never mind finding consensus and working to improve the lives of the American people.

Topic Should creationism be taught in schools?

Absolutely not. Teach religion in religious institutions or parochial schools. Creationism is not an alternative to evolution any more than the theory that the earth is flat is an alternate scientific theory about our planet.

Topic The amount of time for story approval...
Posted 06 Feb 2016 10:30

Of course Buz is right. I wanted to add a couple of points. The best way to ensure that your story is approved and posted by the moderator reviewing it is to edit carefully and comply with site guidelines. The fewer spelling, grammar, and formatting errors in your story, the more likely it will be approved. Stories can be delayed because they are sent back to writers to make corrections that are beyond the amount of tinkering that moderators will do for you.

As well, make sure your story meets the minimum but does not exceed the maximum word count for a single story. If your story is part of a series, remember that only one story can be submitted daily. You should not submit any part until the previous part has been approved and posted to maintain the story sequence.

I wrote a cheat sheet for story submission some time ago when I was a story moderator. It can be seen here:

https://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_postst26962_Advice-before-submitting-a-story.aspx

Finally, as Buz mentioned, there are dozens of stories submitted each day. The hours of time to review them is given by volunteers. A thank you when you receive your approval note is appreciated by those who do the work.

Topic Sex vs Story
Posted 05 Feb 2016 14:14

I guess that I am one of the writers who has the view that Verbal mentioned, one different from his.

For me description to give the reader a sense of the time and place is important, as well as some idea about the characters. I hate what we generally call the laundry list for character description (e.g. 5'6", blonde, green eyes, 36C breasts and long legs, or some similar list for a male character including penis length) because I think it is lazy writing. I do like to include information about the characters as the story is told to paint a picture in the reader's mind. I might describe the room they are in or the meal they are eating, with the intention of appealing to and using all of the senses, not just turning people on with graphic connect the dots sex. Readers have remarked that I really take them into the story.

I think that either Verbal's way or mine can work. It really depends on the ability of the writer to convey their story in a meaningful manner.
