Topic RUMPLATIONS: Honky Tonk and Cyber Bar
Posted 12 Jan 2017 08:15

The good news is the contest results haven't been posted. That means hope can still over-match memories of past non-winning entries. ;)

Tough decisions to be made? The crash yesterday? Judges still hung over from New Year's? I'm not really expecting this story to be a winner but I'm still eager to see the results.

And a hot toddy will be necessary. Temp is dropping to -8 Celsius tonight and into tomorrow. Will probably need skates to get around because everything is currently wet from rain last night.

Here's a couple bottles of local rum I picked up in Barbados. Might help spruce up your collection a bit, Rump. Now open one and get me a rum punch toot sweet. Only back three days and I'm already missing the Caribbean.

Topic Do people actually watch award shows?
Posted 10 Jan 2017 11:31

I've kind of been ignoring them for the past couple decades. They aren't always the best measure of quality, often they are more about who the industry feels like patting on the back (e.g. the aging actor who wins for some recent so-so film even though they appeared in, but didn't win for, a string of classics years before). And, frankly, they aren't usually that interesting anymore. I might tune in a music awards show if there are interesting performances but even those usually hit Youtube fairly soon after now so even that's not much of a reason.

Pretty face, long hair, nice pair of tits (not too big, not too small, just right); there are a number of physical features that I find arousing. An imagination and a willingness to use it would be a non-physical one.

81. Maybe he's been mentioned already and I missed it, but Col. Chris Hadfield. Probably the most famous and popular astronaut of the last couple decades and lives just down the highway from me in Sarnia (in fact, their local airport is named for him). First man to record a music video in zero-g.

Topic Boobs too big?
Posted 29 Dec 2016 05:23

It's more a matter of being proportional to the body type. Large breasts can look good on some women, but I've seen some smaller porn-stars get ridiculously large implants and it kind of ruins their look. On the other hand, I have no complaints about small breasts - they're usually really cute.

Seconded. I love breasts in general moreso than a specific size (in fact, women I've been attracted to have ranged from A to DD and perhaps larger than that in one case), but sometimes you get breasts that just look like they don't belong on the woman's body. Usually, as JAGYK suggests, porn stars, strippers, etc. who have obviously gone overboard with implants.

One thing I've noticed is that I've been more attracted to voluptuous women in later years whereas when younger I leaned more to slim, smaller-breasted looks. Not sure if that's an aging thing or just shifting tastes.

Topic Which improvements or features would you like to see added?
Posted 23 Dec 2016 08:38

Maybe a more... customizable reading experience?

And to that effect, maybe even a "reader" of a sort for reading stories. Maybe an option to choose your background coloring for reading stories.

Storiesonline I think has this function.

For my eyes at least, it's far more comfortable reading with a soft gray background than white. Like with the Kindle App as well.

Just spitballing out my ass.

I could get behind this. I use Overdrive (company that works with libraries to provide ebook lending) and their app allows you to do a "Sepia" colour scheme which has a yellowish background behind black lettering. I find easier on the eyes for reading than black on white or vice versa. If the author allows PDF, you might be able to do something with it, but it would be nice to be able to adjust the native Lush reading page (and maybe you can in some browsers, I have never tried or looked into it).

Topic Voting record
Posted 22 Dec 2016 07:35

I would strongly oppose that and in fact not accept it. That should be private. Many people wouldn't put up with it and leave. The only cases where someone's voting record should be made public is if they are an elected politician and their votes on laws should be available to their constituents. Other than that doing such thing is an invasion of privacy. I am very sure that such an intrusive, counterproductive thing would not even be considered here on Lush.

Your Lush votes aren't really private from the person you're voting on, though. I get an alert every time someone votes on a story and if I flip right over and know that story's record fairly well (unless it's a comp entry of course), I can pretty much guess what they voted (e.g. If it is all 5s and there's now a 4, they voted 4. If it is still all 5s, then they voted 5). Low scores are even easier to figure out because, to be frank, very few people give them. The only way to make Lush voting completely private would be to anonymize those alerts (e.g. it just says "Someone scored on your story" instead of "Buz scored on your story"). And even then, you can probably guess who voted if there's a comment posted around the same time.

That said, I still don't see the utility of publicly posting users' averages. To my eye, it just becomes a tool for triggering drama. Then again, I don't worry too much about scores. If I'm getting comments, I don't worry too much about the numbers.

And, as I've commented in the past, the scoring system is a bit pointless when most people use it as a Like system by putting a 5 on anything they like and just not scoring anything they don't. Might as well just have a "Like" button plus comments.

Topic If aliens came to our planet...
Posted 21 Dec 2016 12:21

Water is EVERYWHERE! Comets are covered in it, it's on moons of Jupiter and Saturn, it just keeps showing up (along with complex molecules that can create life). I think life is very common in the universe. Comets are sort of special delivery packages for water and complex molecules.

No like button, so I'll just quote for truth.

If aliens come, it won't be to take our resources. Any resource they could get here, they could get just as or more easily elsewhere. Everything we have on Earth exists in abundance elsewhere, if not in our solar system then somewhere else in the galaxy.

Aliens invading Earth would be doing it (a) because they see us as a threat to be eliminated or (b) because of some kind of "manifest destiny" that leads them to want to dominate all other civilizations. IOW, it would mean they are rather like us.

Topic On the Hypocrisy of Anti-Republican Flag Burners
Posted 21 Dec 2016 12:16

I think it is immoral and tragically sad! I don't see how burning your Nation's flag ensures freedom and liberty. They can exist without that behaviour. Perhaps strapping on a suicide vest and running into Congress is a suitable alternative?

No. That kind of hyperbole serves no purpose other than to be inflammatory. By equating flag-burning with terrorism, you trivialize the latter.

I don't agree with flag-burning myself, at least as a protest against the government. The flag is not a symbol of the government, it is a symbol of the country and, as such, those objecting to the government's behaviour should be waving it, not burning it.

Would I make it illegal? Probably not. Freedom of expression. And at least it doesn't involve inflicting harm on people (unless you're careless with the fire).

Do I shake my head at the stupidity of it as a form of protest? Sure.
