Topic Have You Ever Insulted A Stranger Because of Their Looks?
Posted 22 Feb 2015 10:23

Oh wow. I don't even know how to respond to that. Who does this??

I don't comment people's (strangers) looks at all, unless I really like what I see. What I do comment is if my friends are crossing limits with make up or outfits.

All of this has nothing to do with freedom of speech, they are just really awful manners. They are insults actually.

edit: let me add this. I actually do comment people's behavior, if it disturbs me, meaning, I tell them with what I have problem with. But that is different topic.

WHAT GIVES???>????

My FRIEND, Mysteria27, (a writer I first met when I screamed at her, ASK HER...) has recently been LIMITED BY POLICY to submit ONLY three times a week... (This NOTWITHSTANDING our REGULAR submission rules...) So WHO'S POLICY IS THAT???

Mysteria27 is AMONG the most read posters here. A FUCK READ writer... (Among current posting rules...)

NOT MY THING BTW!!!

So NOW, it seems, we are LIMITING our most popular writers...

NOT WHAT I SIGNED ON FOR!!!!!!!!

I remember one thread where was discussed if it would be a good idea to make official site rule that writers can post once per week. I personally support that idea.

This is private free site and owner holds the rights to make the rules without any democratic debates. If Nicola wants to eliminate in any way poetry corner, it is her right to do so. Do I agree with it, no, but only because poetry was and is huge part of this site and contributes a lot to it. People who read and write poetry joined just because of it and now that site is in full blossom and poetry corner is not needed anymore it can be put aside, shows different side of human nature. Will I judge it, probably won't but I dislike that kind of behavior.

Wow this thread taking shocking twists and turns....
May I suggest this thread be closed and deleted because we're not going to end up anywhere and more and more members would jump in to the action..... And as long as a member is a mod, they may not be allowed to express their personal opinion in such a way, rather in their tenure as a mod, they should only act as the custodian of the trust of Lush owners or the official policy.... :)

excuse me, but why locked and deleted? just because in your mind they aren't going nowhere, that doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to say what they think.

that being said, i want to point out that mods do have way too much work to be going through one poem 3 times, it is ridiculous. plus, if some think that was treated unfair should act on it privately and immediately as it happens, not through the forum. it shows just lack of respect and good manners.

Topic Political Correctness

Article didn't give me answer on my question why PC is created but google did.
Political correctness or political correctitude (adjectivally, politically correct; both forms commonly abbreviated to PC) is an attitude or policy of being careful not to offend or upset any group of people in society who are believed to have a disadvantage. Mainstream usage of the term began in the 1990s by right-wing politicians who used the term as a shorthand way of conveying their concerns about the left in academia and in culture.

Anyway, as I see it PC is being used and abused as excuse (and should be treated as such, as excuse) to hide behind opinions that are expressed and it really doesn't matter on what end you are. It is a tool that in circumstances is used against you. If PC can silence you and make your statements less important and valuable and be able to shut down debate or argument, just because someone used PC card, makes no sense to me. I understand that sensibility is high, but not all people or if you want groups, share same sensibility.

I wonder how Charlie Hebdo fits in this. Was he the one who was using his absolute right to express what he wants even though he was offending 'disadvantaged' group, because as Amanda Taub said, it is not about censoring free speech, but a term that is used to dismiss ideas that make us uncomfortable. To dismiss ideas that make us uncomfortable, what does that mean?! If this is the case, than everyone can be offended by everything and feel that whoever is making them uncomfortable is dismissing that with PC. But isn't that a bit hypocritical? Can we pick and choose when something is free speech and when is not?

I am not saying that people shouldn't be more sensible toward others, but in my opinion PC won't get us there.

Topic Political Correctness

There is difference between people who want to humiliate another by being offensive, and people who are getting offended because PC wasn't used. These two themes shouldn't be mixed together.

In general, I am quite opposer for PC being used, but I'll read article later on and give more thoughts on this. I wonder why PC is used or created anyway, but suppose article will give some clues.
