I ever knew was need and motion,
this was where we shed our skin
into something more and could
never quite be the same again.

That's what I'd remember the most,
not the quiet beyond trembling release
or how you rested against my body after
and the breathing slowly rippled through,
seemed to carry you into some dark stream,
not the distant neon lights painting
the city's edge like electric rainbows
but the way you gave me something
beautiful that I don't know how to name.
