A beautiful morning

The early morning sun warms her face,
A light glow in her cheeks.
A breeze ruffling locks of hair.
Birds singing a cheerful melody,
Welcoming a new day,
Calling out to find a mate.

She sips her steaming coffee,
Closing her eyes, taking a moment
Just to sense the life all around.
A cat lazily grooms and stretches,
Gazing at her for a moment
Before striding off, finding a place to doze.

The quiet and calm all around
Slowly sinks into her,
Filling her with a peace she has searched for.
She used to find it within arms of another,
Now she needs to find it in herself
And a beautiful morning is a welcomed aid.

The day she became his
She had found a new part of herself.
He became her world, her sanctuary, her joy.
In his embrace she found endless pleasure,
When he closed his arms once so welcoming,
She fell apart, a life shattered.

She couldn’t face another day,
Stuck in a cage of sorrow.
But days came and went
Regardless if she wanted them or not.
Today, she realizes, her morning was enjoyed,
Today she could face a day on her own.

Exhaling, she lets it slowly sink in.
She can do this, she can be enough on her own.
Her happiness isn’t his to control,
She needs to find it within herself.
Maybe someday she can share it with someone,
But for now, she can do this, on her own.
