The day started like most have lately,

Dark and gray, like my broken heart.

There's been a hole there since you

took your love away, and it only grows.

We said hurtful things that day

and the break was harsh, with many

tears and tortured sobs of regret.

It seemed that all was lost, that paradise

was a place I could only dream of

but never again visit.

The days and weeks passed, yet the

lingering ache wouldn't subside, but

only grew stronger and deeper.

Resigned to an empty life without you

I struggled to find any reason to go on or

even to live, my despair was so complete.

And then, in the darkest night of my life

it came.

A word, a simple word from you that

opened the door, that offered a chance

to escape the darkness of my isolation.

There was no promise, nothing certain

that anything could be promised,

and yet it filled the hole in my heart

and sealed it closed forever.

It was from you and you meant it,

and the world, our world, would

never be the same.

It lifted my heart and gave me hope,

hope that tomorrow would be different.

hope that the bright sunshine would

once again flood my heart with joy.

Tonight I sleep contentedly, yet anxiously,

looking forward to tomorrow, when a new

day will dawn, one that I will be awaiting with open arms.
