Brief Brushes

who can know my true self?

I saw you again today

but only from a distance.

My heart yearned for you

to turn and really see me--

not the girl I was

or the one I now show to the world.

I wanted you to see my true self,

to recognize her

because you always knew she was there inside me

longing for someone

to breathe life into her.

Truth be told,

my body belongs to my true self

and to the man who recognizes her.

The song that floats from my heart

calls to him...

to you...

without reservation,

without strings,

without limit.

But it seems we are destined to meet

only in brief brushes.

So what will become

of that girl?
