Concealed Souls

We readily took off our clothes
And opened our minds
To explore ourselves and each other
In the Lush land of non-existence
Hovering in a wasted no-man’s land
Between substance and delusion

What is authentic here?
Connections seemingly in tandem
Waiver badly when questioned or reminded
That the words are unreal
Concealing the souls beneath the facades
Our heated skins did not require fabric
As the words crossed screens and kept us warm
Failing to notice the dissembled truth
That skins were cooling and hearts never really open
Facades like the avatars, sadly lacking

When reality’s calls woke up the senses
They were whispers in the cooled air
Reminders to shake out the wishes and
Shrug off the disappointments
Touch the skin ~ it has thickened this time
The heart is bruised but will heal
Though still wistfully wishing
It was all real.
