Desperate Aching

Desperate Aching

Online love affairs are hard as hell
Rain gently drumming
On my black nylon cocoon,
My eyes, my mind,
Seeing only vague shadows
Cast by the dull grey sliver
Of what's left of the moon.
The night sounds are loud:
Crickets, bullfrogs and
Something unknown,
But memories of you
Drown out natures lullaby.
Our songs tortuously
Loop through my memory,
And your image dances
Hauntingly before me.
Though eyelids clamp tight,
This hell we've created that
Incarcerates my entire being,
Forces me to replay our story
Over and over and over.
How can love be so cruel as to
Lead us into this nightmare?!
Held in adjacent cells,
Allowed to touch by words alone,
The jailer laughs and goads
As our souls ache for more.
Sadly, I turn to my cell mate
And force a smile her way.

Written in my tent early one morning, during a rain storm.
