I Knew You Would Come

I now have all that I need…
I remember the very first time we spoke,
The way my heart just beat like a drum.
Though I was married I couldn't help those feelings inside,
Within moments I knew you were the one.

I've had my eyes open for all my life long,
Searching and praying for my perfect complement.
The bar was so high it reached right to the heavens,
I knew only an angel could make me content.

But then you showed up, walked into my life,
I swear, I thought you were a mirage.
The closest thing to perfection that I'd ever seen,
Was the 69 ‘Stang housed inside my garage.

With subdued optimism, I dared to inquire,
Could this woman be more than just a dream?
I began to pursue, with all of my might,
To see if you were as genuine as you had seemed.

And as I went deeper, and yet deeper still,
I found that you were authentic and true.
A genuine heart, filled with much love and grace,
I couldn't help but fall madly in love with you.

You said it first, within very few weeks,
While I was quite slow, I admit on my part.
But sure enough, in just 38 days,
I said, “I love you,” and it was straight from my heart!

I was pretty confused, this one-woman man,
For I was attached to somebody else.
I could not deny the deficiencies at home,
But when with you my heart would just melt.

Now fast forward with me, some 26 months,
This love has grown stronger with each passing day.
I’ve committed to you, you’re beyond my wildest dreams,
I still pinch myself to make sure I’m awake.

I wait impatiently for you, for a time not far off,
I count the days until our “one day” is here.
As I close my eyes, I can see you and me,
Our perfect love casting out all our fears.

They open again and I’m staring right at you,
Your beautiful green eyes take my breath away.
I knew you would come, if I dreamed long enough,
Oh my love, you’re the one for whom I prayed.
