In Sickness and in Health

A commitment to my lover...
My baby girl is sick
But her Daddy's far away
And there's no one to attend to
My precious woman on this sad day

My concern has taken over
It’s so hard to gauge what’s true
She never wants to be a bother
But is it serious or just the flu?

Her body is racked with fever
A cold and body aches
Her aloneness tears up my heart
I swear it's about to break

I so long to attend to
Every single need she owns
Both in health and in sickness
In laughter or wretched groans

I want to pick her up
And carry her to my bed
To make her chicken soup
Damp wipe the fever from her head

I want to fill her heart with sweet words
Make sure she knows she's not alone
That she's my priority in this life
That she is the only true love I've ever known

That she’ll no longer go through this life
And wonder if someone really cares
Because I'll be with her every moment
When she awakes she'll see me sitting there

Yes, the season of her aloneness
Has been chased away for good
She has a man who loves her dearly
So much it can't be understood

One day this all will happen
When I'll refuse to leave her side
I'll be there on her toughest mornings
And through all her darkest nights

And when her health returns
She'll call me hero and best friend
And I'll smile and say, "I love you
And all my days with you I'll spend!"
