Love Actually

Some thoughts about love.
After a great deal of thought
I have come to a conclusion
Love is sometimes reality
And it is sometimes illusion.

You have no idea
As you share every thought
That it is all confusion
And can come to naught.

Your heart is full
Your soul is bared
With every emotion
And insecurity shared.

You tremble at his mere approach
You hold your lover near
You melt into his arms
He banishes your fear.

But love is never even
And things run their course.
One always loves more
To the other’s remorse.

The time for reality comes
When questions are given voice
Differences to be faced
You both have no choice.

This is a deep connection
But it cannot sustain
A lifetime full of love
Only friendship can remain.

I have been on both sides
Of this lovers’ equation
I have more often loved more
And been met with evasion.

Being the object of more love
Gives me no pleasure.
I know it is unfair
To be someone’s treasure.
When you are cared for
But it’s him you adore
There is no way to force him
To love you more.

That special person exists.
I hold on to the dream
Of a perfect love that lasts
True and honest, no scheme
No pretense, no illusion
Just understanding and love
Leaving behind all confusion.

Open hearts and minds above
Reproach and beyond doubt
A love that is forever
Until the candle goes out.
