The Love Story that Died

Today was the day
I thought
Our life was going to start,
The chapter we had waited
All of our lives for.
He calmed my fears
And all those doubts,
He gave me something to believe in.
Pulling me close
Assuring me, he would love me
For the rest of our lives.

Every night, I fell asleep
Warmed by his love.
Every morning, I counted the days
For the start of our lives

The disbelief I felt
When I found out
That he was not the
Honourable man
I believed him to be,
The tears that fell
Saltiness on my lips as
My heart wept
And is still softly weeping.

Today I awoke,
Dejected and shattered
That I would never feel
His arms around me,
His kisses on my skin,
Our love envelop us.
Distressed that he is only
An apparition
That now appears
When I hear songs we shared
Or during the darkness of night
Where, In my dreams
I get to love him.
