In the quiet of the night
Your voice on the phone,
Is the last thing I hear
And then I am alone.
I know goodnight will come
As we talk about our day,
I have grown to love you so much
Please tell me you'll stay.
I had no clue I'd fall for you
But I fell in love so deep,
Finally I hang up the phone
Wishing together we could sleep.
Once I am alone I realize
The silence is so deafening,
You became the music in my life
I didn't even notice it happening.
The silence now surrounds me
I close my eyes and I think of you.
Was it this silent before we met?
If so how'd I make it through?
When I am afraid I again turn to you
The silence you quickly shatter,
You know just how to ease me
Together we make beautiful chatter.
Eventually we both have to sleep
So another good night I say,
Then it is just me and the silence
Some people live this way.
The silence caves in like a wall
Nearly impossible to ignore,
I try to shut it out of my mind
But you can't just shut the door.
I can feel the silence surround me
That is when my mind begins to reel,
Silence exposes the holes in our armor
It forces things we don't want to feel.
The fears we suppress and hide so deep
They stay hidden in the chaos of the day,
But in the silence of night time hours
Into our minds it always finds its way.
I almost can not remember
What it sounded like before you,
I am swallowed by the silence
I must find a way to get through.
In the silence my fear creeps in
I can feel it strangling my soul,
Afraid of losing my personal battle
I am afraid of losing control.
You brought such beautiful noise
Into the silence parts of my day,
I close my eyes and hear your voice
Like a favorite song that I play.
They often say that silence is golden
Maybe some day that will be true,
But for now when the fear takes hold
All I want in this world is you.
