The tin cup, a love poem

If I held a worn old tin cup

And I sat under an apple tree

I might ask you for

Something differently.

Not regular change

But tokens of love.

As my cup is now empty.

The cup is worn

And has never been full.

As I sit and hope

That someone will

Drop a token

Into my tin cup.

So I will not

Be lonely anymore.

I shall thank you,

My heart will soar.

A smile will adorn

My sweet face

And hope will

Reign once more.
