The Yellow Mountains

We stood in the Yellow Mountains where
Clouds covered the mountain cliffs and trees.
Here, existence ceased to be,
Except for her and I.

Standing underneath a Ginko tree,
Clouds sheltered us overhead.
Our faces grazed one another,
Lips pressed lightly against each other.

She held the back of my head with her delicate hand, and
Tilting her face up, she placed sweet kisses on my lips.
I placed my hand on her hip and held her tenderly,
Branches cracking as I took a small step forward.

After a moment, she leaned back and knelt just above the ground,
Picking up a fallen Ginko leaf.
She slowly stood up, staring at the leaf with intrigue and curiosity.
Looking to me, she asked if I loved her.

Holding the sides of her face, I placed a gentle lingering kiss on each velvety cheek.
Pulling back, I softly said, “I love you,” mesmerized by her tender brown eyes.
She twirled the Ginko leaf between her fingers and smiled softly
Before letting it fall to the ground.

I placed my lips softly on hers for a brief moment.
My face gently rested against hers
As our hands found each other, fingers intertwining.
And together we stood alone, the birds singing unknown hymns overhead.
