To have love, to have been loved
To want and to be wanted
Is this what it is to have lived?
Is this who I am, or am I without a path?
A nomad in this world, a wanderer, a Ronin
Are not the best destinations found without a map?
To follow free will, a whim, or a myth
Does knowing what to want defeat all purpose?
It is the journey I need, not the trophy awaiting
Am I in this alone? 7 billion others wonder the same
Is it love above all? Or is it adventure I seek?
A nice story to tell at war with someone to hold
Or can a treaty be signed, both parties combined?
Love is adventurous, who knows where it leads?
Surely love can be true, rather than built on a set
What I want is not for others, what I want is for me
Do I fight for my heart, or give way to the strong?
A dry field of grass can chase a lush, retreating tree line
Can I thrive on what I have; can I prosper in my field?
I want to be at the front line, I want to have what I want
Some live for others, and some live through
One mustn't call it wrong, for they know what they do
Every soul is unique, you want what you want
The guidelines for life are written as indecipherable texts
You can piece together icons, or you can write your own book
Can I learn from others, their mistakes and success?
Can I have what they have; if they have what I want?
I see mimics all around, is it as good as it seems
Is this mimicry a red herring, an obstacle to overcome?
I must tread wearily as I follow my heart
Life is not paved, there’s no singular route
There are both roads most travelled, and there are uncharted lands
I may not know what it is to have lived, but I know how to go
I want a smile on my face; I want to be older than old
But more than all that’s been said, I want someone to hold
