White Knight

Even vagrants live by some golden rule
That love makes one act like a fool
Or that money isn't what makes the man

I'm just a poor boy wearing a poetic heart
On weathered sleeves unraveling apart
And I just don't seem to give a damn

My love for you is like no other
What you certainly won't get from any ol' lover
It's the kind you read about in fables

I am your white knight with greying hair
Saddling up on a restless mare
Biding my time here in the stables

See, I've got nothing but time on my side
As we all brave every crashing tide
Thrown at us by this tumultuous sea called Life

A day might come when I confess my love
That you're the one I've been dreaming of
And I may ask you to become my wife

If by then you are truly disenchanted
With the mantras that men have chanted
Having resigned yourself from the loving art

Remember I'm only a few doors away
Where you are certainly welcome to stay
Even though you already occupy my heart

Until then I'll try to keep myself busy
Write down my thoughts till I am dizzy
Maybe even attempt a love song or two

Doesn't take much for me to get distracted
Who would have ever known by the way I've acted
That I am completely smitten with you?
