You Were There

Though one angel was lost, another one remained.
On the darkest day, a day of uncertainty and confusion like no other, I was lost, no direction to be found. I was flying blind, no instrument to guide my way,
no beacon to help me pass the rocks thrown in my path.

I was grasping for answers, trying to find my lost angel.
She lost her wings, flying too close to the sun,
too close to the danger, too far from my reach,
too far from my arms, flying into her destiny.
There were two angels, sent to keep me away
from my demons, my shortcomings, myself.
They had saved me once upon a time,
and they remained with me, as guides.
I owed them everything, all that and more.
They watched over me, keeping me safe,
keeping me from peril, from my own fears,
from all that is dark and unholy.
As I flailed against the rocks, like a
ship run aground, I looked to find you,
looked to see your face, to see your
mighty wings spread as if to welcome me home.
And suddenly you were there, to right my ship,
to take the rudder, to steer me clear.
You shone the bright light, clearing the fog
and lighting the way to the shining sun.
You showed me comfort, answered my prayers,
brought me back to the place we call home.
You told me how your sister was lost,
but showed you the way to find me.
Now you alone watch over me,
a solitary angel, kind and fair.
I have no fears, no worries, no nightmares,
for in my darkest hour you were there.
