WEBP files

It seems like more and more sexy images and gifs are turning out to be WEBP files. Not being a techie, I'm not sure what those are all about, but is there any way to convert them to gif or jpeg format? Or, alternatively, a way to upload them to Lush as a WEBP file?

I use EZgif.com to convert them. They time out after a short period, so you can download the gif or jpeg and save/upload it elsewhere if you want to reuse it.

Smart! I figured webp pix were hopelessly embedded into the page.

More software is adding support for webp but since this is an in-house job rather than off-the-rack we will have to wait for the devs to get it on their very long (I suspect) list.

I was pasting it into chat, and got frustrated that another beautiful picture was webp. So, I changed it to gif to see if it worked. It did. Try it instead. 😘 Right-click in the browser, I saved it... as png. Go figure.

The old-school Paint app opens .webp files. Then File, Save As, save as .jpg, .png, etc.

Thanks, but I did try that, but it didn't work on the one I was trying to save. Not sure why, as it did not have any movement/gif features. It had worked to save as jpg in the past.

GIMP is a free Photoshop alternative. Very easy to open a webp file in GIMP, then save as a gif. The drawback is that the gif file is usually much larger (smaller file sizes are the whole point of webp.) I'm self-taught with all of this, but, unless it's a REALLY huge file, I can usually get it down to a reasonable size, although I might have to edit out a lot of frames to do it. Always a trade-off.

I agree with the comment about GIMP.. just be sure to read the 'save as' dialog if you're wanting an animated GIF. As far as animated GIF filesizes, there are online optimizers which can help.

Unfortunately, those large files mean I sometimes have to shorten the GIFs, which was a pain to do one by one, especially with hundreds of frames. Managed to write a GIMP Python-fu script to do it automatically, which is much simpler. Also wrote one that deletes every other frame- the motion gets a bit worse, and you have to fiddle with the delay time, but you gotta do what you gotta do....

I think the site supports webp's now, but could be wrong. I know I have a few uploaded that seem to work fine.
